DOING DIFFERENT

Now to our discussion for this weekend! We will be discussing β€œDOING DIFFERENT”. Sadly, these days we are often scared of doing things differently than not. We are worried things would go wrong and maybe this different doings will reveal a side of us we don’t want to show the world! But here’s the question!

”If you decide to do something differently today, what will it be?”

OR

”What is one thing you could have done differently but choose not to?”

Our hangout is still in mind and plans are still forming to make it a reality. Check out our last post to stay updated. Here’s a link to the post. Thanks to everyone that has contributed and is contributing towards the success of this hangout. Keep supporting the plans as we are making good progress.

Remember, the aim of the hangout is to bring people together, particularly Nigerians. So make sure you have this in mind when responding to the questions. And feel free to add even more to it if you have more.

If you know you have a topic you would want us to discuss about, please feel free to suggest them to us. All you have to do is suggest the topic in the comment and tag @sam.hangout to it.

Hello my people season greetings to you all , please I have January in mind,

okay so for me about been different?...

discover that most Nigerian school only offer theories if I'm to establish schools my school will have all the sections offering real time practical on all subjects taught, so the student get to familiarize themselves with the basic first hand knowledge of what they are been taught ...

0.00003907 BEE

This is thoughtful! The only institutions I know that offer more practicals are polytechnics, so surely, we need this expansion. Happy weekend, dear.

0E-8 BEE
(edited)

yeah basically I mean like our secondary schools,

0E-8 BEE

This is a good thought but the ministry of education must be aware

0E-8 BEE

Na who go the them remain

0.00000498 BEE

This is so thoughtful.
kid learn and inculcate knowledge faster by watching, this ideas would help kids learn with so much ease.
I'm 100% in support of this idea

0E-8 BEE

Supporters club..

Write a formal letter, go submit it to Tinubu

Action!!!.. lol

0E-8 BEE

That's a beautiful one I must say. Most of the things taught in our schools are just theories....

0E-8 BEE

Thank you 😊

0E-8 BEE

Happy weekend, guys!πŸŽ‰
It is true that we bother so much about public opinion when we want to take a decision that doesn't follow the traditional path, but for me, I'm learning to outgrow that, and so far, so good!

So, if I am to make a decision to do differently today, I would go back to school for another professional course in the medical field instead of taking the most common path of heading straight into the labour market to work as a healthcare provider. I say this as someone who has gained clarity on where she wants to be in the next couple of years, with a well laid plan. I do not care about spending another 6 years as a student, and neither do I care about what people would say about going back to school in a country like ours. It's a decision that will set me up for a lifetime and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get there while blocking out the noise.
@treasuree @soma18 @marsdave what would you do differently today?

0E-8 BEE

Not considering public opinion is something I'm also learning to outgrow, it's almost impossible in our society, we are surrounded by imperfect people judging others, even when you are doing what's right , they have what to say about it.

Since they ain't paying my bills, I don't care about their opinion.

Education never ends, last year I would have said the same thing, I just outgrew that thought and decided to obtain a masters degree instead.

0E-8 BEE

Exactly. The only solution is to filter the noise and do your thing because if you keep considering their opinions, you will never do what your heart pleases. I'm glad you've also gained clarity on your next possible action. All the best to you.

0E-8 BEE
(edited)

Funny enough, a friend of mine posted something in this regard yesterday or so. To paraphrase, he said β€œWhen you are going after a goal, don't listen to the people closest to you. Listen to the people closest to your goals.” It's kind of ironic or improper because we're supposed to listen to those closest to us right? Or maybe that's what the system taught us.

Concerning your point on public opinion, it's high time many of us stopped listening to that. Yes, some opinions could be helpful and we need to hear them, but how many are there in the pool of noise and unsolicited, unwanted public opinions? So, when are you planning to go back and do that medical course? Let me know so that I too can follow you and chase that dream too.πŸ˜πŸ˜€

0E-8 BEE

That's a powerful statement. I totally agree with the message it passes. Thankfully, I no longer pay attention to everyone who thinks they can have a say in my life's decisions, enough to make me put everything to a halt. They will be fine.
Thanks for sharing that quote. I'll keep it in mind, always.

Look at this Oga, am I not supposed to be the one following you?πŸ˜…

0E-8 BEE

That's a very motivating statement, lately I have come to accept the fact that I have to follow those who believe in me and not those who stay close but don't believe in me and this is similar to your friends quote.

Some public opinion might be worth listening to, but some needs to be trashed too , just learn to filter informations.

0E-8 BEE

You still wanna do follow follow πŸ˜‚

For a fact, your friend is right because the closest people to you might not be sharing same goals as you so they can't reason with you in same direction to achieve that goal

0E-8 BEE

Hey brother: welcome to this week’s hangout session..

0E-8 BEE

First off, I must say I admire your courage.
A decision like that, especially in a country like ours, omo. You gats really fvkoff what anybody might say or think... because six years may look long, but it's definitely not longer than a lifetime.

0E-8 BEE

Exactly! Thank you so much, my dear. Definitely not listening to the noise.

0E-8 BEE

500HBD fine for this f word... Payment to my wallet pls

0E-8 BEE

It's quite sad that a lot of people fall victim of that. You know, heading into a course because every other being is doing it as well. Simply following the crowd.
I have a friend currently doing that and I don't even have the least idea on how to draw her back and make her see reasons to give this choice of hers a second thought.

You're indeed daring to do something different, the sidetalks and every other factors regardless. Go for it gurllllllllll! πŸ˜‰

0E-8 BEE

It's really sad. My case is not one of doing a course because everyone was doing it, though. I did it because I liked it and because it would be easier for me to get a job in this country. But over time, I've realized that the places we ought to be may not always be the ones that we choose or think is right. So, I'm thankful for that clarity.

I think you should keep chatting with your friend, take a day off to just advise her on it. If she doesn't listen, then there's nothing you can do. Thanks for the encouragement, Soma.

0E-8 BEE

Hey Soma πŸ₯°

Your friend have made her decision, your opinion is like the public opinion we are talking about here πŸ˜…, just joking, but don't stress yourself too much convincing her, leave her to follow the crowd πŸ˜…, she would still come back to you.

Oya, don't mind me ooh, I know someone that decided to accept a course that I didn't like and my reasons for discouraging her was obvious, I also tried convincing her, but she was more focused on what people would say and sitting for another jamb, those things don't matter to me fr and that's the major reason young teenagers become victims of regrets.
I allowed her and guess what? She's now seeing the reality of what I told her.

I have tried as much as I can to advise young people to stop the unnecessary rush to go to uni, keep fighting for that dream, don't let pressure make you study what you would end up regretting in the future.
This is Nigeria, there are many things to consider before choosing a career.

0E-8 BEE

Why not go back and school again and get what u want? I want thought of this but marriage, kids, responsibility wouldn't allow me take action

0E-8 BEE

It takes a very very very strong will and determination to be able to that actually cos the stress of keeping a home ehn is not small

0E-8 BEE

Oh, dear. I'm already working toward it. Hopefully, it comes to fruition.πŸ₯°
I totally understand that responsibilities won't let you return, but I hope you find even better opportunities with what you have.❀️

0E-8 BEE

You're absolutely right and I salute your courage on a decision like this if you have the opportunity. It's a mistake most of us have made and I'm a practical example to this when I picked science class over art class in secondary school.

0E-8 BEE

Thank you so much, Kenny. As we grow older, we become wiser, and I'm grateful for that.

0E-8 BEE

Do the calms now. Time still dey lol

0E-8 BEE

Happy Weekend Everyone πŸ₯°

0E-8 BEE

0E-8 BEE

Happy weekend everyone.

0E-8 BEE

Happy Weekend Beauty 😊

0E-8 BEE

Thank you my dear I'm

0E-8 BEE

Hello πŸ‘‹
Happy weekend to you too..how you doing

0E-8 BEE

Your welcome dear I am doing well and you?

0E-8 BEE

There's actually something I could have done differently, but then, I choose not to.

And that will be being self-centered and focusing only on myself.

The thing is I once went through a long term illness that kind of made me withdraw, during those period I learnt a while lot of things about humans and all. I also lost myself, yea. There are a lot of things I stopped doing, and a lot of things stop having meaning to me.

So, after surviving such, I could have choose to do my things differently, I can't deny that the illness did affect me an my relationship with people, but I choose not to allow it take over me. If it had, no one would have blamed me. Many people would have thought it was caused by, maybe the trauma and all I experienced.

But I chose not to let that experience stop me from being caring and looking out for others. I try my possible best to show up for people, help when I could and even run certain charity deeds.

So, what I did differently was the refusal to become hardened and bitter. Rather, I choose to be more caring, compassionate and loving.

So, that's doing different for me.
❀️

Thanks a lot for the tag @yechee

@afrikens
@chefqueen
@careergirl
@soma18

Come, let's hear from y'all 😁

0E-8 BEE

Awwwwwwn πŸ₯°πŸ₯°.. that's my lil bro 🌹.

I understand what you mean. Every other person could have gone through such and come out of it caring only about his or herself and of course, nobody would ever blame such.

But you came out better; compassionate, loving and selfless and that is indeed a departure from the norm. Equally makes you special 😜🀭

0E-8 BEE
(edited)

Awwwn, thanks Sissy ❀️ ❀️ ❀️

You always have your way with words πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί, yaf made me speechless now πŸ˜”.

Obviously, yaf learnt a lot from me 😜.

Yea, it was one that could have made any other person heartless, withdrawn and all. But then, here you have me πŸ•ΊπŸ•ΊπŸ•Ί

0E-8 BEE

Your little bro indeed.

0E-8 BEE

That's great attitude amidst challenges

0E-8 BEE

Yes...
Thanks Mama ☺️

0E-8 BEE

It takes alot to be compassionate and loving to people after an experience like this and I'm proud of you for being a bigger person and a good person.

I love the attitude and I hope I learn from this too, because I'm not good at letting go of bad experiences, especially from people I expect alot from.

I'm so grateful to God that you survived the illness and conquered Dave πŸ₯°πŸŽ‰

0E-8 BEE

It wasn't that easy. But it was a good choice to make.
Either let the the experience turn me into a cold person or a more compassionate one, it was my decision to make at the of the day.

I would love if you would too, humans will always be humans. You shouldn't expect too much from them. So, you just be you.

Thanks a lot dear, and I very well appreciate your thoughtfulness.
❀️

0E-8 BEE

This is so great to read Millie. It shows how best you are at being in control of life and not life or situations controlling you. The way you did not allow that situation redefine who you are really speaks amazing things about you even with no spoken words. You lived differently indeed ❀️πŸ₯°

0E-8 BEE

You enhπŸ₯ΊπŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί
See how you've made me emotional now πŸ˜”.

And yea, I've met with ppl and got to know their experience was what made them what they are today-coldhearted. And it's understandable, just that the choice is always ours to make. Experiences can shape, but we get to decide/choose what it shapes us into.

0E-8 BEE

Not letting poor experiences shape your character towards others tells a lot about you. It's beautiful and I hope you don't stop being this person.❀️

0E-8 BEE

Smiles.....yea❀️

Hopefully, I won't.

Thanks a lot 😊❀️

0E-8 BEE

I just dey come ooo. Let me think well sha

0E-8 BEE

No problem...take your time sissy πŸ™‚

0E-8 BEE

Some situations will open ones eyes to what one don not believe can happen but sometimes it doesn't have to change us, it just bring to our notice that things like that is in existence, people are like this and that. We should never stop the heart of kindness no matter what we go through but me I used to think that this kindness heart is God gift ,bcos I have tried many times in the past too to let go of kind heart but I couldn't, I just couldn't control my kind heart, and I will see someone else that doesn't even have kindness in his dictionary, how will be like ,how does he do it ? I think its Gift jare.

0E-8 BEE

Smiles, well it's definitely a gift. Our prayer would be not to encounter a thing that would make us stop being the good and kind hearted person that we are.

Kindness is meant to be rare and that's why we have very few ppl in our world that's really kind.

Happy weekend

Yes

Me I'm cool, so I'm blessed, because I'm alive.πŸ™‚

0E-8 BEE

What is one thing I could have done differently but chose not to?

...hmm,I had to think deeply but yah, I don't need to think far.
One thing I could have done differently but chose not to is over reacting in anger when I felt disappointed by people I had expectations on. Yea, recently, people kept testing my patience through their actions. My old me could have raised my voice and speak harshly out of frustration but I choose to be calm regardless. I think I am growing better , I hv come to realize that everyone can't meet up with my expectations and it's fine. Life is a gradual process..

0E-8 BEE

And things done in anger are irreversible. That's a great way to live differently

0E-8 BEE

Aunty you no dey sleep ni

0E-8 BEE

Very irreversibleπŸ‘Œ

0E-8 BEE

Great. Stop expecting the best of people, atleast leave a room for a couple of disappointments. That way you won’t think too deep about it…

0E-8 BEE

I hear u sir

0E-8 BEE

It is good ooo. Everyone can't meet up with one's expectations. We should learn to expect disappointment

0E-8 BEE

Sure

0E-8 BEE

Happy weekend guys!

0E-8 BEE

Where’s @mikechrist.

0E-8 BEE

Where's me, did you ask if me ?

0E-8 BEE

Sometimes I stil wonder why I never choose the medicine part, I still wonder today if I would have become a great surgeon... Anyways I will never know.

Not that I regret my career path though but remembering the decision was not entirely up to me makes me wish I had choosen the part.

0E-8 BEE
(edited)

If there's something i could have done differently but choose not to,
That will be marrying early. My friends and family used to be in surprise that I'm still with my sis all this years, they said they would have gotten married and her body go come down if they are in my shoe,my sister is very strict and over protective someone that all my other siblings fear to live with her coupled with the fact that she is nursing a sickness,if you've lived to take care of a suck person, you will understand that situation I'm in. Cos, sometimes she behaved to people out of the pains she is going through, you must not say no to anything she says, she will feel ,it's bcos she is sick and you are the one taking care of her, that why you are behaving rude, she sometimes will get angry that she would have fo e it perfectly thank you did it if not if her condition, you know those words, she will con still add crying, if you don experience this situation you will understand me, sometimes I will want to go crazy, you know, you believe you are doing even more than your energy but someone you doing it for said, you didn't do anything. Still happened last month, that her husband was forced to tell me to go bring my boyfriend, that he will do weeding for us, that he doesn't like how I'm being treated, I just laughed that he shouldn't worry. Many choose marriage as a escape route in that situation, many do so. I wanted to fall victim at a time the depression was high but I'm glad I'm someone that doesn't rush decisions . I think about it and I realized I will be doing more harm to myself, marriage is a lifetime thing, I wouldn't want my situation taking me where I won't like. I will never use marriage as a escape route like many girls out there does.

@afrikens @van.illa @goldenproject
Come and drop yours oo

0E-8 BEE

Using marriage as an escape route is extremely risky, marry when you are ready and with the right person would give you peace, don't let her attitude push you into a lifetime regret.

I hope your sister recovers soon, most times sickness make people act out of character, just keep taking care of her, behind that mean attitude is someone who just want to live healthy. Immediately she recovers she would be a nice sister.

You will be alright β™₯️

0E-8 BEE

Thank you so much for your kind words. It's draining but I'm trying hard to be okay

0E-8 BEE

QUEEN I read every line of this with patience and every bit of an emotional string in me. You're indeed a beautiful soul and even if you think you are not appreciated directly, trust me that the blood bond between you two appreciates your efforts and kindness deeply.

And I'm glad you didn't rush into a lifetime decision because of that situation. It might have ended up badly

0E-8 BEE

Thank you so much sis.yes, marriage should never be an escape route, yes,it might have been bad. Thanks you for your kind words.

Happy Sunday my kontri people ...how una dey...
I went for early morning service today and in the church, our priest reminded us to be careful with our tongue. He says we should be conscious of what comes out from our mouth that words are powerful . He also said instead of speaking negative words, we should use our tongue to confess positive about our lives.

@quduus1 @van.illa @afrikens , una go church today ?

0E-8 BEE

Hey mama… hiii

0E-8 BEE

Hmmmm TONGUE. When you even read James 3, one would understand this fact that ones tongue is powerful enough to destroy or build one's life.

I went o though not my church
