DOING DIFFERENT

Now to our discussion for this weekend! We will be discussing “DOING DIFFERENT”. Sadly, these days we are often scared of doing things differently than not. We are worried things would go wrong and maybe this different doings will reveal a side of us we don’t want to show the world! But here’s the question!

”If you decide to do something differently today, what will it be?”

OR

”What is one thing you could have done differently but choose not to?”

Our hangout is still in mind and plans are still forming to make it a reality. Check out our last post to stay updated. Here’s a link to the post. Thanks to everyone that has contributed and is contributing towards the success of this hangout. Keep supporting the plans as we are making good progress.

Remember, the aim of the hangout is to bring people together, particularly Nigerians. So make sure you have this in mind when responding to the questions. And feel free to add even more to it if you have more.

If you know you have a topic you would want us to discuss about, please feel free to suggest them to us. All you have to do is suggest the topic in the comment and tag @sam.hangout to it.

Okay Let's Gist!!!

Be as simple and sincere with the discussion, hehehe.

Hello my people season greetings to you all , please I have January in mind,

okay so for me about been different?...

discover that most Nigerian school only offer theories if I'm to establish schools my school will have all the sections offering real time practical on all subjects taught, so the student get to familiarize themselves with the basic first hand knowledge of what they are been taught ...

0.00004140 BEE

This is thoughtful! The only institutions I know that offer more practicals are polytechnics, so surely, we need this expansion. Happy weekend, dear.

This is a good thought but the ministry of education must be aware

kid learn and inculcate knowledge faster by watching, this ideas would help kids learn with so much ease.
I'm 100% in support of this idea

That's a beautiful one I must say. Most of the things taught in our schools are just theories....

Good evening Mama....

Happy weekend, guys!🎉
It is true that we bother so much about public opinion when we want to take a decision that doesn't follow the traditional path, but for me, I'm learning to outgrow that, and so far, so good!

So, if I am to make a decision to do differently today, I would go back to school for another professional course in the medical field instead of taking the most common path of heading straight into the labour market to work as a healthcare provider. I say this as someone who has gained clarity on where she wants to be in the next couple of years, with a well laid plan. I do not care about spending another 6 years as a student, and neither do I care about what people would say about going back to school in a country like ours. It's a decision that will set me up for a lifetime and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get there while blocking out the noise.
@treasuree @soma18 @marsdave what would you do differently today?

0.00000000 BEE

Not considering public opinion is something I'm also learning to outgrow, it's almost impossible in our society, we are surrounded by imperfect people judging others, even when you are doing what's right , they have what to say about it.

Since they ain't paying my bills, I don't care about their opinion.

Education never ends, last year I would have said the same thing, I just outgrew that thought and decided to obtain a masters degree instead.

Funny enough, a friend of mine posted something in this regard yesterday or so. To paraphrase, he said “When you are going after a goal, don't listen to the people closest to you. Listen to the people closest to our goals.” It's kind of ironic or improper because we're supposed to listen to those closest to us right? Or maybe that's what the system taught us.

Concerning your point on public opinion, it's high time many of us stopped listening to that. Yes, some opinions could be helpful and we need to hear them, but how many are there in the pool of noise and unsolicited, unwanted public opinions? So, when are you planning to go back and do that medical course? Let me know so that I too can follow you and chase that dream too.😁😀

0.00000000 BEE

First off, I must say I admire your courage.
A decision like that, especially in a country like ours, omo. You gats really fvkoff what anybody might say or think... because six years may look long, but it's definitely not longer than a lifetime.

0.00000000 BEE

It's quite sad that a lot of people fall victim of that. You know, heading into a course because every other being is doing it as well. Simply following the crowd.
I have a friend currently doing that and I don't even have the least idea on how to draw her back and make her see reasons to give this choice of hers a second thought.

You're indeed daring to do something different, the sidetalks and every other factors regardless. Go for it gurllllllllll! 😉

0.00000000 BEE

Hello 👋
Happy weekend to you too..how you doing

0.00000000 BEE

There's actually something I could have done differently, but then, I choose not to.

And that will be being self-centered and focusing only on myself.

The thing is I once went through a long term illness that kind of made me withdraw, during those period I learnt a while lot of things about humans and all. I also lost myself, yea. There are a lot of things I stopped doing, and a lot of things stop having meaning to me.

So, after surviving such, I could have choose to do my things differently, I can't deny that the illness did affect me an my relationship with people, but I choose not to allow it take over me. If it had, no one would have blamed me. Many people would have thought it was caused by, maybe the trauma and all I experienced.

But I chose not to let that experience stop me from being caring and looking out for others. I try my possible best to show up for people, help when I could and even run certain charity deeds.

So, what I did differently was the refusal to become hardened and bitter. Rather, I choose to be more caring, compassionate and loving.

So, that's doing different for me.
