How good is your zone 2 base?
Old age seems to have crept up on me a bit. I never had a lot of spare time when working to read and learn all the finer details on training techniques. I thought I ran easy most of the time at a talking pace and just did a harder parkrun and maybe a few intervals during the week.
But after reading a bit of Philip Maffetone’s Endurance training book. I decided to try and do some training within his 180 minus your age zone 2. Previously I thought my easy zone was about 130 and it probably got even higher on hills or if I got excited.
This new calculation has my easy zone as 122 and at the start I struggled to keep my heart under that number. It does not help that my neighbourhood is full of rolling hills but I have kept at it for a couple of weeks now and I have already seen a little bit of improvement. Enough improvement to keep going with this method for a while.
This type of training seems way too slow but it is supposed to help build a better base to my fitness pyramid and leave me fresher. I suppose the faster I can run in zone 2 burning fat will definitely help in the long run.
It looks like they have been working on the base of some of the fire trails in the nature reserve too.

@thehockeyfan-at! @new.things Totally agrees with your content! so I just sent 1 IDD to your account on behalf of @new.things.
I'm always way over that! I shld try it.
I’m trying to train always at the middle area of my aerobic zone, around 140 bpm, but it’s not easy
My garmin fenix 3 calls my aerobic zone 3 123 to 140bpm

I have the same watch
You can set your areas in the Garmin connect website because the zones proposed by the watch are generic depending on your age…for instance, I know that my max bpm is 192(which is not usual for my age 😂), so, if you follow the typical rules which can be good for most of people, they may not be fully good for you
Your park run pace is fast for your age, 37k steps count today is not less. I don't see anyone getting that many steps.
There are a couple that do more but I am pretty consistent
