Today didnโt go as planned. At all.
With the kids back to school and me back at work, I had this neat little plan: two solid 5km walks and maybe an extra one in the evening. The kind of day that looks perfect in a fitness tracker graph.
Reality? A different story.
I managed one 4km walk, which admittedly felt good under the blue skies and along the canal. The wildflowers and reflections in the water were a nice reminder that movement isnโt just about steps โ itโs about presence. Then the day took a turn: an unexpected long afternoon at the ER with my daughter.
For a while, things felt very heavy. The โwhat ifsโ started circling in my head like vultures. Thankfully, the outcome wasnโt as bad as it could have been, but the journey ahead means more appointments and more uncertainty.
By the time we got home, I had just under 7,000 steps logged. Way below the dayโs ambitious goal โ but in the bigger picture, maybe enough. Because the truth is, fitness progress isnโt always about distance or speed. Sometimes, itโs just about carving out a pocket of time to breathe, walk, and ground yourself in the middle of chaos.

That canal walk sounded like exactly what you needed before the hospital curveball. Iโm relieved it wasnโt worst case, and I hope your daughter gets answers soon. Getting 6,839 steps on a day like that is still progress, because you kept moving when everything else pulled you away. Would quick 10 minute loops on appointment days help keep the rhythm without adding stress?
