From Swans to Smokestacks: A 12km Stroll Through Contrast
Most walks start with good intentions. This one started with a “let’s just go a bit farther.” Next thing I know, I’m 12km deep into a route that turned from gentle waterside stroll into a full-on visual time warp.
The first stretch felt like walking through a Bob Ross painting: glowing skies, swans gliding like they owned the canal, and water reflecting every dramatic cloud like it was auditioning for a moody indie film. Then—bam!—industrial vibes hit. Red brick, bold letters, and those unmistakable scars of factory life that somehow tell a story better than any plaque could.
And yeah, 16,500 steps later, my legs are toast—but in that earned it kind of way. If you’re ever debating whether to walk a bit farther than usual… do it. You might just find a forgotten factory and a perfect reflection waiting around the corner.

That's a bit the point actually, when you just walk rounds close to home, it's easier to quit. When you walk 10km away from home, there's always still the "have to" to get home :-) But I do always have the emergency option to call "schat, kan je me komen oppikken" :-D Never needed that yet though ;-)
