FreeCompliments Community - HSBI Rewards May Be Difficult To Continue!
Due to the recent increase in $HIVE's price, it may prove rather difficult to continue HSBI rewards for posts in the FreeCompliments Community. Each unit of HSBI is now more expensive than before; the rewards for posts, in dollar amount, do not yet reflect the increase in Hive's price. In other words, the HIVE rewards for the same votes (at a higher fiat valuation) are a little bit lower than before. This is the primary factor that may make it more difficult to continue giving out HSBI.
I'm currently trading HIVE/HBD quite a bit, and will attempt to hold out HBD to purchase more HIVE when its price drops - assuming that it drops. If this should happen, then it'll be more likely to continue the rewards. If not, then I'd only continue to rewards until we run out of HSBI.
Additionally, if the HIVE rewards from our daily posts end up similar to how we were previously running, then we'll also be in good shape to continue.
For the time being, the rewards will continue. Should we be unable to continue at any point moving forward, I'll make a formal announcement, and I'll use my own personal earnings to make whole everyone that is promised HSBI rewards.
I've considered some contingency plans: in such a situation, we may change the reward system to something more affordable (i.e. 2nd layer tokens / Ecency Points / promotions only), possibly temporarily (i.e. a few days or weeks at a time), or in the worst case scenario, permanently.

Thanks for the update! I understand the challenges that come with fluctuations in HIVE's price and appreciate your transparency in communicating this. It’s great to hear that you have contingency plans in place to ensure the continuity of rewards. If you do need to adjust the reward system in the future, I’m sure the community will appreciate the effort to keep things fair and sustainable.
You can always stop the reward for a month or two until everything goes back to normal
Has there been any consideration of developing a compliments token? That may seem counterintuitive given the name of the group, but it may make sense.
Funny, that idea was brought up nearly 2 years ago when I started this community. It's too much of a time commitment to maintain a token and adjust its tokenomics. I also wouldn't expect someone to work on this for free. Finally, and most importantly, I wanted this all to be based directly on Hive, and not add new gimmicks to the project (only existing gimmicks which I trusted lol).

It's nice to offer rewards when it's self sustaining, but there's always a limit. That's why I only post in FC maybe once a week, and let those rewards get spread around!
One of the implications of Hive SBI pending balances accruing for members until they post is that... whenever there is a HIVE pump, inactive members come out of the woodwork and start posting again, drawing down their pending balances and putting pressure on the VP, which results in Hive SBI vote values lagging the HIVE pump. (The 7 day lag in curation rewards also has an impact.) It should stabilize soon after HIVE price stabilizes (hopefully at a new 'normal' in the current range and not back in the 0.40's again.)
Indeed, I did notice that SBI's votes (in terms of HBD) were lagging a little bit so far. An expected effect, especially with the larger accounts drawing out the maximum rewards. We'll see how it goes, but for the moment, we're certainly covered.
... Unless we suddenly get influxes of several dozen posts per day!

You've done a lot with HSBI rewards, not just for the freecompliments community but for the entire Hive community, as these units are not resellable and they reinforce motivation to post and loyalty. Indeed, if you don't post, HSBIs are useless.
Thank you for this, a pause or a decrease in distribution is understandable, it wouldn't be reasonable for you to have to invest more personal money when Hive's share price is high.

They can be transferred on request, so there is a very thin resale market. (Mostly whales willing to provide a little liquidity to others.) It doesn't happen often.

I sure think we've been able to build the community to a place where even if the community does get rewarded with hsbi they will still keep posting to the community. At this point, I think we should just focus on trying to make members delegate the community a community trail. That way we'll be able to build the community and help new accounts that are not getting the attention they deserve.

At one point I was building a model for rewards for delegating to @fc-curation. The problem is that this would take a lot of testing and require a time commitment that I can't quite maintain right now. Hiring someone to do that job would also be out of my budget unless we maintain a substantial net positive influx of $HIVE (which is harder at the moment due to the HSBI rewards).
