To celebrate the start of the weekend, we went digging potatoes at Bailey Farm. This farm is only fifteen to twenty minutes away from our house, and this is our second time digging for potatoes there.
The first time was last year, and we were amazed how much better the potatoes were. Despite being fairly large size these are still young potatoes. The skin on these is very thin and scratches off by just moving potatoes from the bucket to a sack to transport.
Our daughter was super excited to go and dig potatoes. She asked for a shovel, and I showed her how to position the shovel in relation to the potatoe plant to minimize the chances of cutting the potatoes with a shovel.
In no time, she was digging those potatoes like a pro! She also learned the plant pulling technique, though that worked much better on red potatoes than on the yellow ones as a lot more yellow potatoes stayed in the ground.
This year, I was a duffus and forgot our gloves at home, so we were digging out potatoes without the protection of the gloves out of the ground. Our daughter loves digging in dirt, so she doesn't mind it at all.
My wife is not much of a potatoe digger, so she was taking pictures and providing emotional support for the digging efforts. It was a hot, sunny day with temperatures in the mid eighties, so after collecting over one hundred twenty pounds of potatoes, we have made a decision to stop by our favorite spot in Snohomish.
There were a lot of people on the farm, and a lot of them spoke Ukrainian. My wife was amazed at those ladies as they showed up with three to seven small children, and some of them were still in strollers and they were able to dig out same amount of potatoes in half the time it took us at the same time managing all the children.
I did have extensive experience with potatoes growing and digging back in Ukraine, but that was almost thirty years ago, and I must be rusty.
So we stopped by the small town restaurant right next to the potatoe field in Snohomish. I was quite tired and ordered myself wine tasting with a couple of white wines and a glass of the red wine.
We also had a really nice burrata with plums and honey and local micro-greens. Everything in the restaurant was local and farm to table, so the vegetables, fruits, cheese, and meat were impeccable.
They listed all of their local suppliers in the back of the menu. All wine was local as well as the restaurant is owned by one of the local wineries.
We also ordered some focacia bread and a pasta dish with a really nice meat sauce. To finish up, we had a lemon cake gelato and raspberry sorbet.
Our daughter was not a fan of sorbet that she wanted, so I ended up finishing up the sorbet and gelato as always. My ladies are just not very big eaters, so that creates a problem for me 😀
When we got home, I checked on the results of the Splinterlands brawl and picked my fray for the next brawl.
I like to play Wild Gold League fray despite having a diamond level deck for Wild because I get a much better win rate in Gold level fray.
After taking a break at home, I headed to PCC Market to pick up some fresh bread and organic chicken breasts and a few more items we ran out of.
Overall, it was a fun and full day!

This looks amazing and great they have a farm to table restaurant. There is a big difference in how things straight out of the ground taste compared to the shop bought stuff.
Wow so interesting you can go dig potatoes near you. I'm guessing they sell cheaper too? That's a lot of potatoes. Now I'm thinking mashed potatoes. 😆 Mmmm looks like another lovely foodie adventure with family. 😊 Happy new week ahead! 🎉 !BBH
Good to be !ALIVE
Cheers 🍷 !WINE
They might be a little cheaper, but we dig them out because we like them boiled.
We have some nice potato farms near where I live. In fact, they have a potato festival every year in one of the small towns out in the country. It's a pretty big draw for people from the area. Those look like some nice potatoes!
I am not aware of the potato festival around us, but we are really huge fans of potatoes, especially young ones boiled with with salt and butter and sometimes a touch of fresh dill on top.
I've never turned down a potato that I know of. I used to hate baked potatoes when I was a kid, but I really enjoy them now.
I think you're really fond of growing vegetables and nurturing them well. That's really good...
Anyhow the food looks delicious in the restaurant, hope you enjoyed it well!
Good day:)
Yes we really enjoyed to food at the restaurant, thank you!
