Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve again - My Actifit Report Card: February 1 2026

Hey Actifitters,

With the beautiful sunny day in the forecast for Sunday, I kinda planned on going to Kensington Metropark, it's been a while. But we woke up a bit late again, and weren't very efficient. So we had to revert to the easiest option and only went to Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve again. I was worried that it was already late in the afternoon, but we still had plenty of sunshine.

Kaia was quick to jump into action, finding the best vantage points.

And of course check the local teepees.

Like last time, I wanted to check out the water before sundown, so we quickly went down the steep snowy slopes.

Of course, Kaia wanted to continue further.

But it was almost impossible to figure out where the water actually started. The past couple of weeks have been really cold, and it's most likely very safe to walk on the ice, but I still prefer to avoid it.

So we went back up, so Kaia could as usual pose on that tree stump, it's a must to stop there!

And we kept going on the short trail on the side of the frozen lake.

Clearly many people didn't care about the 'stay off the ice' signs. Like I said, it's quite safe at the moment, even for that small lake.

During our last loop, we caught the first sunset views through the trees.

Just before exiting the forest, just like last time, deer were there. At least a dozen this time, it's not every day we saw groups this big.

And you might have guessed it, it was time for the sunset at the Boulder Garden.

Some people don't even care about the small forest and trails, they just go there for the Boulder Garden only.

It is quite unique indeed.

And that was it. Even for a backup plan, it was nice to get out of our usual forests routine. This park is really a nice little gem, beautiful in all seasons. Too bad we can't bring Le Chat with us. I thought we had left her inside, but she was waiting for us in her tiny outdoor house. I always find it very funny to see her in there.
