First relaxed cycling session... my training diary entry from October 29 2026

(edited)

(I photographed this prickly pear (opuntia) while on vacation in Greece. During the trip, I ate fruit from such a cactus twice, and both times I subsequently had to pluck many tiny, hair-like spines out of my fingers.)

Hi Actifitters,

just as I did over the past two days, I completed a core stability session yesterday, preceded by an extensive stretching routine.

Afterward, for the first time in two and a half weeks, I got back into the bike saddle. My plan was to pedal for an hour at 130 watts, but after a good 40 minutes, my heart rate remained consistently above 120 bpm, so I decided to cut the session short. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I want to keep things very low-intensity this week to avoid taking any unnecessary risks. There are plenty of examples of athletes who returned to training too soon and ended up developing myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle).

Here are a few figures regarding my cycling training:

Duration - 0:43:24
Distance - 7.18 km
Elevetaion gain - 352 m
Average speed - 9.9 km/h
Maximum speed - 62.9 km/h
Average power output - 129 watts
Maximum power output - 137 watts
Average heart rate - 114 bpm
Maximum heart rate - 128 bpm

Mission 80 (Day 123 = 87.8 kg / Goal = 80.0 kg / Initial weight = 90.0 kg / Total loss = 2.2 kg)

Another 100 grams have vanished from my hips since yesterday. We’ll see how things go over the coming weekend. It’s usually difficult to stay truly disciplined on weekends.

Today, too, I will engage in some low-intensity physical activity. Perhaps I’ll repeat yesterday’s workout to see how my heart rate responds today.

It’s great to see you gradually getting back into cycling! 🚴‍♂️ Listening to your body and avoiding unnecessary risks is the right approach.
