First hike since my injury... my training diary entry from August 30 2026

(edited)

(These three cows were standing in a small pasture right at the start of our hike. They were, so to speak, our welcoming committee.)

Hi Actifitters,

we had actually just intended to go for a long walk and enjoy the sun. Since my wife isn't currently at 100% health-wise, it was probably rather unwise of us to spontaneously take a trip to the mountains. However, she held up quite well and is feeling good today, too, which puts my mind at ease.

And so, we spent the day in the Ammergau Alps. You can see how beautiful it was there in the photos I’ll be sharing with you over the coming days.

Incidentally, this was my first hike since my tennis injury, and thus also an initial test of how I could handle the physical strain. Fortunately, I experienced only a moment of mild pain when I jumped from a stone across a small stream. Otherwise, though, everything went great.

Here are a few figures regarding the hike:

Duration - 4:31:06
Average pace - 22:54 / km
Step count - 18444
Total elevation gain - 747 m
Total descent - 721 m
Min altitude - 860 m
Max altitude - 1529 m

Oh, I almost forgot! While my wife was getting ready for the hike yesterday morning, I managed to squeeze in my pull-up workout—and actually reached my interim goal. Here are the numbers:

The previous goal according to the training plan (26):

set 1set 2set 3set 4set 5break between sets
27557120 seconds

My previous attempt (25):

set 1set 2set 3set 4set 5break between sets
27556120 seconds

Yesterdays attempt (26):

set 1set 2set 3set 4set 5break between sets
27557120 seconds

The first stage of the reverse pull-up training plan is thus complete, and the next level looks like this:

set 1set 2set 3set 4set 5break between sets
38668120 seconds

Mission 80 (Day 63 = 85.1 kg / Goal = 80.0 kg / Initial weight = 90.0 / Total loss = 4.9 kg)

I have nothing but positive things to report here as well. Today, the scale showed 85.1 kilos. Barring any unforeseen events this week, I should manage to break the 85-kilo mark.

Push-ups are on the agenda again today. I’m curious to see how I’ll handle the first workout at the new level. Garmin has also scheduled a threshold workout for me on the indoor bike.
