Push-up Performance Test & 600-Day Streak... my training diary entry from August 28 2026

(edited)

(I photographed these tree fungi in the Isar floodplains this past May. Does anyone have an idea exactly what species they might be? Are these mushrooms perhaps even edible?)

Hi Actifitters,

as the title suggests, a performance test took place yesterday to see how many close-grip push-ups I could manage in a row. I managed 21, which I’m quite happy with. The last test was on May 23rd, when I managed 11 push-ups; so, I’ve improved by 10 since then.

Nach dem Leistungstest kann ich mit meinem Trainingsplan fortfahren und mein nächstes Zwischenziel bestimmen. Es sieht wie folgt aus:

set 1set 2set 3set 4set 5break between sets
12171313max (min. 17)60 seconds

That means I have to manage at least 72 close-grip push-ups across five sets to reach this goal. At first glance, it looks anything but easy, especially since the rest periods between sets are only 60 seconds long. I’m really curious to see how long it will take me to pull it off.

After the push-up test, I got on the bike to complete an anaerobic cycling session.

15 minutes warm-up at 180 watts
6 x 0:20 at 475 watts (5 minutes recovery between each interval at 155 watts)
15 minutes cool-down at 155 watts

I was initially apprehensive about the workout, but it turned out to be nowhere near as strenuous as I had feared. Here are my numbers:

Duration - 0:57:10
Distance - 29.03 km
Elevetaion gain - 125 m
Average speed - 30.5 km/h
Maximum speed - 49.5 km/h
Average power output - 171 watts
Maximum power output - 476 watts
Average heart rate - 131 bpm
Maximum heart rate - 162 bpm
Average cadence - 98
Maximum cadence - 136
Calories - 562

What’s more, yesterday marked the 600th consecutive day I’ve walked at least 10,000 steps. This step-counting craze began in early January 2024, when I bought my first Garmin watch. It was truly the best investment ever; since the day it was delivered, my life has taken a complete turn for the healthier. On January 1, 2025, I set my step goal at 13,744, since I had averaged 13,743 steps a day in 2024—after all, I had to increase it a little. ;-) The streak that continues to this day began on January 5. For the start of the following year, I even raised the target to 15,000 steps. However, when I resumed regular strength and cycling training this year, I scaled the goal back down to 10,000 steps because I simply couldn't manage it all time-wise.

Mission 80 (Day 61 = 85.4 kg / Goal = 80.0 kg / Initial weight = 90.0 / Total loss = 4.6 kg)

After burning some calories again yesterday and being relatively disciplined with my diet, I had expected a slight drop in weight. And that is indeed the case. Another 200 grams have come off since yesterday.

Today, as happens every three days, core stability training is on the agenda again. On top of that, Garmin evidently wants to push me to my mental limit, suggesting a three-hour base workout. We’ll see if—and how—I make it through.

On top of that, I’ve had a sort of pressure in my groin area since yesterday evening. Keep your fingers crossed that I don’t develop any major problems there. If I notice during training that it is getting worse, I will stop immediately.

In my childhood, I saw such tree fungi, but since then, I have never seen them again.
