Sons, Sun, and Subzero Strolls

Today wasn’t one walk, it was a stitched-together series of strolls, like chapters in a slow-burning book. The first chapter opened before the world thawed, with frost clinging to moss and breath visible in the air. -11°C? Yep. Brutal. But that kind of cold makes you feel alive, or at least forces you to move to avoid turning into a popsicle.

I had two of my sons with me, which meant the walk had roughly 23% fitness benefit and 77% “Look, a bird!” energy. Speaking of birds, we did spot one, sitting like a wise old sentinel on a high branch, silently judging our layering choices.

As the sun climbed, we kept walking, sometimes through rural roads with tractors rumbling by, sometimes past quiet water reflecting back a blindingly beautiful sky. By late afternoon, the light had mellowed into something golden and cinematic. No gym in the world can replicate the feeling of walking under skies like that, camera in hand, with your kids tagging along.

Three walks. Dozens of photos. A solid boost in step count and soul energy. Not every day is this beautiful, but today, winter decided to flex.
