Squeezing Steps Between Errands

Saturdays are tricky. They masquerade as “rest days” but in reality? They’re a logistical obstacle course: groceries, laundry, errands, family plans, and that one random task you forgot about until today. Walking isn’t exactly priority #1. Or #2. Or #3.

But today, the sun decided to show up in full force, practically dragging me out the door. The canal path was too inviting to ignore—shimmering green water on one side, a ribbon of asphalt on the other, and the kind of blue sky that looks like it’s been Photoshopped.

I didn’t set out with any big mileage goal, but I ended up with a solid 10,000 steps and 8 kilometers. That’s the sneaky magic of walking: you tell yourself “just 10 minutes” and suddenly you’re half a city away wondering if you have snacks.

Along the way, I passed power lines standing tall against the horizon, trees leaning over like old friends offering shade, and the occasional cyclist who zipped past with that “I’m in Tour de France mode” determination.

And you know what? It felt good. Not in the “I just crushed a marathon” way, but in the “I carved out a little space for myself in a chaotic day” way. Which, honestly, might be even better.
