Hello, my lovely Hive Naija people.
It’s another beautiful weekend, and we’re excited to have you here once again. A new weekend simply means another chance to buzz the Hive blockchain, connect with one another, and simply have fun. You'll also agree with me that there’s something special about bringing everyone together to gist, share opinions, and enjoy good vibes. That is exactly the reason we will continue to meet every weekend.

Sam's Hangout is focused on promoting the togetherness of the Nigerian brethren through active engagement on the blockchain. Beyond that, it is also centered towards the wellbeing of everyone who takes part in our weekend discussions and helps keep our discord running with their presence.
Note that this account was created to make the engagement more personal and official. You can check out the INTRODUCTION POST to learn more about our purpose and vision.
Please, do not forget to follow this account so you don’t miss out on future hangout posts and updates.
Weekend engagement on Hive was originally created by @ galenkp as he founded the Weekend-Engagement community. So, I thought it would be great to create something similar that's open to all Nigerians.
Moving forward, Asides from chatting and gisting here in the comment section, feel free to post your weekend activities in the Weekend-Experiences Community.
Please, ensure you follow the rules of the community! And check the community for the recent topics
Our previous topic was ”DOUBLE ADMISSIONS"

The responses were super amazing and we had over 400 comments filled with honest opinions, jokes, harmless banter, and fresh perspectives to learn from. The energy was truly contagious. Now, let’s see if we can beat our all-time high again this weekend, shall we? Please try to encourage responses by replying to one another. Remember, engagement is what makes this hangout special.

A topic will be dropped every Friday on this account. Do well to share your thoughts, respond to someone else’s opinion, and feel free to interrogate or add more context on it respectfully. If you don’t have anything new to add, simply reply to another comment in agreement. We encourage you to tag your friends to join the discussion so we can have a fuller house.
All interactions should happen in the comment section, because that’s where the real gist goes down.

This week's hangout starts immediately this post goes live and ends on Sunday by 11:59 pm.

Now to our discussion for this weekend! We will be discussing “CHILDREN AS CONTENT”. We currently live in a digital world and to fully thrive in it, one has to adjust to what's relevant to the media. We have seen the rise of children as content creators and this is as a result of content monetization. Parents automatically bring their new born babies to the media as CONTENT and it starts off from there. But there's a thin line between paving a career for kids early on and exposing them to the risks of social media.
Here’s the question!
Our physical hangout is still on our minds and big plans are being made behind the scenes. Please check our Last Post for updates, and thank you to everyone contributing towards making it a reality.
If you have a topic you would like us to discuss in our future hangouts, please feel free to suggest it to us in the comment section and tag @sam.hangout to it.
Okay Let's Gist!!!

Don't you think we are forgetting somebody?... Well, I'm sure we are...

To make our hangout more interactive, we have decided to add two events to spice it up.
On Saturdays, we share our owanbe stories, party gists, and even pictures.
On Sundays, we reflect on the weekend and things we learnt so far, as well as share plans for the new week.
Don't forget to join us!!

There are no strict rules as regards this weekend hangout. Feel free to speak any Nigerian language you like, whether Igbo, Yoruba, pidgin, Efik, or others, as long as it can be understood.
With all that said, let the discussion begin...

Hmmmm on a YES OR NO context this will be very controversial or it is but im glad there’s the urgency to explain whatever stance which brings us to the middle ground which is analysis but not just a one faceted or one phased approach to an answer.
In our today world this issue has prominently risen to à point that it’s becoming more normal and acceptable for children to be used as content rather than deliberating the consequences. The domination or success of the internet and modern era has made any civilization looking act or trend as normal and regarded as development. Dont you think it can be controlled? I mean just accepting whatever comes into the society as a trend via the social media. Sometimes I even wish we just have the basic internet and www space without the entertainment part of it, like the instagram tiktoks and all… it’s nice but using children for contents actually has risks that outweigh the protections. We will find out..
Advantages of child content creation
Actually I won’t despise the positivity in it or the real benefits that are attached to it asides MONEY! because In our world today Thats the bone of contention for every act or thought which is wrong as it tends to take out humanity for profitability.
When kids get early access to creativity on such scale it helps a lot to build their skills and reception capabilities in the sense that they tend to start understanding metrics and know what’s more acceptable rp their audience which means they can already do a target creation for a certain aim, Thats à skill that helps them all through their life in so many real ramifications. Some kids naturally enjoy storytelling performances, teaching , music or gaming so they can always enjoy building contents around that which nin the long term they develop lotta confidence , communication skills and very strong digital literacy. Somehow it prepares them for the fast approaching digital future ahead of them.
It also helps them and the family in terms of financial opportunities if channeled properly. Momey generated could be used for education or healthcare or better still be used to secure a long term savings for the child.
One more benefit is relatability with the other kids and the sense that other children feel represented and not ignored on the internet space, in their own digital age now other kids that are maybe introverts will feel less alone, learn more and live happier so we can agree that it’s not harmful, now we should look at the negative side
What are the negative impacts?
Now this is the section that the world will keep ignoring because humanity is dead! I
Hope we do better
We all know that most children of such ages cannot really give informed consent because a child cannot understand the permanence of the internet yet and most likely they will tend to upload more number of contents that may not even be permissible to the general public or discretion just for the innocence of being a child, they also cannot predict the future consequences or even opt out safely when they finally wanna live à different life or the life they really wanted or would have loved for themselves. It would be very hard when there is already a brand built around them, oh imagine lol they won’t be able to stop because so many businesses promotions, deals and all are already tied to the content they make and the particular audience the kid was reaching need to be held at this point their image becomes public property or business property before they can decide.
Thats why most times child content creators often experience anxiety from things like performance expectations , staying relevant, getting likes and views, becoming tored before they’re even adults…
In this era misuse of contents is very rampant of which kids are not left out. I can imagine the innocent boy on the diapers pack at 15 angry seeing his naked picture smiling on a commercial level 😂😂
Now you see this is tough as the merits and demerits are crazy to balance, you can’t forfeit one for one…. But I think that children should never be the primary focus as PRODUCTS.

Wow you really gave this topic a deep thought. You really explained the tin line between opportunity and protection.
You're absolutely correct about the benefits of creativity and the advantages it impacts in a child's life. It boosts a lot. Confidence, digital literacy, opportunities, communication skills etc. but when it is done with supervision.
And just like you've stated the negatives are bigger than the positive impact which humanity has chosen to ignore. For instance the lack of the child's consent, anxiety and more and when the child is finally in it will be very difficult to choose a different path.
My own take is there should be a strict limit. Yes! Can create but they shouldn't be made products or brand for exploitation. There should be boundaries.
Sincerely your comment enlightens me. And some people out there. that we need to value childhood even in the digital world.
Thank you so much for your comment 🫂🫂. Wise of you to see the gap and think of a balance but there’s really nothing we can do about it as we are not in power

I agree with you 💯 👍
Children shouldn't be used as products to our financial freedom.
The internet never forgets. The child might grow up to see embarrassing clips on the internet that may lead to depression 🫥 😕
Thats right it even affects how they relate at school and relationships
I have been a content creator since childhood under the supervision of my parents, and I learned a lot and was well guided and supervised.
But you get exposed to things that you should at an early age. Some don't even supervise these children, and their main focus is on the money.
Hello my people. I promised last week not to miss this week's topic. So let's dive into it.
"Is the rise of child content creators having a positive or negative impact on the social media space? Explain the reason behind your stance."
Stance: child content creation should be limited because it impacts negatively on the child in a larger way.
firstly childhood is suppose to be all about learning, growth, playing and other children stuff. Not involving them in public exposure or performance.
Even as an adult your mental health will be at risk because of content creating not to talk of a child who might not have a say to any of it because after all the parent imposed it on them.
The pressure of entertaining your audience is overwhelming on some adults who are into content creating. So how will a child focus on social development and lifestyle.
I think it should be limited for real.
I agree that it should be limited too.
Have a lovely weekend dear

Well since content monetization started, we have been seeing a lot of things online, especially on Facebook where parents now use their kids to create contents , to some people this is okay. But if we look at it from the other angle, I feel these kids are being exposed to some future dangers and maybe cyber bullying.
So I feel this should be minimize.
I agree that it should be minimized because parents have gone overboard with their children in the bid to get monetized.
You are saying the truth
I take a stand that child content should be regulated because parents can be selfish sometimes when chasing the bag, forgetting that their child is more 💯 than money 💰
Most times, these young ones are deprived of their childhood, which is meant for exploring, learning, and having lots of fun. They begin to work for their parents and take responsibilities meant for adults.
This shouldn't be the case!
