Weekend engagement every weekend on Hive was originally created by @ galenkp as he founded the Weekend-Engagement community and initiative. I thought it would be nice to have a weekend engagement too in a Nigerian way for everyone that cares to be a part of it.

One Habit I have come to realise I need to outgrow, is the habit of chewing my nails, wait seriously... It might be funny to you, but to me it's something I really do struggle with like crazy, one week, you see me with clean nice nails the next weeks I have eaten it, and it not that I chew it consciously, I have noticed that it is whenever I am either stressed, tensed, in a bad mood, or I'm being absent minded, before I realise , I have already eaten the nails .
It's a really bad habit.
Now what's my solution, I result to fixing presson artificial nails, why? Because it helps me avoid chewing on my nails , but then , going to the nail tech requires money , every two - three weeks , it's actually not easy to do this.
I try to now listen to how I react to things and I avoid allowing anything that's not worth it stress me. Cos this is the best I can do for me for now.
@henryjnrr the hangout has started today and ends on Sunday night.
This is funny,π but I also realize how it has grown into a problem for you, one that needs to looked into in order for change to happen. I think the press on nails are a good solution, as it's a difficult habit to outgrow especially as an adult.
π I'm fighting with myself badly in this
@cohlson can you relate.
For real i can relate but thank God i can control it now.
You have to try too.
Ohh, you used to do that?
You have outgrown it. I haven't been able to outgrow mine and it's really difficult
View more
This is kind of funny but relatable because I know a few people who do that. Funny enough, they still do that even while grown, and it's mostly an unconscious effort.
I was meaning to say how do you manage to cope with your artificial nails that you might fix as a lady. Not knowing it was your initial way of addressing the habit.
I remember some people said they put pepper in the fingers of children to stop them from chewing the nails. I'm not saying you should try it oo.π But it's good to see you're trying to fight the habit.
Lol ya wicked, I have jumped all the other things and concerntratednon the pepper part . Chaiiii see me na.
I no blame you
View more
I can bet that the artificial nails hasn't solved anything.. you still chew it. π«π«
ππ€¦ God of mercy, really. I can't bite plastic na.
But it's like this, when I unconsciously go for my nails like that and I have my press on , that's Wen I know I'm already allowing whatever is wrong take over.
I can chew on the press on , I can only bite it
π I won't lie I laughed
I know you people will laugh this my serious matter
I've had a habit of biting my nails for a while and I'm really eager to stop. I know it can be tough to break a habit like this, but I'm willing to try sha.
I have been trying o. But it takes one bag feeling to make the discipline go aeay
Chai..babe
Oya do and outgrow it oo
I will try to o. But it's not easy
There was a time I do that too. But then, you can find your way around it, on my own end, I've stopped it, and also kept it. My nails now look like I fixed, kind of long π. And I've grown to love it, even though it's not comfortable at first.
I want my nails to grow back ,but it has been difficult, it seems the nails sef knows I used to chew them, they refused to grow. Until I fix the press on.
You are just like my younger sister, the last born. That girl has a specialty in eating her nails and would be smooth ππ even me using blades or cutter sef no do pass her own. But seriously, I hate that thing. Well, I used to do that in the past until I stopped.
Lol. God dey. I don't know how to stop self ,God will help me
When I saw your solution I was like ,maybe I should do that but then I was like money for nail tech nko? And then my work won't allow me
You can do presson sha and then on the work part , you can fix a shorter one. I do that.
Happy weekend, everyone.π₯³

Na so o
Ehhh hmmmm this topic is like writing my name on a billboard that Afriken o na you we dey talk to.
Actually, one habit I want to outgrown is assuming. Assuming on behalf of people to defend them of an act either positively or negatively. Negatively in the sense that maybe for instance, someone of which we are so close before tends to create a distance so as soon as I see that and it's not changing, I get to assume that he/she is probably fed up of the whole talks and wants their space. I don't think thats good enough from my end as I get to end up knowing about few having some stuffs going on that allowed that.
So I'm currently working on changing this habit either for positive assumption or negative assumptions. I'll want to allow them spill it out themselves and not me making the assumptions on their behalf.
I don't even know if I'm making any sense right now
you're really funny .... ofcourse you're making sense π....
I assume a lot i think we kinda like in the same shoes
We're plenty in the shoes. Thank God π
View more
Yeah you're making sense. Let me see if i get you right. For instance at a working place your friend misplaced an important file and your strict boss asked her where she kept it. she lied about it and asked the boss to confirm from you. And you on the other hand you know nothing about the situation but at that moment you helped your friend out of it by assuming she must have a reason to lie.
It may be different just trying to see if I can relate.
Yeaaah you're on track cos there are times some bad acts were done against me and I had to assume the person had a reason to do that most especially if it's a close person though I would await the right time to ask why
I stopped assuming, when I lost a course mate , I had her number, we communicated, especially during our service year, we shared jokes about life and other things, at some point I didn't hear from her , I just felt she was busy with work and life, like everyone of us.
The day I saw a picture of her dead on Facebook π€¦π, I was weak.
I kept saying, I would have reached out, just a call. I felt the guilt for weeks.
Even if we weren't so close in school, I felt I failed her.
I no longer assume, I reach out to friends and collegues monthly .
Omo something similar happened, a childhood friend of mine too, she wasn't communicating and I just assumed she was a big girl and until I was stalking her Facebook and saw she died ago two years . I was so pained . The way I shouted ehn
View more
Wow that's so sad but at least it made you quit assumptions and I hope I won't be quiting with a guilt so I'm really working on it
Huhm, that's a good one Mama.
And believe me, ya making real sense. I can very well relate to it.
Thanks Millie. I'm glad I am
This assumption thing is what I'm currently dealing with too, assuming something or someone is doing something when they are not talking to me. Actually in a way it makes relationships drift apart
EXACTLY π― EXACTLY
That last part is very very true cos in the cases where my assumptions are wrong, the person feels disappointed and that's what I hate the most, making people feel wronged or disappointed in me thinking that way
Assumptions ehn. I used to assume too but I am learning to stop that. Sometimes, assumptions might be wrong, so, it's better to let them speak out before we conclude.
Yeah mostly wrong o and I'm also trying to stop too. I'm glad I'm not the only one in this shoes π so on the #OperationStopAssuming
Hello everyone!
One habit I think I need to outgrow is overthinking. It makes me feel weak, feel crazy. I can talk to myself the whole day in my head. All of the quality that classify an overthinker that's me. I think faster ahead of problems that might not even happen.
It exhaust me alot, that my mind is never at rest. I think before anything happens, while it's happening or even an incident that is long gone.
I do have mixed feelings I feel sad, anxious, and happy. All this feeling mixed up together and make me.π π
It's worst when there is silence. My thoughts becomes louder especially at night. Old memories starts flooding in even embarrassing moments too.
When situations gets out of hands even if I'm not at fault I will blame myself for it.
My habit gets worse when I'm being misunderstood. For instance at a gathering or a community group that contains alot of people. I will feel so scared to talk because i don't want to be misunderstood.
I don't have any plan or working on changes yet. But I will appreciate opinions from anyone who understands or can relate. I will stop here for now.
They say overthinking is for the introverts...hahaha. But seriously, thinking too much can lead to something else.
My dear, whether you speak or not, people will talk. That's normal. Everyone talks but the important thing is not to be bothered by their opinions.
I think I need to outgrow eating outside.
But for now I can't , because these mama put people have been saving life oo
Lolz π
I'm opposite, I don't know how to eat outside, I can only eat few things outside, like Abacha and bole
Seriously?
Well, I find it very hard to eat out. Maybe Cos cooking is my hobby sha, but the likes of pie and snacks, I buy them out.
right now I feel like I've been caught red handed π π€£ π πΉ π....
was just holding my sachet of our so called pure water in my left hand and scrolling through this post and the moment I saw that one Habit we need to stop I'm like wait a minute. .
right there I was with that nylon in my mouth π...
I don't know how I developed this habit but I cannot drink pure water without biting off the tip of the nyon and play with it in my mouth till the whole thing turn something else π π€£ π πΉ
like unknowingly I will just bite off the nylon and play with it
how can I stop this yeye habit....
I really have to stop ooo before it gets out of hand π
Lolz π π
It feels like meat right ππ π
That's a funny one π
crazy π
Agbalagba πππ
Eating pure water nylon, don't pass this on to kids o ππππ
I get that sha, we all have one or two if such habits that are a little bit hard. Maybe you should switch to bottled water. You can't afford to start eating bottles naw π, just joking though.
Find a way around it, maybe you throw it away immediately you're done, or you drink with consciousness of the fact that you're in a public gathering and can't afford to eat be eating nylon in public.
I have mine too o, mine is sweet stick. πππ. I love licking sweet, but that's not the odd part, I refuse to throw away the stick after eating. But you know that, it won't be so obvious that I'm done licking, I know my way around it πππ
See them again π

I know many people like you that do this thing, like , I know someone that even eats the cap of the soft drink the had π , like seriously you people wil not kill me. Be like my own is better. @henryjnrr @yechee abi I lie? Mine habit is better than nylon and plastic chewing people ehn?
π€·π
Eating covers of soft drinks, keh? People have crazy habits o.π My dear, yours isn't better because your nails haboyrs germs o and that chewing can cause you sickness. This was exactly what led me to drop that habit as a teenager.

Happy weekend everyone here
Happy weekend to you
Thank you very much.
For me, one habit I need to totally outgrow from is worrying. I guess this is something many of us go through. We worry about many things. We worry about the future. But worrying doesnβt change anything, even when I know this, I still find myself worrying. And itβs not as if I could stop anything from happening. I have been learning not to worry much until I would no longer have to worry about anything but to trust God.
I would say I did better last year because I had to work on my mind, read out loud thr Word of God and focus more on gratitude and these tips have been effective so far.
Sincerely, the one habit I need to outgrow is giving grace to undeserving people. Yes, I consider it a bad habit, and I think what's stopping me from effecting this change is the fact that I've once loved these people and built a friendship with them.
I'm late guys
