Hello, my lovely Hive Naija people. It’s another beautiful weekend, and we’re excited to have you here once again. A new weekend simply means another chance to buzz the Hive blockchain, connect with one another, and simply have fun. You'll also agree with me that there’s something special about bringing everyone together to gist, share opinions, and enjoy good vibes. That is exactly the reason we will continue to meet every weekend.

Sam's Hangout is focused on promoting the togetherness of the Nigerian brethren through active engagement on the blockchain. Beyond that, it is also centered towards the wellbeing of everyone who takes part in our weekend discussions and helps keep our discord running with their presence.
Note that this account was created to make the engagement more personal and official. You can check out the INTRODUCTION POST to learn more about our purpose and vision.
Please, do not forget to follow this account so you don’t miss out on future hangout posts and updates.
Our previous topic was ”PASSION, HOBBIES, AND PROFIT"

The responses were super amazing and we had over 10 comments filled with honest opinions, jokes, harmless banter, and fresh perspectives to learn from. The energy was truly contagious. Now, let’s see if we can beat our all-time high again this weekend, shall we? Please try to encourage responses by replying to one another. Remember, engagement is what makes this hangout special.

A topic will be dropped every Friday on this account. Do well to share your thoughts, respond to someone else’s opinion, and feel free to interrogate or add more context on it respectfully. If you don’t have anything new to add, simply reply to another comment in agreement. We encourage you to tag your friends to join the discussion so we can have a fuller house.
All interactions should happen in the comment section, because that’s where the real gist goes down.

This week's hangout starts immediately this post goes live and ends on Sunday by 11:59 pm.

Now to our discussion for this weekend! We will be discussing "HEALTH MYTHS AND REALITY”.
Many people grow up believing certain things about their health, from the idea that you only need to see a doctor when you're sick to the belief that natural remedies can treat almost anything. Some of these beliefs are passed down through families and communities, while others come from misinformation or personal experiences. Unfortunately, taking our health seriously only when something goes wrong can sometimes have serious consequences.
Here's the question!
If you have a topic you would like us to discuss in our future hangouts, please feel free to suggest it to us in the comment section and tag @sam.hangout to it.
Okay Let's Gist!!!

Don't you think we are forgetting somebody?... Well, I'm sure we are...

To make our hangout more interactive, we have decided to add two events to spice it up.
On Saturdays, we share our owanbe stories, party gists, and even pictures.
On Sundays, we reflect on the weekend and things we learnt so far, as well as share plans for the new week.
Don't forget to join us!!

There are no strict rules as regards this weekend hangout. Feel free to speak any Nigerian language you like, whether Igbo, Yoruba, pidgin, Efik, or others, as long as it can be understood.
With all that said, let the discussion begin...

Happy Owanbe Saturday, my people.🎉💃
Saturdays are for parties, weddings, and plenty of jollof rice. Did you have any owanbe lined up for today, or were you chilling at home? Share how your Saturday went with us.
Actually there was one in my street, but as I'm not the outgoing type, that's how I only use my eye to see the 3 cows tied to the pole in my street, without getting to taste any of it.

I.
Well, I actually think that most people often believe and trust all these health myths and all much more than they should, especially if they're coming from a friend or trusted individual. I remember how I heard at one time that drinking hot water can help solve almost any stomach-related issue. I do not believe it, though, and I don't know if it's true or not. While it may or may not be correct, one thing is important, and it is that our health isn't something to gamble with, with something that we aren't sure if it's right or not. So, before taking any step or doing anything, it is important to ask questions, seek proper medical care, and do everything possible to avoid medicines that are unknown...
II.
And yes, we shouldn't wait until things go out of hand before we start paying attention to our health. Like I said earlier, out health isn't something to joke or gamble with. Most of these health issues we see today started small, and because we didn't pay attention to them, they turned into big issues that we're now spending all our time on. So, regular checkups, exercising, feeding well, and such are very important to stay healthy. Also, it is important that we pay very good attention to our bodies so we can notice unusual changes instead of thinking everything is normal.
Health is wealth, and it shouldn't for any reason whatsoever be taken for granted.
That quote about health myths is a good reminder. Sometimes we really do look for a shortcut when consistency is the only thing that actually works.
This is quite a sensitive topic and it's mostly the problems we tackle now. Most of us neglect our health till it turns out so bad that it gets out of control. We've solely rely on self medication, turning to our own doctors in knowing that one particular meds we used when we had a fever back then is still the same we would recommend for our spouse or children because they are having same symptoms. I don't think even awareness can orientate us anymore.
No be lie, it been a while here. Where is everyone?
I'll be back to drop my 2cent so we can get the weekend started
Good boy 😎
Yes people must not wait till they get sick before going to seek for medical care. Even when you are healthy , take care of yourself, go for medical check up, avoid what you must avoid.

In Nigeria, there are so many health myths. One health myth that amuses me is the belief that a chubby person is healthier than a slim person. Because of their body size, people tend to assume that bigger people are very healthy, not knowing that there are conditions, such as micronutrient deficiencies, that may exist internally and require proper medical investigations and laboratory tests to detect.
Another health myth is the one involving people in local markets who advertise a particular drug as being capable of solving almost every health problem. It amazes me to see their advertising skills and, more interestingly, people volunteering to have the medication administered to them.
Another belief is that teenagers have no business worrying about their blood pressure. So, when a very young individual walks into a health shop or centre to check their BP, it raises eyebrows. However, blood pressure problems are not exclusive to older people, and young people can also experience them.
Yes, people are becoming increasingly comfortable relying on health myths. When you ask why, it often comes down to ignorance of the correct information and the belief that these practices work because they have seemingly produced results in the past.
On the issue of herbal medication, it may be difficult to hear a doctor recommend an unregulated herbal preparation, but does that make herbal medicine bad? No, it doesn't. However, herbal preparations can easily be abused, especially when their ingredients, safety, interactions and appropriate dosages are unknown. People also tend to self-medicate with them.
They may work in some situations, but I believe they should not replace hospital visits, particularly when professional assessment and proper management are needed for serious health conditions.
I also think it is important to understand that not everyone avoids hospitals because they don't want to seek medical attention. Sometimes, the problem is financial constraints. Hospital bills, consultation fees and the cost of medications can be discouraging, so people resort to herbal preparations or visit chemists to have drugs mixed for them. Sometimes, they get better, which further reinforces their belief in these practices.
Have a wonderful weekend experience!!
