Sam’s Hangout #129 - “LOOKING RICH, LIVING POOR"

I keep saying that peer pressure is real. Which is why every parents should teach their children contentment and how to push and hustle legitimately to succeed. Because that alone will help them spend wisely.

Again, there is an unhealthy pressure to feel among especially in developing countries and it is making young people "the Gen Zs" go any extra miles to do anything just to feel among and when they succeed in doing what ever they wish, you see them lavishing the money.

So i feel every parents have a work to do, our government too , they should enforce strict discipline on these set of people.

This is one topic that alot of people will have things to say about.
But let me say this, anyone who is living life to please others is at the verge of falling..... So where your hand no reach ,you dey jump to reach am by force , what if you fall?
That's like suicide, for me I cannot do pass myself. It's just like what has been going on in my mind for days now and somehow I feel that alot of people have let their priority to be these flashy things of life intend of looking at the downside to these things.

Let's just say that, people should know when to live within their means ,they don't have to be told. Anyone who doesn't listen or doesn't do these... They actually know what they are doing , they just choose not to go the right way, they are good with that thing they do to themselves.

People are plagued by peer pressure and social media displays of others, thereby delving into things they're either not capable of or things that are not necessary for their life journey at the moment.

You can't be struggling and be trying to make an appearance as a rich man, how then can you convince your helper that you need help.

Personally I don't in anyway should what I'm not capable of, yes I might have the desire to own the best of everything, but I don't let that desire cloud my mind to the point where I'll neglect my needs, for things I want just to look luxurious, even I know deep down that I'm only living a facade.

People should learn to live according to their means and not go overboard, just to keep up appearances, it's not just about so people can know you're struggling and help you, but it's about you and the choices you made and how they can affect your life in the near future.

Genuinely, this whole idea of trying to look rich rather than being actually rich stems from a couple of factors. One would be that our society, despite being poor, centers money way too much. It feels like this insane love for money and looking the part has become more worse than it was years ago, and the little kids keep growing up to fit into same lifestyle and narrative.

When you have parents, siblings and even people in key leadership positions prioritize money a little too much, you might begin to lean into doing all it takes to look rich if you can’t get hold of that amount of funds. Pathetic situation, really. I hope young people have the courage to resist these behaviours and pressures.

Well, it's not totally wrong to spend money on things that make you happy, depending on what actually makes you happy.

Let's say sitting out with friends, going vacation, buying stuff for yourself, taking care of the needy ones, spending your money on purposeful things make you happy and you have the money, you know for sure that after the spending, you'd not need to borrow or beg to survive, then it's okay.

The problem is if you're trying to impress or compete rather than being truly happy, or you're using the money recklessly, without budget, savings, or without even investing.

Except you're living an irresponsible lifestyle, which is not the case in this discussion. If you're a responsible person, and like spending on things that make you happy, it's not wrong. Like I said except you're spending on irresponsible lifestyle. If clubbing makes you happy, I'm not in support, if having more than one woman makes you happy, I'm not in support, if being an alcoholic makes you happy, I'm not in support, just name it. And then as a woman if it's only hairs sold at 1.somthing M that makes you happy, even when you know you're not earning something close to that, then that happiness is way too expensive.

After all is said, I would like to add that, if I have money, I will buy things that actually excite me, things I have been hoping to get for myself or do for myself but haven't gotten them due to financial constraints. I will get all of it. But I won't live above my earnings, that is, I won't buy things or do things that are way above my income.

Again, their personal life is my business, and it's my responsibility to always tell them when they're going in the wrong direction. Competition and impression shouldn't be the reason you're spending, it should be that you really need what you're spending on and should be be that you're spending on it because it make you happy.

For me, I think lack of self esteem is one of the reasons why a lot of people put themselves under pressure to be what they are not, or to own what they can't really afford. The sad part is, many won't admit it's because of low self-esteem. Why put yourself under unnecessary pressure to impress people who don't genuinely care about you.

The truth is, most times it's the poor who are trying to impress others and prove a point that they can afford an expensive lifestyle, while the rich think differently. The only way these people can stop putting themselves under this unnecessary pressure is to change their mindset, believe in themselves, and embrace their present financial situation while striving to do better.
