Truth remains that men strong and special Individuals.
They have a way of carrying along of burden and still smiling through it.
My late dad was a great example of what a man should be, how a man should behave,how a man should love and chooses his family.
He taught my brother's well.

I came across a post that people saying as a man you shouldn't do this or that..
I believe men are entitled to anything that makes life easier for them.
Men should use skin care.
Go to the gym.
Men can take soft drinks and not alcohol and not feeling strange about it.
Men can go on solo dates and have a nice time.

In the world we live in right now the man that smiles a lot is secretly carrying Heavy burdens within them and they are not showing it because as a man your not supposed to complain as it is seen as a weakness.

To all men out there going through a lot.

Hello everyone, it's been a while here.

Surrounded by some male friends, I was able to understand the pressure that comes with being a man.
Expectations can be overwhelming, and a lot is expected from men. They are expected to be strong, always in control, and emotionally tough.

So yes, society has created unrealistic expectations around masculinity that make it so hard for men to openly talk about their struggles.
And as a result of this, when they try to express themselves, people see it as a weakness rather than understanding that we are all humans.

This leads to men hiding their emotions, avoiding asking for help, and suffering in silence.

To create a healthy space, we need to redefine the definition of strength. And I believe this should start with our parents. Parents, schools, and communities should raise a boy child how to express their emotions. Strength shouldn't be measured by how much pain one can take and hide.

I think society should encourage open conversations about mental health without judgment.

I am super glad that we're able to talk on this topic even though this is not the very first time we will actually talk about it and there has still been no changes but I AFRIKEN ooo I won't shut up either I'm reasoned with or not.

The fact is that I am annoyed about this whole thing and yes I'll allow my emotions write with me in this. With the kind of society we have groomed for ourselves (cos we are the society and it becomes whatever we want it to become), we are stylishly killing the male gender with so much pressure and expectations.

When a guy is not rich and struggling to survive, we call it hustling but when a lady does same thing, we are referred to as an independent woman. That is not even where I'm going.

If you carry a patched bag but decide to call it a MK designer bag, people call it same thing with you. "Bi onigba ba SE PE igba e niwon se ma ba pe". That is, if the make gender refuse to break this stigma of HE IS A MAN, HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO THAT COD WHY IS HE A MAN IF HE CANT, HE IS STRONG SO HES NOT ALLOWED TO BREAK DOWN, NO! HE SHOULDNT BE COMPLAINING IS HE NOT A MAN? HES TALKING TOO MUCH INSTEAD OF ACTING UP..... They will continue to be suppressed by those despicable expectations of the society and that is why I love the second part of the question

Should men take more responsibility for breaking the stigma

YES! THEY SHOULD cos if they don't then it stays there for coming generations to inherit. But the sad news about it that they wouldn't wanna agree to in breaking this stigma of expectations is the EGO
Some of them want the pride that comes with the strongness while some finds it hard to break that barrier of speaking up and been seen or viewed as a woman.

I wouldn't want to beat around the bush.
But then, thanks a lot for this wonderful topic in such a time as this. It's men's health awareness month and we are glad you see us. Thanks a lot.

I very well believe that the society itself has created certain expectations around men that makes it difficult for a lot of us to speak out and talk about our struggles, challenges and all. Just the other day a woman was telling her son in Yoruba, "shey okunrin ko ni e ni." Meaning, are you not a man. And I just felt bad, allow this man to talk, allow him to bottle out all that he's already bottling in, but then, that's how we're being told right from time, "man up." You can't just afford to be vulnerable, nah, you can afford to act or look weak. And for that reason, a lot of us has learned to hide our pain, struggles and all behind a smile and,"I'm fine."

Men are humans too. We are humans too, in fact we are humans first before we are men, so we should be allowed to talk about our heartbreak, disappointment, fears, exhaustions and all just like every other person. And the reason you see a lot of us keeping quiet is because we tend to see them less of man if they should speak up.

Our society needs to be more of a listener than a critic. The hime itself should learn to start raising sons who understands that they are not weak for voicing out. We should create safe spaces for each other and allow one another to be human.

For this, I think both we the men and the society which we find ourselves should take that responsibility. We both have a role to play in this stigma. You want us to speak up, yet the society and environment which we find ourselves is one that constantly judges you, is one that expects you to bottle in whatever it is you're facing, it's one that feels a man should never even show vulnerability not to talk of cry.

For us to feel safe to talk and voice out, then we need a safe environment first. And a lot of things need to change, like I was saying earlier, the home needs to start teaching that vulnerability is not weakness, when that change comes from the home and the society has also created a safe space, then there will be obvious changes.

One of the way to do this and support one another is by checking on each other, don't always rush to your bros DM for urgent 2k, learn to ask how they are doing, learn to ask how there day went, learn to listen to them. There's one thing I'm learning at the moment and that's listening skill. Yeah, listening is a skill that we all should learn, it helps in relationships, business.... Name it.

Most men have reached their breaking point already, and the outcome of the state they are in isn't in any way good. No man should get to that stage. Men deserve care and support too.

We men/boys have learnt always to say "I am fine" even when nothing is fine because that is the masculinity that our society has built around the silence of a man's features. You will see a young boy who has been told that crying is a sign of weakness, so they have learned to keep all to themselves, even when they are on the verge of breaking. And by the time such a man has become more mature, this habit of suppression is now part of him and his personality that to even ask for help becomes like a burden on him.

And as for the other question, I feel both should go hand in hand. Our society isn't safe enough for men to always open up. Because at this point, a lot of men cannot even open up to the person they call their partner, for personal reasons known to them and i,n my opinion, the world should be safe enough for us men to have at least one or two people whom we can open up to anytime we feel burdened. Because how do you expect someone to open up to you when you will continue to punish that person? That ain't possible. And what I have been doing in my little circle is that when a man comes to me, that he's passing through one or two, instead of flinching, I rather stay in discomfort with him for some moment, because staying like that can be more useful than all these long talks on what he should have done differently

Yes, I strongly believe that society has created unrealistic expectations about what it means to be a man, and these expectations often make it difficult for men to openly discuss their struggles or ask for help when they need it.

Growing up, I often heard people say things like, "Men don't cry," "Be a man," or "Men should be strong no matter what." While these statements may seem harmless, they can have a deep impact on how men handle their emotions. Many men grow up believing that showing sadness, fear, stress, or emotional pain is a sign of weakness. As a result, they learn to hide their feelings even when they are hurting inside.

In my own observation, many men carry enormous responsibilities every day. They worry about providing for their families, paying bills, supporting relatives, and meeting society's expectations. Yet, very few people stop to ask them how they are coping emotionally. When a man complains about feeling overwhelmed, some people immediately tell him to "man up" instead of listening to what he is going through.
I have seen situations where men continue smiling in public while privately dealing with financial pressure, family problems, or emotional pain. Some suffer in silence because they are afraid of being judged or misunderstood. Others feel that nobody will take their struggles seriously. This can make loneliness and mental health challenges even worse.
I believe a major change is needed in how society defines strength. Being strong should not mean pretending that everything is okay when it is not. Real strength includes being honest about your struggles and having the courage to seek help when necessary. Just as we visit a doctor when we have physical pain, there should be no shame in seeking support when we are emotionally exhausted.

At the same time, men also have a role to play in breaking this stigma. Society can create opportunities for conversation, but men must be willing to use those opportunities. Opening up may feel uncomfortable at first, but it can help others realize they are not alone. When one man speaks honestly about his struggles, he gives other men permission to do the same.

I do not think the responsibility belongs only to men or only to society. Both must work together. Families, friends, workplaces, religious organizations, and communities should encourage healthy conversations about mental health without judgment or ridicule.

In my family, I try to support the men around me by listening more and judging less. Sometimes people are not looking for solutions; they simply need someone who will listen. I also try to show appreciation for the sacrifices men make because many of them quietly carry burdens that others do not see. From my experience visiting less privileged people and spending time with families facing difficult situations, I have learned that everyone, including men, needs compassion, encouragement, and emotional support.

One thing I have come to understand is that vulnerability does not make a man weak. In fact, it takes courage to admit that you are struggling and need help. A man who speaks about his pain is not losing his masculinity; he is taking care of his mental and emotional well-being.
As we mark Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, I hope we continue to create a society where men feel safe enough to say, "I am not okay," without fear of being mocked or judged. When men are supported emotionally, families become stronger, communities become healthier, and society as a whole benefits.

This is just the stigma talked about, the saddening reality the male gender are forced to face, right from the earliest stages of their life. Way before they can even learn to say and spell their names 😑.

In my opinion, one way men can reduce this whole pressure is that, they shouldn’t allow society detect how their life should go. Yes, people have much expectations from you and you’re not quarter to those expectations yet, slow down. Some days, give yourself that treat, don’t solve every puzzle, don’t say yes to everything. Don’t be “Monica” iykyk 😭 Brothers, I’m not saying you should be reckless but choose yourself if the pressure is getting too much. Because that’s what most of us do 🙊
Expectations from family will never end, so why yield to that? So my dears, don’t let what people say or expect from you kill you before your time.

Answer: Yes. Even as a child, people expect the male child to act differently to events. Over time they develop this idea of hiding their pain from the world to maintain this status that a man should carry.

To change this ideology, Certain people (especially from the other gender) need to show the world the pain men carry around unshared and unspoken of. Every change starts with a knowledge, orienting people about their ignorance or misconception, and it suddenly becomes a force.

When people are oriented, they could become more supportive, affirming them that everything would be alright in hard times. People may sincerely start to ask men "how they are" and never judge them when they learn they've failed over and over again. Knowledge is power

The pressure on men is too much, my friend will always say she wants to remain a woman even in her next world, I didn't understand her until we graduated. I finally realized the pressure on men is too much and yet the society feels as a man you should have it all figured out.
Men really need to be encouraged to speak about their emotions and ask for support when they need one.

Men aren't supernatural beings without emotions or feelings. A safe space need to be created for men , by their family and the society, suppressing their feelings and emotions shouldn't be an option.

We should normalize having conversations about mental wellness with men. Supporting this men is showing them compassion, not judging them when they seek for help and they should understand that asking for help is also strength.

This is an important topic and I’m glad that everyone else views it the same. Frankly, I believe the onus lies on society to make men feel more safer and vulnerable sharing their problems and feelings with one another. And who is society? It is you, the hardened men out there, the soft ones brought up with love and I, too. We share a responsibility in making sure that we never mock the men who show vulnerability and that we offer support when needed.

However, it’s pertinent to understand that the men also have a huge role to play in their healing and emotional stability. On Hive Fake abuse fighter turning a blind eye to the truth 🙏🏾

In this post is some of the evidence to prove my case

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive

They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years

So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new

But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does

Everyone already knows I only post my own original content I have no need to steal anything from anyone

I've been labelled a lot of things on Hive 😂 by the biggest farmers scammers and downvoters

Actions speak louder than any words do especially when them words are coming from a compolsive liars
