Hello, my lovely Hive Naija people. It’s another beautiful weekend, and we’re excited to have you here once again. A new weekend simply means another chance to buzz the Hive blockchain, connect with one another, and simply have fun. You'll also agree with me that there’s something special about bringing everyone together to gist, share opinions, and enjoy good vibes. That is exactly the reason we will continue to meet every weekend.

Sam's Hangout is focused on promoting the togetherness of the Nigerian brethren through active engagement on the blockchain. Beyond that, it is also centered towards the wellbeing of everyone who takes part in our weekend discussions and helps keep our discord running with their presence.
Note that this account was created to make the engagement more personal and official. You can check out the INTRODUCTION POST to learn more about our purpose and vision.
Please, do not forget to follow this account so you don’t miss out on future hangout posts and updates.
Our previous topic was ”NATIONAL SECURITY & RESPONSIBILITY"

The responses were super amazing and we had over 80+ comments filled with honest opinions, jokes, harmless banter, and fresh perspectives to learn from. The energy was truly contagious. Now, let’s see if we can beat our all-time high again this weekend, shall we? Please try to encourage responses by replying to one another. Remember, engagement is what makes this hangout special.

A topic will be dropped every Friday on this account. Do well to share your thoughts, respond to someone else’s opinion, and feel free to interrogate or add more context on it respectfully. If you don’t have anything new to add, simply reply to another comment in agreement. We encourage you to tag your friends to join the discussion so we can have a fuller house.
All interactions should happen in the comment section, because that’s where the real gist goes down.

This week's hangout starts immediately this post goes live and ends on Sunday by 11:59 pm.

Now to our discussion for this weekend! We will be discussing "MONEY AND CHARACTER”.
Money has always been viewed as one of the powerful forces that controls every society. Many systems and associations experience various transformations with money, and for humans, it sometimes changes their character, and how they relate with others. While some believe money does not change a person, others argue that access to such huge finances, comfort and proximity to power, can transform people over time. This raises interesting questions about whether our values remain the same when our circumstances change.
Here's the question!
If you have a topic you would like us to discuss in our future hangouts, please feel free to suggest it to us in the comment section and tag @sam.hangout to it.
Okay Let's Gist!!!

Don't you think we are forgetting somebody?... Well, I'm sure we are...

To make our hangout more interactive, we have decided to add two events to spice it up.
On Saturdays, we share our owanbe stories, party gists, and even pictures.
On Sundays, we reflect on the weekend and things we learnt so far, as well as share plans for the new week.
Don't forget to join us!!

There are no strict rules as regards this weekend hangout. Feel free to speak any Nigerian language you like, whether Igbo, Yoruba, pidgin, Efik, or others, as long as it can be understood.
With all that said, let the discussion begin...

Happy weekends, we are here again.
Let me quickly drop little I have before I get super busy.
One day I was watching a Nollywoodovie and then a statement was made that sticks to my head till date, I use them as well when I finally did my research and realized it is never wrong, the words were "what do you expect from a poor man than be humble"
It's not fake at all, a lot of them enduring some shit just because they
are not in that position to confront or decline and No, money doesn't change one, it brings the real "you" it gives the Freedom to do things out of one's self will. Yes, I can't say I witness someone change after having money but I will say they step up their behavior, their characters, I am someone that quickly catch up to ones character,no matter how much you hide it.
I myself have plans on what I would stop accepting and what I will tolerate when I'm financially capable, yes , I will step up as well but one things I will make sure never change about me is my good heart, I hope good heart of mine grow even more when I'm financially bouyant.
@marsdave @goldenproject @afrikens @van.illa
How's your weekend going guys?
But you also know we have rich people who are humble anyways...if money only reveals who people really are, then doesn't poverty also hide who people really are?
Huhm, please let your good heart rich me o 😜
A person's character is who they are, morally, mentally, their values and beliefs, which are usually reflected in their interaction with others and in terms of challenges. Though, sometimes when life hits, it humbles one, thereby hiding the person's true character.
If eventually the person makes it big later, that's when you'll know who they really are. A poor kind person would be kinder, if rich or in power. And vice versa.
So, I'm of the opinion that money or power doesn't change people. Rather, it reveals their true character.
Come give your 2 cent, @cagolistic and @luchyl
Huh, money and character 🤔.
They are two edged sword. I have seen individuals that were very kind and poor and immediately money starts coming in, they became wolfs and Lion.
I have also seen rich individuals that are kind to the core.
The true test of character is when money comes. If the character remains positive then it is the persons true character.
Money is a major determinant of peoples' behaviour in this side of the world.
However, some people can pretend for a while and hide their true picture. In the long run, the test of time will reveal their true character.
Thank you for the mention
For instance, if a person who is generous has an opportunity to control wealth, that person will become more helpful. It's already his/her character to be helpful, and money now gives the liberty to showcase that kindness.
What wealth does to a person is to give them the freedom to act according to their desires and priorities, it doesn't change them abit.
They now have the liberty to get and act as they have always desired for themselves.
Someone who's extravagant will focus on purchasing the luxury things they never had because of lack , because that has always been their desire and priority. That doesn't mean they changed.
Wealth only influences character, when responsibilities and pressure sets in. Some losses torch of their beginning, some become more bold and some even detach from others.
Money only magnifies an already existing character, it doesn't change a persons personality or character.
@cohlson @goldenproject @marsdave @chefqueen This is my 50cent, come and share your own it's hangout time.
You are right mama, it will only amplifier that silent character that they already have in them.
Is this not more than 50cent 🤦
To add my 2cent like I always do. In my opinion and from what I have seen which has proven that money amplifier something in us, if not all, most people. When someone finally have that bastard money, it reveals more than changes because it will remove that barrier that has been quietly masking who that person already was.
That is why some people will say if they have money, they will show others pepper, they will collect, stuff like that. I have seen how some people suddenly become a cheerful giver when they have while others will just go mean and cold. And in that case, it is a transformation of money finally showing their pictures in 9D
It's just like Tinubu showing us his true colour now after silently telling us all about it during his campaign.
@treasuree @marsdave @ivyann @van.illa @chefqueen @nkemakonam89 @afrikens
Come and add your 50cent
Let's get the cent started
9D? Is this not exaggeration 🤣🤣🤣
Omo, you see that Tinubu that you mention enh ... Chai 🤦
Hahaha... Thanks for the mention! I've given my 2 cent, though.🤣
But for real, like you said, money amplifier people's character.
Thanks for given your 2 cent.
Have a fabulous weekend.
I.
Some people often say money brings out the original you, and I want to say that is true to some extent, just that I would love to rephrase it, that money just removes the boundaries/embargos/limits that has been weighing them down or holding them back and then help reveal who they originally are.
There will definitely be changes, you can't expect a change in someone's finances to not affect and show in them. I've seen people who are generous even when they had very little do much more when they became very successful, they began to extend their helping hands to where they couldn't reach before, and I've seen those who have been "arcagon," continue to be stingy when they become rich, and when you look very well, you realize that they've been like that from the very start. Same goes to those who you feel became arrogant when money came, nah, they've always been arrogant, the signs have always been there we just didn't pay much attention. Money only made it more glaring and gave them the confidence to now do and show it openly.
Poverty is a bæstard, aswr 🤣. It will force you to behave in certain ways and do certain things. Tell me how rich and successful people react to insults and draggings, and compare it to how poverty would make a poor man react to it. Even when you need help, there are a lot for things you just have to bear, just so you could receive the help, a rich man/woman wouldn't tolerate it, such wouldn't come his/her way.
But when money comes all of those things will be nowhere to be found. I would love to liken money/wealth to a Torchlight, and human to a plate that has food inside of it, but then no one can really see what's inside the plate/bowl. So, when wealth comes as a Torchlight and it shines inside the plate whatever is in there becomes visible. If it is generosity, kindness, humility it becomes more obvious, and if it shines and it meets greed, selfishness, pride and the likes in it, it will become more obvious.
In short, when money comes in, whatever is inside of you become more obvious.
II.
..."Extremely wealthy.."
That's huge. Well, it I become extremely wealthy it's very sure that a lot of things about me and life will change. We should all be honest with ourselves, I stay in a one room apartment at the moment and wealth comes and you expect me not to change environment, common. I'm going to use money to charge at the moment and wealth will come and I wouldn't go to install solar all over... Common now.
Those might be little changes, my point is change will definitely come. Lifestyle would improve, connections will come, people will find me, brands will look for me, my status will change, access to people and places of power would become more easy.
But the part I would want to protect in me is the humility. I know things will change even still, I . wouldn't want to be proud. I have a lot of things about me, like checking in on people, helping the little way I could, playing and being around kids and all, and those are things I wouldn't want to allow wealth to take away from me. Also, I understand struggle so well,. I've been in situations where I really struggled and blamed poverty for a lot of things, and for that I would want to be someone who can help those that are struggling out, not just helping but being someone that's approchable. Wealth has it's own way of creating distance, wealth has its way of making you feel you're better than others and that is something I wouldn't want to give in to.
Like I said earlier, it won't be that easy because to whom much is given, much is expected, with great wealth comes great change.... Obvious changes. So, I would want to protect that humble and respectful side of me. If I can remain humble and respectful then that's all for me.
Here's my 1cent. Have been sleeping since 🥺.

No matter your current level — whether you are a student burning the midnight candle,a salary earner managing fuel and rent,a hustler on the streets of Lagos, Abuja, or Port Harcourt,or an entrepreneur grinding with small capital — decide today the exact kind of rich person you want to become when your breakthrough arrives.Protect your soul. Protect your relationships with family and true friends who stood by you during your dry season.Let money be a tool for good in your hands: to build businesses, empower others, support your community, uplift the less privileged, and leave a lasting positive legacy.
Furthermore, it is relative. For some people, money reveals their true character, but for others, it changes their mindset, habits and relationships over time. That is why character matters before wealth comes.Money may test you, reveal you, or reshape you, depending on who you already are.
If I ever become wealthy, I would want it to amplify my humility, faith, integrity, and love for people, not replace them. Real wealth is not just money; it is peace of mind, a clean conscience, and the ability to remain grounded no matter how much you have. When character is strong, wealth becomes a gift; when character is weak, wealth can become a trap. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Honestly, money does not directly change people, it only give people a platform to feel supreme, and whatever they do with that feelings is what surface after acquiring wealth.
When one suddenly becomes wealthy, the first thing he does is to try to protect that wealth(ensuring it doesn't finish), it's at that moment most people distant themselves from others, some suddenly become too busy, while others starts to dream of a world where everything is possible. All through this process, some become mean, some rarely spend quality time with their loved ones, some spend extravagantly, and others try to change their lives by desiring a different lifestyle and companies.
Money doesn't directly change anyone, it only influences a decision that allows the beholder to choose. Whatever he becomes is the choice he made at that moment and not a sudden resurfacing of a dormant character
I believe money changes people. It could be for the best or for the worst.
Money comes with a change in status among other things. If someone who wasn't rich eventually becomes rich, that person would have to update their lifestyle, thinking and behaviour to suit the new status they have attained because of the new found wealth.
The change that comes is a result of the money. What matters is what or who you change to. Money gives you freedom to make certain decisions. Whether you decide to make good decisions or bad decisions depends on you.
That's why I think people have to be conscious of what they do when they experience a change in status resulting from wealth.
