Hello, my lovely Hive Naija people. It’s another beautiful weekend, and we’re excited to have you here once again. A new weekend simply means another chance to buzz the Hive blockchain, connect with one another, and simply have fun. You'll also agree with me that there’s something special about bringing everyone together to gist, share opinions, and enjoy good vibes. That is exactly the reason we will continue to meet every weekend.

Sam's Hangout is focused on promoting the togetherness of the Nigerian brethren through active engagement on the blockchain. Beyond that, it is also centered towards the wellbeing of everyone who takes part in our weekend discussions and helps keep our discord running with their presence.
Note that this account was created to make the engagement more personal and official. You can check out the INTRODUCTION POST to learn more about our purpose and vision.
Please, do not forget to follow this account so you don’t miss out on future hangout posts and updates.
Our previous topic was ”PARENTS AND UNSPOKEN FEELINGS"

The responses were super amazing and we had over 150+ comments filled with honest opinions, jokes, harmless banter, and fresh perspectives to learn from. The energy was truly contagious. Now, let’s see if we can beat our all-time high again this weekend, shall we? Please try to encourage responses by replying to one another. Remember, engagement is what makes this hangout special.

A topic will be dropped every Friday on this account. Do well to share your thoughts, respond to someone else’s opinion, and feel free to interrogate or add more context on it respectfully. If you don’t have anything new to add, simply reply to another comment in agreement. We encourage you to tag your friends to join the discussion so we can have a fuller house.
All interactions should happen in the comment section, because that’s where the real gist goes down.

This week's hangout starts immediately this post goes live and ends on Sunday by 11:59 pm.

Now to our discussion for this weekend! We will be discussing "NATIONAL SECURITY & RESPONSIBILITY”.
The past few months have filled with terror for many Nigerians as insecurity concerns has taken over the course of the day. Citizens are being kidnapped on a daily basis, children are tortured to trauma while the perpetrators of this act remain committed to sharing clips of their activities online and demanding outrageous ransoms. The government has done little or nothing to curb this problem and this endless cycle has raised deep conversations about leadership, community responsibility, and the role individuals can play in creating safer environments.
Here's the question!
If you have a topic you would like us to discuss in our future hangouts, please feel free to suggest it to us in the comment section and tag @sam.hangout to it.
Okay Let's Gist!!!

Don't you think we are forgetting somebody?... Well, I'm sure we are...

To make our hangout more interactive, we have decided to add two events to spice it up.
On Saturdays, we share our owanbe stories, party gists, and even pictures.
On Sundays, we reflect on the weekend and things we learnt so far, as well as share plans for the new week.
Don't forget to join us!!

There are no strict rules as regards this weekend hangout. Feel free to speak any Nigerian language you like, whether Igbo, Yoruba, pidgin, Efik, or others, as long as it can be understood.
With all that said, let the discussion begin...

No Owanbe at all . I have not smelled party rice in monthsssssss
Answering to question 2, I’ll state strongly that the failure of the government in protecting its citizens is the sole cause of this rising insecurity. For years, our leaders have continually placed our nation’s security under low priority issues. They don’t care who gets into the country or who leaves, they don’t pay security agencies anything significant, neither do they help ensure that justice is given to those whose security had been compromised. Even worse, their non-chalance towards providing jobs and manpower contributes greatly to the young citizens roaming through states to engage in terrible vices like kidnapping.
If we can get our government to care and provide us with the basic necessities, lots of our problems will be reduced. Security agencies should be undergo full reform as they have been compromised. Every educational institution should have adequate security to protect students and consistent social activities that enlighten everyone on the consequences of engaging in vices that disturbs the peace of the nation. Lastly, the government should ensure that every community’s security is tightened and functional to serve the people, and surveillance technologies should be utilized to track these kidnappers, which will lead to the eventual rescue of those held hostage. I hope there’s a time where we won’t have to deal with the terrible insecurity issues we have now.
Good morning, everyone 🌞.
Not to beat around the bush, I love this topic... So much. And the thing is if we are not very careful at times, we will talk, write and do all out of line, because Nigeria herself has gone out of line, so instead of focusing on the actual topic/pressing matter, we began to derail and start complaining and all, which is understandable. It is what Nigeria has turned us into...but so I wouldn't start derailing too, lets say something....
For a while now I've been writing at least once a week about the situation of the country, especially about this insecurity of a thing. And the situation on ground is one that we can't ignore, and even though the primary responsibility of the government is to safeguard the lives and properties of its citizens, our own government has proven to be a failure, and we the citizens can no longer rely on them.
We the people need to be involved in a way that won't lead to violence and bloodshed. I was hearing a news of how some kidnappers were apprehended by Niger Delta boys, I love that, but what I don't like is how they are as well acting like them, because this Niger Delta boys as well were asking for a ransom before releasing them to go.... Like, that's not the solution to this things. Each communities should do all in its capacity to have watch groups, night watch men, look out for our vulnerable ones and all. Also, we shouldn't just leave him without telling anyone, and we shouldn't lie that we are going to zone A, whereas we are on our way to zone Y. It may look small, but it will help.
The government and our security agencies have failed, no doubt about that. This is a problem that should have been put out years ago, but they allowed it to grow into something they as well cannot manage anymore. So, we the citizens should be at alert always, work together and do what we can to keep our communities safe. Even still, we shouldn't stop protesting and calling out this failed government who's only concerned about being reelected.
Like I said earlier, I have been talking about this things for a while now, almost every week. The government has failed and they are as well the root cause of it, using it's citizens life to play politics.... common.
Funny thing is, when they get this people they rehabilitate them and throw them back into the society... Who does that... What a failed government this is. And like sheikh Gumi will always say, our government know these people. There's corruption in our various government agencies, there's enmity and a whole lot, all these has add up together and had made this problem grow to this extent.
You now see security agencies being able to track down someone who speaks against the government on his media handle, but they can't apprehend terrorists who post and flaunts their victims, the ransoms and their ammunitions online.... Misplaced priority. It's just obvious that the government knows way beyond they admit.
There's an idea by Charles Awuzie,it is about the privatization of security. He proposed that private security agencies should come in, with their own expertise and all, then work together with the government security agencies... He made mention of some countries like South Africa who are into that already. A privately owned security agencies won't in any way want to tarnish their image, they will put all that is needed in place to do the work they are given.
Also, I believe we need a change in leadership, the judiciary, the president, the Senate and all.... We need better. Because the present ones aren't concerned about our welfare, they place their own interests and politics above their citizens. And until there's a change in leadership, I doubt if anything will change, it (this insecurity) will only continue to grow and these set of leaders will continue to give us empty promises.
In-between, go get your PVC ASAP.
Thank you for your attention to this matter

Omo boss you finish the matter here oh.
Like seriously, sometimes when I remember the situation of my country, it shocks me to my bones. From the chibo girls (2011) to the oyo children, why are they going for the children? May God help us all, Amen.
Baba, you said it all 🤝
Mama, I didn't say anything 😭
Sorry I am late😭 but at least I made it here 🤭 so my opinion 👇
The major cause of insecurity in Nigeria is the government; and once the head is affected, the body (citizens) would follow.
First, Nigeria has a porous border. We share borders with Benin, Togo, Niger, and Cameroon. I believe many attackers aren’t even Nigerians allegedly o 😅. In developed countries you don’t see this level of infiltration because their borders are tight. Ours are loose. Bribery at the borders makes it easy for arms and criminals to enter. And the reason why it’s easy for this to happen is because the government isn’t punishing bribery as it ought to. How would they even punish bribery when they’re the major culprits. LOL!
Second, our justice system is too weak. “Be your brother’s keeper” doesn’t work when you can’t trust the police. Hand a case to them and money can bury it. If laws aren’t enforced, people take justice into their own hands. If only we can have a special court for terrorism and banditry. You know how people feel when they hear their case is going to the high court or court of appeal, it means it’s now very serious right? I feel if we have this special court for banditry and all, and they really enforce justice, these insecurity issue would reduce.
Lastly, if only the loan the president takes are invested into our security tech department. We no go too vex. Because why can’t our tech department in these security forces fish out these criminals? Our tech department needs to do better. If they can’t they should seek helper from other countries 🥲
We as citizens can only help ourselves if the government does its job. Because Nigerians can be funny. They wont hand criminals without bloodshed or even demanding for money from the kidnappers 😂 my opinion tho.
BTW, whether the vote count or not, make we Sha vote. All die na die. Just try so that things that aren’t supposed to be prayer points won’t be prayer points in our country.
Thank you.
I agree with the shared border issues, we share border with others African countries and our country doesn't even care about the movement of immigrants. That could be part of our problems here. I pray God helps us, it's getting scary here daily.
Happy weekend, Tessy
Yes! Thank you sis ❤️ hope your weekend was splendid tho
Good afternoon friends. Let me add my own based on the topic. I don't really have much to say because, out country is in a mess. some times I am afraid of what will happen in ten years to come.
Our government are not to be dependent on, because they don't even know who we are.
They only know you when they want to contest for a positions, that period, you see them being loyal, acting and showing concern on us but deep down they don't care if we die or live as long as they are safe, they are okay.
I think we (the citizens) should secure ourselves first, because even the government are afraid of their life.
The best option is for everyone to be vigilant and stay safe, when we see any suspicious thing we report not to the police but to the soldiers because I think they are more active than the police, police are not straight forward, they can't be trusted as they might collect bribe then the case will be closed..
The insecurities in our country is fast rising and many people have been killed because of the carelessness of our government.
Thank you all.
Yes, I strongly believe the current insecurity in this country has gotten to the point that citizens have to keep their safety in their hands. We need to safeguard our space, kids, family, friends and community.
Just a few days ago, I watched an unfiltered video of the horrible things these kidnappers do to their victims and nobody deserves such treatment. It's horrible and bad to behold. We are in trouble if we have people like this amongst us and the craziest part is that our leaders don't care.
The truth is we shouldn't wait until it gets to our doorstep before we start being vigilant and in charge of our safety. Our leaders don't care, if they care these men would have been tracked and apprehended long ago.
At this point, it's really important to share useful information, especially when we see suspicious and strange people around our environment. Security is an individual responsibility. We shouldn't just rely on our failed leaders, a lot of things are happening in our current world. Very scary things that keep me thinking about humanity: People have lost their conscience.
Have strong vigilante and security groups on our streets, while we stay alert with our weapons at home.
The truth is that It's now our responsibility to create a safer community for ourselves, our leaders have failed us. For every one of us in this country we need to prioritize our safety and be careful.
Happy Weekend, Guys 🥰
@marsdave @afrikens @chefqueen @cohlson it's another hangout 🎉
That's just the bitter truth. We need to look out for ourselves, our lives and everyone around us and it has become our corporate responsibilities to do that
So what else do you want us to say now.. you've said it all 🤦
Greetings my lovely friend and happy weekend.
I believe the rising insecurity in Nigeria is caused by both the actions of criminals and the failure of leadership to provide adequate protection for citizens. While those committing kidnappings and other crimes are directly responsible for their actions, weak institutions, poor law enforcement, unemployment, and corruption have allowed insecurity to grow.
Citizens should become more involved in safeguarding their communities, but only through peaceful means. They can report suspicious activities, support neighborhood watch groups, share useful information with security agencies, and look out for one another. Community cooperation can help prevent crimes before they occur.
For long-term solutions, the government must strengthen security agencies, improve intelligence gathering, create more job opportunities for young people, ensure justice is served quickly, and invest in education. Security is everyone's responsibility, but the government must lead the effort while citizens support it through vigilance and cooperation. Let's all stay safe and vigilant.
My people, I troway salute. How una weekend dey go? Rain no gree make we see road do weekend gbedu since yesterday.
The matter for ground be say the government has failed it's citizens. I no longer have faith in the government and leadership of this country to protect it's citizens.
We all see and hear the security threats happening daily in this country - kidnapping, bloodshed and all, yet, the government is busy campaigning for a return into government.
Let everyone be on guard and protect themselves, in any way they can because the government cannot and will not protect its citizens because they do not have the power to do so. Let's not be surprised if whatever that's going on in this country is one way they want to reduce population.
Yes, you're right ma, yesterday after work, I came across a vedio of oyo hunters who caught a Fulani man in the bush, and they were asking him some questions. One of my uncle said if he was the person that caught him, he would have killed him there before anyone will notice.
But I thought we have military in the country.
Those who are set to protect us cannot even protect themselves. God we are in your hands🙏🙏
We have military o, unfortunately, the military doesn't have the power, arms and ammunitions to even fight these bandits.
We only trust in God for protection.

Thank God I have my PVC ...I will do well to vote out those wicked government leaders on power 😩,maybe we can start breathing from insecurity issues because I am even speechless with this current happenings
My sister, the news is a lot more depressing these days. I truly hope we can come out of this mess.
Sincerely on this matter, I don't have much to say. But then, lemme just add my 2cent because with the situation of things, the government knows what to do and how to stop all these insecurity issues we are currently being faced with but that is not their problem, they prefer to look away, rehabilitate those criminals than to care to the citizens. No wonder they call us country of particular concern. However, as the matter stands now, one of the roles that we the citizens can always do is to be our brothers keepers especially when we notice something unusual, we should broadcast it and speak up for others to know in a way that we share credible information to relevant authorities, representing all these useful movements against insecurities we see, like the question said, no bloodshed. So we should not take laws into our own hands but the best I believe is to join hands together to protect eachother through cooperation

Our leaders has failed us, but we shouldn't be silent, let's help ourselves and always stay safe. You said it all.
I couldn't agree less!
Disseminating credible information that could lessen or better still, totally eliminate an atom of danger to the lives of every other person is just one of the best way to go about it all.
As we all know, information is power🥲.
Most times, those whom you think are helping to fight are the same people that lick the secrets to the opponents. Some of the citizens are responsible for most of the things happening in the country.
Yes, because of that we shouldn't now say nothing must be done

Hello, People! It's time for our Sunday Reflections!🎉💃 Did you go to church today? If yes, what did you learn? If not, how are you spending your Sunday? Please, share with us!
I went to church and since it's a first Sunday and Thanksgiving for the annual 7 nights program, we closed very late and I'm very tired right now.
I won't even lie that I didn't really pay attention to the sermon because of all the stress but I know the text was from the book of Deuteronomy and that we should rely on God who alone is capable of solving all our problems
