Giving my response to the the second question, in my own way I'd listen to my children without immediately fixing or judging them and even trying to compare them because from what I know and what I have seen, I believe that children will stop talking and begin to hold back when honesty brings lectures and all these unnecessary talks. And secrecy is not rebellion, it's protection and that is one of the reasons why most children hide what they have learned is not safe to show you

Greetings my lovely friends and happy weekend.

I believe many people have things they have always wanted to say to their parents but never had the courage to express. Sometimes it is because of fear, respect, or not wanting to create problems in the family. Some people want to say “thank you,” while others want to express pain they have kept inside for years.
Personally, I think it is never too late to speak honestly with our parents if it will bring peace and healing. Even if they may not fully understand, expressing your true feelings can help lift emotional burdens and improve relationships.
If I became a parent today, I would create an environment where my children feel safe talking to me without fear of harsh judgment. I would listen more, communicate openly, and make them feel comfortable sharing their fears, mistakes, and struggles with me.
Although secrecy can be part of growing up, children should never feel afraid to speak to their parents. Open communication helps build trust, love, and stronger family relationships.

Good morning my beautiful friends, how are you all? Today will be a kind of busy day for me, that's why I decided to wake up early to participate because I don't want to be left out 😄😄😄.

The way we were raised, communication was never a problem, infact I grew up knowing that I could discuss almost anything with my parents face to face. So I don't think I have any unspoken feelings or grievances that I have been unable to share with them.

Something happened on my traditional marriage day that stood out for me till dates, My father became emotional and was seen shedding tears. When people asked him why he was crying, he replied that among all his children, I was the one who would always tell him directly whenever he did something wrong. He actually appreciated my honesty and openness, and yes that was how close we were even up till dates.

Growing up, I never hid things from my parents. Not even when a young man approaches me on the road or expressed interest in me 🫣🫣🫣, I would still go home and tell my parents about it. That was how close we were. I never felt afraid for once to share my thoughts, feelings, or experiences with them.

Today, I try to apply the same principle in raising my own children. I want them to see me as someone they can trust and talk to freely. We joke together, we eat together, we chat about different things, and I make it a habit to ask them about their day at school, or whatever that happens around them. More importantly, I can be a good listener when it comes to my children. I leave whatever I'm doing and listen when they talk. I believe that being a good listener will help them feel valued and understood, and even open to discussing more with me.

I don't know if it's only me that has noticed that children nowadays can be quite different. My eldest son, for example, is naturally reserved and prefers to keep things to himself. He does not easily talk about what is happening in his life, not because he is hiding something, but he doesn't know how to express himself naturally, so to speak. Because of this, I make a conscious effort to engage him in conversations. I constantly reassure him that he can tell me anything, whether it is good or bad, and that I will always be there to support him, I will shower him with praises, call him pet names just to make him smile and feel relaxed. I also try to pay attention to changes in his behavior and make out time to have a meaningful discussion with him. Gradually, he has started opening up and sharing personal stuffs with me, and it brings me great joy.

Yes keeping communication open has blessed me with a close relationship with my parents, and it is a value that I am trying hard to pass on to my children as well.

They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years

So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new

I honestly do believe that kids have a phase where secrecy is normalized. Even when their actions may not be considered bad, they prefer to stay silent or share certain information with their siblings or peers alone. Thankfully, it usually doesn't last long for those who were raised in much love and honesty.

If I ever had kids, surely that depth of love and honesty would be the first thing I raise them with. I'll teach them how open communication works and the benefits of sharing confidential information with me. I'll encourage them to be comfortable with me as well by letting them on in my own decisions and secrets. That way, trust is built and they can always imitate what they see.

We're no longer in the times where lack of communication and inability to express oneself in a close knit family should be glorified. Now more than ever, we must draw the young ones closer because the more they confide in us, the less grieviances they habour, and the easier it is for us to solve situations that involves their safety and general well being.

We can all agree that the key to building a healthy parent and child relationship is open communication.
I strongly believe children should communicate with their parents without fear or have any challenges communicating their fears, challenges , mistakes and even regrets. I feel it's extremely safe to raise children that can open up and communicate with zero secrets.

When I become a mom, first I will make my kids understand that they should always trust me with their secrets, listen to them without judgements, because the moment children feel judged they will go back to keeping secrets.

Every parent needs to create that relationship with their children, provide a home where honesty is valued and make kids realize that they aren't perfect. I believe, kids should always communicate their mistakes, fears and challenges without fear .
Especially, In this generation, it's very risky to raise a child that can't communicate openly or even scared of communicating. I believe secrets shouldn't be a natural part of growing up.

Also, I have noticed that kids will always communicate and open up when they feel heard, understood, not judged and condemned.

All these children and teenagers need is guidance and that is our responsibility as adults and parents.

Lemme not beat around the bush and contribute my 50cent to this matter..

First off, as a child I'm a little bit different from others, I mean I was never the type to shush my mouth except if I don't just want to, so I definitely have things I didn't say out up till now, but me not saying it means it's not important. Yes, not as if I talk to them somehow, no. I'm a very respectful child as well, and I respect my parents so much, so when I don't feel comfortable with a thing, I call them and I voice it out respectfully.

I've spoken to my mum and dad about things they probably never expected to hear from me, maybe they felt it should have come from my older siblings and such, but when it seems they (my older siblings) don't want to talk or just felt comfortable with it, I say it out. I just believe so much is communication, conversations, and honest discussions.

And for this few things I haven't say out yet, I'm not sure I will, the fact that I haven't said it out means I can handle it or I've just made peace with it and can let go or allow it. I'm sure you understand me. It's not because I'm afraid to speak...nah.

About if I become a parent today, own of the things I will even work towards, which I'm already doing is to become the kind of parent a child feels safe to tell anything. There's something about being a parent a child can come to freely to discuss their issues, fears, pressures, and all with.
I've not been here for long, but for the little time I've spent here, I can see the obvious changes on our society. The pressures and all that children are facing today are the type almost every parent never faced while they were growing up.

And children will always talk and open up when they are excited, scared, confused, or even in trouble, they will always talk, so it depends on the kind of relationship you have with them. So, they either tell you or find someone else to talk too. I'm always around kids, and countless times have I heard stuffs, guess what, at the end of the day you will see this children telling me, "don't tell my mummy o. " And it speaks volumes. They knew there parents will never handle it they way I did, they knew they my might regret it if their parents ever knew.

Also, in as much as we can say a child should open up and all, even if the parents were always there for them doing things the right way, children will still and will always have their secrets. It is just a natural part of growing up. A child won't divulge to you every single thing, the most important thing is just that make sure you're the type of parent that what your child is hiding from you isn't stuffs they are maybe struggling with, make sure you're the kind of parent they can always walk up to, so that whatever they decide to not let out will be things that don't count, things that even if you later know about... It's nothing.

My own children will know that they can tell me about anything and I wouldn't handle it the way they won't like. There's something about being an understanding parent. Children will fail, they will be scared, they will make mistakes, and all, it's left for us to know how best to handle situations and give them a listening ear, not to judge, not to argue, not to shout at them, but to listen to really listen (understand).
