We Are Alive! February 1st, 2024 Green Coffee Bean Roast

It's a bit of a birthday tradition. I get a discount code for the "Coffee Project" coffee beans and I pick up a few pounds of GREEN coffee beans. The nice thing about GREEN coffee beans is that they can be stored a very long time and freshly roasted (even a long time later) and they taste just as good as any freshly roasted bean!

Having a new batch of beans coming in, I was inspired to roast up an older batch of beans. These were purchased in 2022. Who wants 2 year old coffee? I do!

I am roasting a very small batch for practice, about a quarter cup.

I put them in the pan over high heat and slowly roast them on the stove.

They begin to show signs of roasting by changing color from a pale green to a yellow/orange.

As they begin to roast, I can smell the delicious aroma of roasted coffee. Yum!

It's fun to watch the color change from green to yellow to orange to a light brown.

As they roast, they become a darker color. My favorite roasting moment is here... first "crack". A few seconds later, I hear second "crack" as the moisture inside the beans heat up and they pop like popcorn. But they don't explode, they... crack.

They're starting to look like a light coffee roast, but as this is an "uncertain" blend, different types of beans roast at different speeds. That's ok. I don't mind. The coffee will still be good.

The beans are beginning to turn that signature dark brown. I like mine lightly roasted, not burned, so I have to be careful here not to over roast them.

They are beginning to smoke and this is a sign they're about done. If I wanted them "French Roast" (which means BURNT) I'd keep them cooking, but instead I take them off the heat and end the roasting process. I spritz some water on them to stop them from cooking any further.

Putting them in a small glass jar, I see just how small this batch is, enough for one cup of coffee. It's best to let it cool and rest for at least 9 hours, so I'll cool these down and grind them tomorrow for my morning coffee.

A light roast, uncertain blend, enough for one cup. Grind it up fine, pour-over coffee. Yum in the morning!

I'll report how 2 year old coffee (freshly roasted) turns out! Judging by how it smells, it'll be excellent!

Have you ever roasted green coffee beans before?

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.

Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books. I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

Bank Bailout Special!

It's happening, folks. The banks are going under! To educate our children about what is going on, there is a "Bank Bailout Book Bonanza" going on with the Tuttle Twins! Use coupon code FORTY for 40% off your purchase! Check out the books here.

I have never roasted any coffee beans. In fact, I have never seen any coffee bean roasting session. It's the first time I've seen this from your post.

So, all these beans for one cup of coffee only!! What is the next step? You will grind those into powder with a blender machine?
