A morning walk along the alley leading to the sea coast at the height of the resort season was always a lot of impressions during my childhood. After all, there, along the edges of the sidewalk, there were many tables with various souvenirs made from gifts of the sea and lively traders who tried to sell them to relaxed and unwary tourists who wanted to bring home, after a vacation at the resort, at least a small part of the sea.

For the most part, these were souvenirs made of large rapana shells, which, if pressed to the ear, made, as it seemed, the sound of the surf.

Probably, this imaginary noise was the most compelling argument for tourists then, to buy a varnished shell of a sea mollusk.

But, in theory, the shell of any mollusk, including the shell of a grape snail, can give the opportunity to hear the sounds of the waves of the sea.

And sometimes I see the empty shells of these snails.

A more realistic option is that the snail was found by a cat or a bird of prey, because French cuisine is not very popular in our area and if we consider the fantastic version, then, probably, the snail got tired of being satisfied with the imaginary noise of the surf and decided to see the sea with her own eyes and hear its real noise.

And, she left her house for a while, after all, when we go to a resort, we don’t drag our house with us :)
