Hey Actifitters,
Won't spend too much time on the day's activities yesterday because they were pretty standard, breakfast on the balcony, short walks with Sam and the usual. And most importantly, the evening was the event of the day with an outdoor opera: Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. You might have heard of this guy Hector Berlioz. Well, turns out he was originally from a small village not too far from my hometown, and every year they have a festival to honor him with of course many of his operas, but also other works. And this year, they opened the festival with this masterpiece Carmina Burana. They also chose a great venue for it, the 'Couvent des Carmes', a medieval site with a former convent. And so here we were, just before sunset, walking up the hill.

Sunset was a bit hidden behind the trees when we made it to where the stage was, but I still liked it.

Very interesting set with the ruins of some medieval castle.

We picked our spot on the lawn for the performance. These big speakers were partly on the way, but we were quite close from the stage with a good view of most of the musicians and singers.

And of course, a quick walk around the stage area and other medieval remains was a must.

It started to get dark and the Moon showed up. I was very happy to catch it through one of the openings on that big stone wall, but unfortunately you can't really see it. Still a beautiful Moon!

And finally the performance! Such a powerful piece, especially the O Fortuna intro of course.

We were very worried at the end of the second part when it started raining. Of course, they had to leave and protect their equipment. But they came back maybe 15 minutes later and this time the weather held and they could finish the performance.

The pyrotechnics was a bit surprising during the O Fortuna opening. First time I see pyro in an opera I believe, but what was most surprising is that the area is in the middle of a severe heat wave and dry spell. Wildfires can start very easily, but they are professional of course, and we can only assume they know what they're doing. Of course, more pyro when O Fortuna comes back to close out the shoe.

Well, that was a spectacular show! There's very few events my mother and I can both appreciate, so when I saw this show was scheduled just the day before I started my way back home, I immediately invited her with a couple of her friends. And I know they all enjoyed the show!
As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.

That's does indeed look like the perfect setting for any opera. I love that kind of outdoor Events. Unfortunately, we don't have much of them here. Rarely some theater pieces that are enjoyable. But mainly just shallow stuff. Happy for you! And a little bit jealous 😅
