Exhausting Climb of the Week... my training diary entry from August 6 2026

(edited)

(I took a photo of this rather poor Donald Duck graffiti during my 54-kilometer hike in late January. Perhaps the "artist" should practice a bit more before defacing any more surfaces.)

Hi Actifitters,

I started off yesterday with pull-ups. Using a resistance band, I managed almost five clean repetitions. Once I can complete the fifth repetition cleanly as well, I’ll start following the training plan, just as I do with the push-ups.

After that, I did some dumbbell curls and dumbbell rows before hopping onto my old bike saddle—presumably for the last time. The new one—a Selle Italia Model X Comfort Plus—was actually delivered last night.

Anyway, the "Climb of the Week" was on the agenda yesterday, and I decided to ride it at an average power output of at least 200 watts—which was pretty grueling. I don't think I've had a cycling session since my injury where I maintained that level of power for such a prolonged period. The following values show my training, including the warm-up, climb, and descent.

Duration - 0:47:33
Distance - 17.78 km
Elevetaion gain - 478 m
Average speed - 22.4 km/h
Maximum speed - 73.1 km/h
Average power output - 200 watts
Maximum power output - 339 watts
Average heart rate - 151 bpm
Maximum heart rate - 176 bpm
Average cadence - 81
Maximum cadence - 108

I would have been really keen to see what my numbers were just for the climb segment, but unfortunately, Zwift doesn't offer a filtering option for this and only saves the entire event without segments.

Mission 80 (Day 39 = 87.8 kg / Goal = 80.0 kg / Initial weight = 90.0 / Total loss = 2.2 kg)

All in all, yesterday was a strenuous training day during which I made sure to keep my calorie intake well below my calorie expenditure; as a result, I actually managed to lose weight again. The scale showed a full 800 grams less today than it did yesterday.

Since Garmin has been suggesting a rest day for a few days now and my training status has shifted from building fitness to maintaining it, I am going to follow that advice—at least in part—today. Once I’ve published this post, I’ll focus on close-grip push-ups. This time, however, I’ll stick to just push-ups and won’t add any other exercises.

I also need to fit in a short bike ride today. Since my new saddle arrived yesterday, I simply can’t resist; I have to at least try it out. I’ll keep the intensity in Zone 1, though, so as not to interfere with my recovery.
