From Grief to Chaos (Thanks, Haddock)
Yesterday, we said goodbye to our sphinx cat. He passed away peacefully, but not without leaving a huge hole in our hearts. As if that emotional gut punch wasn’t enough, today our fox terrier, Haddock, decided to throw in a little plot twist.
Somewhere between the tears and the haze of grief, a door was left open. And Haddock—named after Tin Tin’s loyal companion, but clearly with more wanderlust—slipped out for his own solo adventure.
Cue: total panic. One hour of driving around, yelling his name, alerting the police, and triggering a mini Facebook search party. I finally ditched the car and started walking every little lane, field, and driveway I could find. After another hour, I was emotionally drained and ready to give up.
And then, just as I was steps away from our front door—there he was. Trotting up, wagging his tail, eyes bright. Not a worry in the world. Like this was just his version of a therapy walk.
No workout today. No “steps goal.” Just adrenaline, grief, and one ridiculously clueless fox terrier who decided today was the day to remind us life’s still messy, chaotic, and full of unexpected reunions.

Maybe he thought you guys need time for your own grief and he sets out his routine (if he has been following you in all your trails) and had his own time processing a lost family member?
True… our other pets do grieve for him as well… they are also often still looking for him, or they want to lay on his blanket…
