The "after New Year" weather was kind of crapy on the first two weeks, and only after getting back to work things started getting better.
We did enjoy a few days at the awesome Paraparaumu beach, with amazing weather, 17-22 C degrees water (depending if you go deep or stay in the shallow parts).
On this beach, you can get quite far on medium to low tide...
The iPhone can take some great "macros"...
And after a few tries, I managed to pull an acceptable panorama, just to give you a sense of where I was taking the picture from. And this was not even the farthest you can get... water was under my knees still.
Some of you might have seen this picture already, but there you go...
But throughout all of January, I was still kind of looking for more. Maybe after the kids go back to school I and my soul can spend some alone time either somewhere road-tripping, at the beach or just enjoying the sun from the comfort of home.
So, in the spirit of looking for something more, this weekend I have decided to revive the fishing kayak (slow as hell, and I don't even use it to fish... π€¦ββ), give it a good wash and jump into the ocean!
The water was like a mirror, which is very rare for Wellington.
It provides perfect conditions for these kinds of things, as long as some boats or water jetskis don't decide to ruin the view.
Weather wise, it was not super open in the sun, but that was actually great because you can easily toast in New Zealand summer.
The wind eventually started after a while... and that "flat mirror" was gone.
Whenever you decide to Kayak you need to keep watch for the changes in weather (it can change quite quickly), especially wind, and make a good decision on which direction you want to go, in case the wind decides to push against you.
In the distance, there was quite a bit of rain, and because it was already blowing from the south, this was my sign to come back.
The rain was catching up... but managed to escape.
This was the trip.
I have bought an Orange Pi 5 Ultra. You can check its details over here.
The main reason for this version was the fact that it has LPDDR5 and the Rockchip (RK3588) looks a bit more beefier than the Raspberry Pi one (it has 4 extra cores of an A55, 1MB more of L3, plus an NPU and PCIe 3.0). So lets see...
For now, I have added some heatsinks (just to feel how much this thing heats, not definitive) and some legs. I have also bought a 256GB eMMC, so I should have enough to start playing with this thing.
It also has an NPU that I want to start discovering what things I can do with this thing.
If this thing has great potential, I already have something even beefier under my radar... and I only spotted this brand (Radxa) after buying the Orange Pi, otherwise, I think I would have ordered the Radxa version, which is more my stile...
https://radxa.com/products/orion/o6
I have a lot of testing to do on the Orange Pi, but I have a feeling that this thing (the Orion O6) would be an amazing board for a lower-power Full Hive node. But I need to first understand the latency of the memory to these CPUs (and if they can beat the Intel/AMD ones of intensive memory operations). For web stuff, I suspect these are faster, but let's see. More when I can!
If anyone out there has tested compiling Hive on ARM64, let me know... I know @gtg played with some really tiny and low-power Zotac board before, to which I found way later on but got me brewing about buying something very tinny too (at least for a witness).
Totally something just for fun, but because I got nailed by X and forgot to cancel my subscription for an ENTIRE YEAR!, I was kind of left with something without much value (at least for the time I have).
So, I decided to make up some value and change the strategy a bit to see if I could reach out to more people. For now, I need to tag along the people paying for Premium as I understood (although I suspect that X might change rules halfway again soon, once they release whatever "new way of paying users").
If you have an X account follow @forkyishere there, and recently @katerinaramm (katerinaramm1 on X) created the Web3 - Hive Blockchain community of which if we add more hive people into, it will have the following potential impacts:
You can post anything related to Hive inside (don't forget that you still have to obey X rules)... and in there I will follow everyone who is also on Hive.
Once I have enough followers, aka around 2k verified members (because this is a metric X says, good enough), and around 5k followers (3k not verified/Premium), I will change a bit the way of sharing things to see if it catches some fire.
IF I start to get paid meanwhile (I doubt it because I messed up last year), which either way is not an objective to me, then more "good noise" will exist. And my aim was always to buy HIVE with the X money, and when that happens I will use that as a show-off message in order to get people attracted to at least research about Hive.
Have fun, play games, learn, and when possible, teach new things to newcomers, showing them how interesting this place can be.

Photos! How fun =) Glad you got to the beach AND got into the kayak on the Bay. No wind in Wellington. How strange!! !LOL Nice that it lasted long enough for you to do a lap on the water :)

Yeah, I am starting to think photos are way more fun than just hard text... one day, you can just drop a bunch of photos into a post and the AI will just compile a story about it. I don't think it's too hard... and then a photo album can be also a podcast or an ebook all at the same time. Dreams! !LOL
By the way, most people might have no idea, but the "no wind part" was like... 30 min... so I had to be quite fast!

I think so!
Don't you think it will be a problem if everyone starts using AI on here to generate posts? Won't that compromise the community we have here on Hive?
!LOL I think those dreams. I think they're clever =)
Eeeek! Oh well, at least you got some quiet time in... and I get some vigorous exercise too :P

Greetings @forykw long time no hear from you, I will try to use Twitter more and register, it is still blocked in my country, participating as always in your initiatives, thanks

Been quite busy on all fronts. Sorry for not being able to check on more things. It has been erratic... both in personal and work life.
Any new learnings? What's your level of comfort with teaching others about Hive... and is that something you would like to do?
Rather than trying to channel you into a rabbit hole, what is something you would like to do in life? if you have to think about a full-time job and such... what do you see yourself doing in 5 years for example?
We don't support native build on arm, and I wouldn't really bother when there are N100 / N150 that can be used for easier builds, and I wouldn't bother with all the hassle of minimizing hived platform (more than I already did ;-) ) unless we will have a valid use case in space (putting it on startship etc.) :-)
Yeah, its mostly for fun for me.
π if this turns out to be crap, that idea of putting it on a starship looks interesting...
After reading your post I registered with the Hive community on X and will try to be active there as well

Its a slow, "almost" idle game, but I have a great feeling about it. Thanks for the support.
Glad you had a nice summer break and all the ATX pools are looking great! I will go and check my x account now!

This summer is cold as hell, you guys would have a hard time figuring out if it was summer or winter compared with the same time in there! Anyway, a few days here and there have managed to kill the bug at least. But I WANT MORE!
Thanks for the support on X!
I need to start paying some more attention to everything that's going on, I enjoy watching the buzz you're making over at X but I'm just too much of a !SLOTH to get involved. I seem to have a couple of days hitting it hard then go into nap mode for about a month before getting back to it! I guess for now I'll just need to keep stacking those ATX and hoping Hive moons by magic! Keep up the awesome work, looking forward to seeing the mischief you get upto with your new Orange!
I am not keeping my hopes to high yet... but it sure pumps me to play with ARM... especially because I have a feeling I will need to start working with it at work too.
Thank you!
So happy to be already at 40 members, I think our little community can be a way to share some important hive news but also to guide new users who may feel more comfortable sharing or asking things over there.
We will see how the community reacts-leads the way!

46 at the time of this comment... and yep, if we can gather some attention via that community, I think its worth the time.
I will keep doing my stuff while I can.
Hopefully those few good days made up for the rest of the crappy weather days. It looked beautiful though. πATXπ
I need more! WAY MORE!
Wow pretty nice weather you've been there, while we're here cold weather like we don't like to go near water lol. I also have an x account, I'll check this community there and follow this community.

Cool project, nice photos - glad we have now some communities on #Twitter or #X as well to talk about Hive. Seems i have to attend HPUD again while waiting for a pump.
LARYNX I totally forgot - need to check if i find the link again.
lol, it usually happens in my mornings/midday... so probably related to when Korea wakes up.
Happy to be part of the X community on Hive! πATXπ
I am almost finishing up replying to everyone, and letting the energy recover (from my LONG day)... and then I am going to go there for a couple of tries while I watch my YouTube videos.
Thanks for all the excitement and motivating energy.
I seriously need to visit NZ one day! It looks soooo amazing!! If I get to visit NZ, we should grab a beer at the ATX pub π»
Exciting with the new stuff. I hope it pan out as expected πͺπΌ

Around the 200-250 NZD... maybe it will get cheaper because its Chinese.
If it was today, I would go via the other brand I pointed. Just because for me the board makes more sense.
It's quite cheap that one... and it would be enough to run a full Hive node? Not that I plan to run one (it's beyond my abilities), but still it's something interesting to know!

Hi friend, I hope you are well, beautiful photos, it seems that you like good places, the beach and the sun. Congratulations.
Excellent your new project, I would like to be a programmer or study systems engineering, I am sure I can achieve it and be able to have those great teams that you have.
