Saturday is my most relaxed day of the week, after sleeping out until 7am... Yes that's sleeping out for me! 🤣
I started playing Splinterlands and got a cup of coffee and answered some calls for my breakdown service for work with customers in need of some assistance but it all could be solved by phone so that was nice.
After a late breakfast we walked to visit my mom and back, back home I did some small household chores and hang the laundry out to dry, when I was done with that my phone rang for another time, this time I couldn't solve the problem by phone so I had to drive out...
My daughter wanted to come along, she likes driving - as a passenger.
Just when I left my village there was a fairly big bird sitting on a lamp post above the road, it's an Aalscholver and it's quite common here, a pretty bird and it made me think of a conversation I had this week with @nanixxx.
I quickly solved the problem and after 20 minutes we were on our way back home again, for some reason birds is the main topic for today but this is quite a sad story, driving on the highway a priority vehicle was on the side of the road with orange flashlights so something was up... A peacock was standing 2 meters from the asphalt! Wtf! Peacocks are kept in zoo's so I wonder what it was doing there.
5 minutes later my wife called and I told her, she had just read about this on Facebook, the peacocks buddy was killed by a car and now the peacock I saw refused to leave its dead friend 😢 such a sad story!
The sun started to set and my daughter took some nice pictures, and guess what, another Aalscholver flying next to the road!

Hopefully my phone will be quiet the rest of the evening so I can spend Saturday evening with the family.
Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Oh… Shouldn’t you go and pick up that peacock and give it shelter at home? Poor thing. What will the people in charge of such matters do about it? Every day I’m more astonished by the things I see in this world. Yet the incident you mention led me to look into it a little… Who can say if it experiences sorrow. Science outlines possible ‘causes’: territorial behaviour and watchfulness, bewilderment at the scene and a search for meaning, or perhaps an urge to shield it from other creatures…
Hope you manage to make the most of the rest of your Saturday.
When we saw the bird, I told my daughter it's a 'Kraanvogel' in my language, a Crane in English (Balearica) but she told me it's a Peacock but it turned out I was right after all, there was a news article about it in the evening. It's still a sad story for such a beautiful bird.
The priority vehicle that was present probably waited for animal rescue to arrive and take it to a bird shelter or maybe the zoo where they escaped from I don't know.
How lovely it is! Yes, you were right. You seem to know about birds. The newspapers say it is a kraanvogel and described it as a hartverscheurend tafereel. 😔 Poor thing...
