Kensington Metropark - My Actifit Report Card: September 6 2026

Hey Actifitters,

After several days where house clean up and yard work were our main activities, we wanted to relax a bit yesterday. On top of that, I realized I was completely untrained for my half marathon this coming Saturday in Mount Rushmore. So Kensington Metropark sounded like the perfect place to combine some relaxing time and a test run, just to check if I still knew how to run and also verify a pair of new shoes fit well. So here we were sometime around mid afternoon on our way to the park. But because of the run, the game plan was different than usual: I would go running while my mother who's still visiting would walk with Kaia for a bit in the other direction, so I could catch up with them a little further on my way back. So we also parked at a different place, near the Possum Hollow picnic shelter. According to AI, that would give me the most hilly terrain, still a bit flat of course compared to the mountains of South Dakota for the race. Obviously I didn't want to run too much, less than a week before race day. I ended running 6.75km and 67m elevation (it's huge for Michigan!) in a decent 39 minutes, without pushing too much. And the shoes felt fine, no pressure points, or any unexpected pain. I guess we'll see what happens for the race... Note that running through Maple Beach when everybody and their mother are having bbqs with delicious smells, that was so tempting. I'm pretty sure somebody was cooking merguez sausages, it's very rare in the US, I almost stopped to find out who it was, and asked where to find merguez!
Anyways, after I caught up with my mother and Kaia, we were planning to walk a bit more. But Kaia needed a rest, it was much warmer than expected. So we stopped on a bench near the canoes and paddle boats small launch. Look at that tongue!

It was actually a good thing we stopped there because the view was pretty good too. It's on the side of the park I don't go very often, and it was nice for a change.

We walked around a bit, but to make it easier for Kaia, we took the car to make stops at other spots I like in this park. For those who saw some of my previous posts about Kensington, you'll recognize next the spot where we almost always start our loop around the lake. Just such a beautiful place along the lake. Kaia agreed!

It's one of my favorites for reflections. By the way, I kept some of my shots, and I swear this time I will publish in the reflections hunters contest...

I will also use this next photo for #AroundTheWorld contest. I often used this park for that specific contest, but not often in Summer if I remember correctly, and most likely not from this spot. It's nothing really special I guess but the contrast between the surprisingly green vegetation and the blue sky, along with the bright sun, I just like it.

Kaia was getting tired again, so we turned back soon after.

Our next stop with the car was near the East Boat launch. But first we walked along the sailing school area.

Even the seagulls were having a nice day apparently!

It was near the end of the day, because except for a couple boats still going out, they were all packing, and getting ready to call it a day.

And of course, we finished at my favorite sunset spot. Way too early for sunset obviously but that is still a very cool spot. Well, at least, I like it!

Well, that was nice and relaxing. A decent run, a few short walks, and beautiful views. Not bad at all! And finally above 10k actifit steps. It only required actually walking more than 25k steps but that's normal unfortunately. If I want to keep using Actifit, I really need to figure out a solution for this problem. But they never offered a single solution to try, so I'm not sure what to do. Oh well, that's something to check later.
As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.
