The rain was falling very lightly, but that didn't deter me from taking a nice walk into the woods near Guildford. I had several hours to kill so I took an unfamiliar path, it was a little sticky in places but the paths were mostly stony so not too bad.

After passing under the railway bridge, I turned left into unknown territory for me, very exciting 😀.

I was navigating by GPS with my watch and phone. There was a pond nearby so I headed in the general direction using the available woodland paths. I was not prepared for what I found! A very spooky place indeed!

The whole surface was covered in duckweed. I have never seen a pond this size completely covered before. An amazing sight and quite eerie too.

In places the water was encroaching on the path which made it look like a solid surface. Quite bizarre!

I covered about 3 miles in a little over 1½ hours. I felt very hot afterwards as due to the damp conditions I had to wear a hooded raincoat. A very satisfying walk nonetheless!

Wow, what interesting pictures you've captured. And when you visit unfamiliar places like this, the effect is often even stronger. You soak up the air, the atmosphere, and ultimately enjoy a satisfying walk, as you so beautifully put it. And the best part is that, thanks to GPS, we can always find our way back.
Yes, the experience was heightened by the dull sky too. The green of the duckweed appeared to glow!

You sure you weren't at Silent Pool ? 😱
No, I have only been to Silent Pool once when I was a child. I remember it being very clear and very deep too.
The smallish pond that I came across yesterday is out in the woods not far from the University of Surrey.
