Vinland Saga Episode 18 - "Out of the Cradle"

The conversation between Prince Canute and the priest in this episode is intense. The prince mentioned that Ragnar, his protector, loves him even in death. However, the priest disagreed, saying that Ragnar did not truly love him because he allowed 62 people in the village to be killed and did nothing about it.

Then, the prince asked, "If he doesn't love me, what is true love?" The priest pointed to a dead body and said, "That is love." He explained that a dead body does not steal, hate, or commit any wrongs. Furthermore, in death, the body provides food to animals and insects. It is exposed to the rain and sun without uttering a single word of complaint, decomposing and fertilizing the land. To the priest, death itself is the essence of true love.

He went on to say that the love shown by parents is a form of discrimination—no different from fawning over a king while whipping a slave. What an unbelievable answer!

According to the priest, the snow, the sky, the wind, the fog, the mountains, and the sun are all expressions of love; they represent God's creation. However, human beings have sinned in the past, which is why, according to the Bible, they were expelled from paradise.
