Hive Summit Day 3: Walking Borders, Cleaning Paths
Day 3 of the Hive Summit Aachen had a bit of everything—history, community, fitness, and even a haunted forest.
We started the day with a guided walk along the Belgian-German border, where @kreklow led us through stories that stretched from the World Wars back into centuries of history. He’s not only a great storyteller but also a talented comic artist, which made the past feel alive with humor and insight.
But this wasn’t just about walking and listening. Inspired by @masterswatch’s presentation from yesterday, we decided to make our steps matter twice: once for fitness, and once for the planet. Armed with clippers and plastic bags, we joined the #CleanPlanet initiative—collecting trash along the trails and roadsides. And while we did manage to fill some bags, what surprised me most was just how clean the forest actually was. It’s both comforting and a little baffling, but either way, it made me feel hopeful.
The mix of history, nature, and collective action hit me hard. It reminded me that community isn’t just about showing up for each other—it’s also about showing up for the spaces we share. And walking through an area marked by old minefields and whispered stories of haunted woods, I couldn’t help but think: maybe the real ghosts are just the leftovers we leave behind when we don’t take responsibility.
Thankfully, this group did. Big thanks to @detlev and his amazing wife @sunsea (whose cooking was legendary all summit long), @kreklow, @louis88, @rivalzzz, @dandegrischdine, @masterswatch, @globeglide, and of course, my partner-in-crime @nathalie-s.

I'm not sure which part of the #Cleanplanet initiative is the best... Doing it with other Hivians, cleaning the forest/surroundings, networking with others, staying fit, doing the walk, or those sweet memories that you made with a lot of smiling faces in the photos!
I'm glad to see that you had fun at the event, and I hope you are hooked on Hive meetups from now on... 😃 Unfortunately, I didn't make it to this one, but hopefully, I will attend the next one!
