People generally assume that if government offices aren't functioning properly on regular working days, certainly no one would be there on holidays. However, contrary to this belief, some government offices do assign staff to be present on holidays to handle urgent tasks that might arise from higher authorities; this is known as "turn duty."

At the beginning of each month, staff members are scheduled for this duty on specific holidays based on the month's calendar. Today was my turn. Although I have performed this duty many times before, the workload today was immense—far exceeding what I usually handle even on regular working days.

I have experienced significant work pressure throughout my career, but I had never encountered a situation quite like today's. The only positive aspect of the day was that I managed to wake up early and go for a walk.

While there is no direct material benefit to working on holidays, one becomes eligible for "compensatory casual leave" to be taken later in the month; yet, I have never availed myself of such leave. That is simply the nature of the work in my section: leave isn't available when you need it, so you end up taking it only when it is granted.

As for the rest of the day—a morning walk, a good meal at night, and a feeling of moderate drowsiness—that sums it all up.
