Domesticated plants

Every morning, I make coffee, grab my cup, and go out to the backyard. I look at the sky and the plants for a while and think about my day and my tasks. It's the time I need for my mind to wake up and my body to stretch. Walking through the backyard after a rainy night, I noticed that the plants were more vivid than usual. Spring is coming here, and this cold spell must not have been very pleasant for them.

I'm not the one who takes care of these plants, but my girlfriend does. She treats them as if they were her children: she changes the pots, takes cuttings, fertilizes and waters them daily. It's a continuous job, perhaps enjoyable, who knows... I prefer to just observe their beauty around the house. They bring more life and a kind of harmony that I can't explain.

These are some photos I took this morning. I find it fascinating how nature shapes everything, every living thing, and nothing there is by chance. Every shape of leaf, stem, and even thorn has an essential purpose for everything to work, for life to continue, to flourish.

Sempre pela manhã eu faço um café, pego minha xícara e vou para o quintal. Observo um pouco o céu, as plantas e penso sobre meu dia, meus afazeres. É o tempo que preciso para que a mente desperte e o corpo se alongue. Ao passar pelo quintal depois de uma noite chuvosa, percebi que as plantas estavam mais vívidas que o habitual. Estamos entrando na primavera por aqui, e esse período frio não deve ter sido muito agradável para elas.

Quem cuida dessas plantas não sou eu, mas minha namorada. Ela as trata como se fossem filhas: troca os vasos, faz mudas, aduba e rega diariamente. É um trabalho contínuo, talvez prazeroso — vai saber. Eu prefiro apenas observar sua beleza pela casa. Elas trazem mais vida e uma espécie de harmonia que não sei explicar.

Essas são algumas fotos que tirei agora de manhã. Acho fascinante como a natureza molda cada coisa, cada ser vivo, e nada ali é por acaso. Cada formato de folha, caule e até espinho tem um propósito essencial para que tudo funcione, para que a vida continue existindo, para florescer.
