I'm a Splinterlands player since September 2019, Splinterlands is my favorite blockchain-based game and to date I've played more than 36000 battles without using bots because Splinterlands is a fun game for me.
When there was the proposal to remove bots and battle helpers from Modern Format I immediately voted in favor of this proposal and even made a post to promote voting for it.
When the proposal passed favorably I was happy and I was also happy to choose to play only in the Modern Format because for me it is really no fun and it is also without logical sense to play manually in the Wild Format against bots more efficient than a Human.
The natural and logical consequence of my choice to play only in the Modern Format was the application of my strategy of selling a good portion of my Beta cards to purchase and upgrade Chaos Legion cards, which along with the Untamed cards were the only cards that were usable in the Modern Format and usable to play against real players like me.
My strategy was the logical consequence of reasoning based solely on play and fun.
If I did not enjoy playing against bots it was likely that other players like me who loved playing on Splinterlands would also make the same decision = sale of Beta and Alpha cards = loss of value of these cards.
After some time I can say that I implemented a very good strategy because if I had kept all my Beta cards without selling them now I would have many cards of little value and I would not have been able to have a competitive card collection in the Modern Format Gold leagues.
When the Rebellion set came out, the Untamed cards came out of Modern Format due to the rotation mechanism.
On that occasion I implemented the same strategy that I had applied for my Beta cards and sold a good portion of my Untamed cards to buy Rebellion cards, Rebellion packs and Wagons to participate in Conflicts.
At the same time I tried to make my readers aware of the negative effects caused by the presence of bots in the Wild Format. The problem of bots in the wild format turns a useful rotation mechanism for new players into a counterproductive rotation mechanism for new players and also a disincentive to purchase cards and packs of cards from new collections.
I love playing on Splinterlands, and because of that I only get attached to the cards I use in the game.
But I still don't understand why no action is taken to change the current split between Wild Format (bots and battle helpes allowed) and Modern Format (only real players allowed).
Creating a league just for bots is really such an impossible solution to implement?
Those who use bots can use all cards from all collections, those who play and want to play manually cannot!
Why should a real player who loves playing on Splinterlands and gets attached to his cards because he uses them in battle have to be forced to sell his cards every time they come out of Modern Format if he wants to continue to have fun and be competitive only against real players like him?
I like many of the new features thought up by the Splinterlands team and @yabapmatt for the release of the new set of cards.
I especially like the part of the new SPS Governance Proposal in which there is finally an intention to provide new use cases to old cards.
I was also glad to see that I am not alone in thinking that the continued devaluation of old cards because of the bots in the wild format and because of the few actual current use cases is a big problem in terms of future prospects.
In fact, @gadrian, @costanza and other players have the same concerns as I do.
The goal of giving new cases to old cards is in my opinion the main goal to be achieved before releasing a new set of cards.
In my collection I have Byzantine Kitty level 3, one of the strongest and most versatile summoners that can be used in Wild Format.
I so longed to have this card in my collection, spent over $1K to purchase it and used it so much in my battles until it came out of Modern Format.
A card that had a value of over 1.5K$ is now worth 300$
But the main problem for me is not the loss of value but is the fact that I cannot use it in the game against real players like me unless I give it to a bot!
Without the bots in the Wild Format I would most likely have continued to use Byzantine Kitty and never thought of selling her and instead to increase my battle strength in the Modern Format I have repeatedly put my level 3 Byzantine Kitty up for sale at the lowest price for BCX without ever succeeding because the price keeps dropping.
After reading @yabapmatt's comments I want to be hopeful that this trend will be reversed.
And for this reason I have removed Byzantine Kitty and other of my old cards from sale on the market.
I will end this post by showing my last 3 battles won in Modern Format in which I have highlighted the Chaos Legion cards I used that, when the Arcane Card Set is released, I will no longer be able to use against real players like myself and will become totally useless cards for me.
Will I once again be forced to sell cards that I like and don't want to sell just because I enjoy playing manually on Splinterlands and don't like playing against bots?
This time I hope not!
In my opinion before thinking about releasing a new set of cards it is necessary to add new real use cases to the old cards and that is why I voted no to the Governance proposal active on Splinterlands.
If the big problem of the increasing uselessness of the old cards had been solved I would have voted yes but without solving this problem I see it as an auto-gol to release a new set ahead of time.
Splinterlands is my favorite blockchain game and I love playing it regularly in the Modern Format and I hope the Splinterlands team will add the new use cases to the old cards before the release of the Conclave Arcane Card Set otherwise I don't foresee a good sales success for the new set!
I hope I have given you useful information and thank you for taking the time to read this post :)

If you decide to invest in a Blockchain-based game you should always do so by your own choice, after making your personal assessments and after considering all possible risk factors.

Upvoted 👌 (Mana: 25/45) Liquid rewards.
i think this is also the reason why some quit playing splinterlands. spent so much then after a year you cant use those cards anymore. i will also vote against it.
Completely agree, Splinterlands is a beautiful and fun game but the problem of loss of use cases of cards coming out of Modern Format should be the priority to solve

I agree with you 100%! All my older cards have lost so much of their value and aren't nearly as competitive as the newer cards. Before creating a whole new set of cards to try and cash in on more sales (which is what they want, more cash) they should focus on fixing the problem facing our older cards that have lost most of their of their value. I've sold a lot of my older cards at a huge loss...

Thank you for your comment and I'm glad you feel the same way.
The thing I regret most is that the old cards have no use cases in the game but only when given to bots. Real players are the pillars of every web 2.0 and web 3.0 game and if new use cases are not created for the old cards fewer and fewer players (old and new) will buy the new cards.

I thought I was the only one who is actually sad about this. Imagine not prioritize the future of older cards and coming up with the conclave. I remembered when you were trying to sell the Byzantine Kitty for such a low price. It was one of the most Coveted summoner in the game, unfortunately things are no longer the same.
I'll personally say they should remove the disparity between modern and wild, card value should be something that the team is looking to bring back
Completely agree my friend and I hope I hope the team will think and do something remedial before the release of the new set

Yes it seems that the team can only make money by selling new cards. I'm not sure what value bots bring to the ecosystem, but if a set costs $5k then drops into wild losing all its value, I think there won't be too many buyers.
Yes in my opinion the current system that only penalizes real players every time a new set of cards is introduced is the real problem to be solved and if not solved it will not sell many cards

Absolutely! Older cards need some attention (other than the multiplier on land), or they will lose value as soon as they drop out of Modern, which would be a shame. Although, in the case of Chaos Legion, I'm not sure how much more value it can lose, it is already the step child of all core sets.
Completely agree!
The paradoxical thing in my opinion is that the old cards can only be used by using bots or accepting to play against botsincomprehensible choice in my opinion in a card game as fun as Splinterlands...
thanks for your comment

A presto e grazie

I love Splinterlands, I've always played manually too. I share the same idea, I myself had the crazy desire to buy cards for my collection especially Untamed, but with the rotation of these cards I sold at a loss and today it's very difficult for me to buy cards. Precisely for this reason of card rotation.
You've described the problem very well, the main problem is really the lack of in-game use cases for old cards because you either give them to a bots or you sell them and in a card game as beautiful as Splinterlands this is in my opinion a mistake

Same for me I have so many old cards, like a chain golem from my untamed promo, cant use that in modern. I notice I have lost your witness vote and just wondering about the reason and I hope I can win it back.
Hi @ctrpch
You are a great Hiver and you have growth goals on hive and so I have the highest regard for you but I only have 30 votes, recently a witness contacted me explaining his project and I decided to give him a vote and I removed you but only because I saw that you have posted little on Hive in the last few months and between a witness with whom I have connections and interact and a witness with whom I have interacted little in the last periods I choose the the first if I ran out of votes for witnesses.
After your comment I reviewed my witness votes which I generally reevaluate once a month and removed the vote for two witnesses so I could rechoose and vote for you ;)
Thanks for the vote and the feedback,I appreciate it.

Old cards are some which have good features and people remember and easy to win the game.
The problem on Splintelands is that the old cards can only be used in the Wild Format where there are bots, and I hope this will change in the future

Exactly, it's just insane how old cards basically get deleted entirely from the game. Aside from any earnings, it always should be possible to still have fun with all the cards that you own, their values should not trend toward the DEC Burn value which is just 0.04$ for most packs that cost 4$, and it should be possible to rent them out.
This indeed, I want to love the cards that I own but it's impossible right now.Do you actually manage not to get crushed by always swapping cards that move out of modern for the new ones? I have luckily always focused on buying cards off the market not playing into the entire pack buying and modern mode. I do feel many that still bought Rebellion will now skip the new set and I can't see many new players coming in unless there is a big green candle and some hype first.
I'm also voting no on this endless new card printing nonsense while old cards keep getting devalued.
I fear Matt means Land when he's talking about innovative ways to give old cards value again which I fear won't do much.
I'm glad we feel the same way.
Beyond the market value of the cards, the paradox is not being able to use the cards for fun, and this is in my opinion the main cause of the loss of value of the cards.
Those who get attached to the cards are real players and not bots but Splinterlands continues to protect bots more than real players but in this way it hurts itself because who would want to buy cards that they can use in game for a limited time?
Thanks for your comment

I have a similar view. I don't like the idea of a new set because it reduces the value of older cards. I have a lot of chaos legion cards and they are my main cards in ranked battles. It just doesn't make sense when they can't provide good value to older cards and those cards just seem more worthless now.
Completely agree with you my friend.
The most absurd thing, apart from the value of the cards, is that the old cards can only be used where there are bots and in my opinion real players should always have the possibility to play against other real players... I hope Splinterlands will notice this absurdity
Name one other tcg where cards are designed to lose playabilty/value over time, its completely the wrong strategy and should never have been implemented. The soution would have been a blanket ban on bots but instead they destroyed the economy in multiple different ways. There would have been no need for soulbound cards if they had done that. Glad I sold out most of my stuff a year or so ago...one of the few wise moves I've made in crypto lol.
Completely agree with everything you wrote in your comment.
I hope Splinterlands realizes how absurd the situation is whereby a player if he wants to use his old cards can only do so if he agrees to play against bots...
