Life before tech

The last 24 hours have been a really suffocating one as I had no electricity and no internet. The worst part was how I had a free day, so I didn’t have anything to do.

There was a windstorm right before a heavy downpour of rain, which caused certain accidents and electrical damages. The magnitude of the damage was very high, so the electricity company had to spend a lot of time to fix it. And by a lot of time, I mean 24 hours. And that was why I didn’t have electricity and internet.

What I went through and how I felt during that period isn’t even something I want to talk about, but it just reminded me of what I used to do before technology. I was fortunate to have been born by the time technology was evolving, so all my life, I’ve been around technology. But then, there were times I didn’t have access to it, and during those times, I used to crochet, draw, and do so many DIYs.

My parents were part of those people who were always careful about what they allowed their kids to have access to, so for a long time, I didn’t have a phone. Unlike how most kids had a phone at a very early age, I was spending most of my time crocheting. I made so many hats and skirts for my friends, and as I kept making them, my interest in crocheting also began to widen.

I even began heading clubs in my primary school and taught a lot of people how to crochet since my works caught a lot of attention, and almost everyone also wanted to be able to crochet.

Another thing I used to do before having access to technology was to draw. I wasn’t a fan of sketching, but I wasn’t bad at it. I remember how I used to take my time to bring certain things I thought about to life. And to me, the coolest part was always how my friends would try to emulate my steps.

For DIYs, they always made me feel so happy and proud of myself. You mean I made a whole decorative piece out of paper or curtains out of straw? That’s so cool of me. And I love the fact that my mom always made use of anything I created with my hands.

Now that I’m writing about these things, it’s now dawning on me that the only thing that has become a part of me is crocheting. I don’t even remember how to hold a pencil to make a sketch, and for DIYs, I don’t remember the last time I made anything myself.

Although it was nice doing all of these when I had no access to tech, I equally love that I have my hands on tech now. It has made it easier to do alot of things like contacting my friends and family across the world. And the fact that most of the things I need are now just one click away? That’s something I’m always grateful for and have no regrets about it.

@abenad...

I say the following phrase quite a bit... "Technology is great, when it works!". LOL... Technology is so much more than just our phones, TV's, or video game consoles. Like you experienced; our utilities are also a part of this technology. I'm glad you were able to make it through the experience!

You've got quite a talent with the drawing... something to be proud of! Crochet patterns I remember, from back when my Grandmother used to make my mom's work dresses. Listen... great post! I appreciate your taking the time to look "beyond" the prompt I'm submitting 🙏✌️

I know how it feels to be without an electricity. Anytime I don't have power in my gadget's, it does make me feel as if I am left behind, i do had that feeling's, that those times when i do not have the power, many important tasks will have been carried out.
Believe me, you are so good in drawing, I have been seeing your crocheting, but those drawings, are the works of expert.
