"The Boys of Summer" has also been performed live by Don Henley with the Eagles, and a version is included on the group's 2005 DVD Farewell 1 Tour: Live from Melbourne. Recorded in the key of F♯ major with a tempo of 88 beats per minute, "The Boys of Summer" uses a repeating guitar riff. "The Boys of Summer" is about aging and questioning the past, with a nostalgic theme of summer love and reminiscing about a past relationship. Also, the music video is as great as the song and I can say that it is one of my favorite music videos. The director of the video, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, did a really great job.
