"Ring of Fire" is a song recorded by American Country singer-songwriter Johnny Cash for his 1963 compilation album "Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash". Written by Johnny Cash's second wife, June Carter Cash, and songwriter Merle Kilgore, "(Love's) Ring of Fire" was first recorded by June Carter Cash's sister, Anita Carter, on her 1962 album Folk Songs Old and New. However, Anita Carter's version failed to become very popular. Afterwards, Johnny Cash made some changes to the song, recorded it on March 25, 1963, and released it on April 19, 1963. It became very popular after being featured on his compilation album "Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash". It was produced by Don Law. Source

"Ring of Fire" is one of Johnny Cash's biggest hits and one of the best Country songs. Most of the song is dedicated to a chorus that extends on the metaphor comparing the passions of love with a "Ring of Fire". Using the vocabulary of "falling in love", the song describes being burned, and the flames rising, as the person continues falling for quite a distance, but ends without any resolution to the situation, however, the song still describes the transformative power of love. "Ring of Fire" was one of the songs my father listened to the most, and even though it wasn't one of my favorites at the time, I would listen to it while my father was listening, and now it's one of my favorite songs, too.
