Last night we celebrated Purim, the 15th day of the 12th (or in this case 13th) month. It's a remembrance of the events recorded in the book of Esther and it's a great opportunity to review the story and eat yummy cookies!

After diner, my wife rolled out the round cookie dough. The children set up the projector and they watched "Esther". It's availble to watch online for free:

We make a special cookies called "Hamantachen" which is named after the villain of the story named "Haman". These cookies are named after his hat, which i suppose was a three-cornered-hat.

This cartoon version of "Haman" looks like a villain from a silent movie, with his thin mustache and pointy hat.

I found a good recipe online that made the cookie making very easy.

The children did a great job putting in the jam and folding up the corners to make triangles. They turned out great!

They also got eaten up very quickly, our family can go through a couple dozen cookies no problem.

Now that the celebration of Purim is completed, it's a 30 day count-down to the next big event: the week of unleavened bread!
