KEEPING A PROFILE

I live a fake life on social media so what? It's not my real life so why do I have to act like that's my real life? Please just let me do whatever I want to do as long as it gives me joy. That's the mind of most people as regards their social lives. Many people see the internet as a place where they get the opportunity to live the life they've always wanted.

InShot_20240228_234320489.jpg

I know that sometimes it's just hard to accept the truth of who we truly are but then no matter what, it's always going to be Who we are and trying to be deceptive about it won't change anything, infact most times it will worsen it. Before reading further, I'm not sure what your thoughts are on this but I want you to keep an open mind even as you read through this. There might be some things that may not be as you expect but be at least truthful to yourself 🥰.

While growing up, I saw a lot of things my age group were doing that I always envied them for but because I knew the truth about who they really are, I was able to advise myself not to engage in what they do. At some point I felt like I was missing out a lot on what my peers were doing but I knew that all of those things were just temporary pleasures and it was not easy abstaining from most of them.

I had days when I even get entangled in some of the things that I promised myself never to do and that was when I started surrounding myself with people that can talk to me and I can listen to them. I hated being corrected though but I still wanted those people around me so they can always put me in check. Doing that made a lot of things easier for me and it made some people think that I was doing so well for myself because I was never exposed to somethings that they were exposed to.

Part of the things I controlled was my use of the internet. I had access to it at some early stage of my life but then I still choose to get more understanding first so I don't get easily drown in it. Now I don't know too much about social media but I think I know just enough and that's fine for me. I'm someone that believes that the social media should be a place where we can and should live the most truthful life because there even if people judge you it won't hurt too much compared to when those around you do.

All my life, I've always tried as much as I can for people to know me for me both in real life and online. I want a situation when what I'm known for online is almost exactly as what I'm known for offline. One thing that matters to me most is my name. Just like it was on Facebook, the easiest way to fine your friends is if they have the same name as you know them online. If everyone were to just stick with the name people know them for offline, it would have been so easy finding your friends online.

InShot_20240228_234239013.jpg

But today, we see that people no longer love their own names anymore, they find delight in bearing a name that belong to someone else. For me I'd say this is more than enough to be judgemental but then like we will always say, people have reasons for doing the things they do so it is wrong to judge them. But then, it's not out of place to point out the wrong to them and help them try to change. They may see it as being judgemental but then it's just you trying to correct them.

With all of these in mind, it is totally unsafe for people to be judged by their life on social media because most of us are not genuine. Building a different you on social media only shows that you are trying to be deceptive and that is not a good thing at all. If only we all can keep a true profile of ourselves everywhere, life will be a lot easier for us all but that sounds almost impossible but I'd encourage anyone who gets to read this to be proud of who they are anywhere and anytime.

That's all for my response to the hiveghana's weekly topic on "SOCIAL MEDIA".

You got me at the introduction
I said ehhh who wrote this post for my girl until I continued😂

It’s actually funny that I also had to limit the use of the internet at some point in life because somethings my friends were doing were getting to me and they weren’t even good things
I just felt like I had to do some to be a big girl too.

And for the names, something funny happened
This guy went for an interview only for them to search for him and his facebook name was really profane and just like that he was told he’ll hear from them…and the rest was history

Hahaha 🤣🤣🤣, I know a lot of people might think the same too 😂. I'm glad you continued the read and know it was your girl 🥰.

Exactly! It was really endearing it wasn't easy at all but it pains me when people think it's easy to live differently but then at least we know it pains more in a long run 😊.

Yeah, I think I heard that story too, I felt for the guy but I didn't too because if someone had told him then to keep a true profile, he would have thought they were being judgemental and not minding their business.

Thank you so much for this beautiful contribution dear, we both do have a lot in common 😂

Let’s say my rich uncle takes me on a trip to Dubai tomorrow and you get to see my posts on instagram, but then you know fully well that I’m broke. what will be your first thought? That I’m living a fake life right. Most times we misjudged others because we think we know them way to well than they think we do.
Yeah people do live fake lives to impress others and that’s another sad part of life I agree with you a 100%. I also love your take on the part of judging people based on their social life being wrong.
I did enjoy reading your post especially the initial part.

Hehe, that illustration is good and I'd love to say that since know people already think you are broke and your uncle wants to take you to Dubai, why do you have to post about it in a way that people will be confused? If they are confused then it's your wish 🤣.

I'm glad you agreed with me on some things Chapo 🥰, it's a pleasure having you stop by

So I shouldn’t post because I’m broke and I’m having a good time?😂.
It’s more like a restriction imposed on me by others.

No that's not what I meant, you can post but then if you know more people will be confused why do it then? It will even look like you have pride well to me at least.

Like I said, doing it just for your happiness alone is not so wise, you should do things thinking about the consequences too. I'm not saying the consequences will be bad, but if you are just going to Dubai for a week and come back to your normal life, then make it look that way 😊.

Many people live a fake lives on social media, and we can not judge them just as you said.

I agree with you on the name aspect, I can remember searching for my distant cousin with her real name. Meanwhile, she had sent me a friend request with this account which has a different name and AI profile picture😂. It was both funny and annoying.

Greetings 🤗

Hahaha, I don't think using a AI pictures of you is the problem, the name is what is the problem. Even if I use the picture of my child on my profile, if my name is Hopestylist anywhere, you will still know it's me 😊.

Thank you so much for your contribution 🥰

A lot of people actually use false names on social media just to stay anonymous, they prefer separating their online life from the real one and that means creating a different personality online just to achieve their aim of having fun. I also agree that people shouldn't be judged solely by their social media profile, that alone doesn't give the full details of someone's personality and behaviour

The only sad part of hiding our profile online is that it creates room for being deceptive.

Thank you so much for your beautiful and thoughtful contribution Kushyzee 🥰, I'm glad to have you stop by ❤️

You are right, you can't judge anyone based on what is shown on the social media page because even though they have their reasons not everyone is honest about who they are and what they do. In as much as we have no right to judge anyone we can still try to help and make them know that they should love who they are both in real life and online.

You're are right dear. Some people really have very good reasons to hide their identities online but then it's still being deceptive and that is not a good thing. Those people only need the right people around them to make them love themselves and not mind to show that to the world.

Thank you so much for your beautiful contribution dear 😊

Many people hide behind "personal branding" which is not even the slightest bit true in real life. They live a world of falsehood and fantasy, trying to be who they think they are in the digital world, but living lonely lives so as not to be discovered. Nothing like being genuine, that's having the best personality, in and out of the digital world. #dreemerforlife

It's the last statement for me, no matter what nothing beats being your true self wherever you are found.

Thank you so much for your beautiful contribution 🥰

'trying to correct them' could be considered a form of judgement.

Definitely but it's only those that are wise enough that can listen to it even though it's a judgement.
