A visit to a nursery garden

NurseryGardenCollage.jpg

Last Saturday, I visited a nursery garden. We went to one which was close to our house. It's not very big, but we were not in the search for plants. We were looking for something to help us eliminate the aphids from our basil bush. For several weeks, we have been trying to remove the leaves affected and to remove the aphids, but it hasn't worked. So my husband was researching on the internet, and what he found that seems to be most effective is potassium soap.

So when we arrived, hubby went straight to ask for the soap, but I amused myself by walking around the garden and taking pictures.

Vivero_2.jpg

I liked the motivational phrases on some of the plants.

This nursery garden is quite small, as I mentioned at the beginning, but there were a few flowering plants.

Vivero_3.jpg

Vivero_4.jpg

Like these petunias. I love the purple ones. And now that I think about it, I have never had a bush of petunias on my balcony. I wonder if they are easy to take care of.

Vivero_5.jpg

They also had these white orchids. It was the only orchid plant they had.

Vivero_6.jpg

This chili pepper plant caught my eye. But it seemed a bit expensive, costing 12 dollars. Instead, the husband suggested that we take some seeds, and we bought a packet of chili seeds, which cost 3 dollars.

Vivero_7.jpg

I loved this idea of putting a tree branch hanging with several pots with succulents. I would like to replicate it on my balcony.

Vivero_9.jpg

I liked the car-shaped pots with succulents that they had on a table. They look so cute.

Vivero_10.jpg

Vivero_11.jpg

I love mini succulent gardens, but at home with Milo, I don't think they would last long 😹.

Vivero_12.jpg

Looking through the succulent pots, I suddenly spotted a tiny creature. You can see it behind the red pot in the corner.

Vivero_13.jpg

I approached carefully so that it did not hide. A small lizard that from what I have found on Google Lens was a Gonatodes.

Vivero_14.jpg

Vivero_15.jpg

It looked so colorful and reminded me of a toy lizard my son had when he was little.

In the end, we did not take the potassium soap with us. Among the use instructions, it said that the product had to be used with gloves and precautions to avoid contact with it. So we were afraid that it could be a danger for Milo. So if you have any home remedies for aphids, safe for cats, I would appreciate any advice.

And speaking of Milo, when we got home, he was waiting for us on the balcony. 😺

That's all for today. Thank you for reading.

Hello friend @coquicoin!... Well, the soap thing seems to be true, here my mother (and now I) have always used it to fumigate any plant with aphids, mom usually puts a couple of drops of vinegar and sometimes baking soda of sodium in the mixture, but God knows that dopne has removed those "additional ingredients"... I only use it dissolved in water and atomized, so far it has served me well...

Wow, look at the photos you took of that cute lizard!... I keep them here in droves in my yards (that same species) and I've never been able to take a good macro photo of them :(

That little $12 Chili plant, holy heavens!... :( Are those chili already pickled? ha ha ha :))

Good post, always interesting!... And Milo is becoming more and more beautiful!... Awww!!!

Happy day, thanks for sharing...

We have been told that the soap is effective, but we were afraid to use it because of Milo. The one they had in the store had a lot of warnings. I have been told to try a little dishwashing liquid and vinegar dissolved in water. I will try it and see how it works.

The pictures of the lizard were only lucky. I couldn't believe they turned out so well.

Outrageous, 12 bucks for that plant! Prices are crazy here.

Milo sends his regards. 😺
Thanks for your great support, amigo. Abrazos!

The flowers are so cool, I love that white orchid but the little lizard, that was a happy surprise, I've never seen one so colourful like that.

What a beautiful garden, it is small but has a great variety of beautiful plants. very nice petunias and white orchid. Beautiful lizard and your kitten too. I can advise you to make a solution with washing soap, which is very rich in potassium and is not toxic, when I was a child my grandmother used it to eliminate pests in plants. you can also make a solution with vinegar. Best regards

Going to a nursery is one of my pleasures, in recent years I have not been able to go because they are too far from where I live. Aphids are a pest, spraying with vinegar and water helps a little.

I also like to visit nurseries. Here there is an area that is my favorite where there are many, it is not very close but it is a good weekend plan.
Thank you for the advice. I'll try with some vinegar with water.
Saludos!

I love going to nurseries and wandering among the plants until I get one I like to buy. I have scheduled a visit to a nursery near my business to buy some succulents and cacti to go with Nano, a cactus that I got as a gift, I see him very lonely at home. I loved your photos and the vivid surprise that nature is diverse. A hug.

What a pity that the soap did not work for your plants and I did not know that its use was dangerous, dear friend @coquicoin, at the end of the comment I leave you a link on how to prepare soapy water for pests.
From the assortment of plants and all the types of beautiful pots I could see, it doesn't look like it was a small nursery. I am a fan of these places, I love captus and succulents.
I hope you can make this preparation and expose the aphids to your plants.
Have a wonderful day

Aphids can be very tough to control or get rid of. I don't remember what we did exactly a few years back with our tomato plants but I seem to recall that we mixed baking soda and dishwashing liquid plus water and sprayed the mixture on the affected leaves.

The nursery is looking nice. They have quite a variety of plants too.

I am going to try the dishwasher and baking soda. The bush is very leafy and it would be a shame for aphids to ruin it.
Thank you, sis 😊🌱

I hope it works, sis. Maybe test it out in a few leaves to see if it doesn't damage them.

Cool visit on this small nursery garden, especially with this little Gonatodes (I learn a word 😀)... I hope victory will be on your side against the aphids 🤞
Have a lovely day

Those pesky aphids are so hard to get rid of, they also take over in my basil, chillies and mint. Somehow they don't like rosemary, but destroy the other herbs and spread to some flowering plants as well. I've used dishwash liquid diluted with water but it doesn't last long. I must look for that soap.
I love the idea with the tree branch. I have one at home, we kept it from a felledd tree at the school across from our house, hoping Poe will use it as a scratch pad, but he's not interested.
Nice little nursery Eli🥰

Yes, aphids are a pest and hard to eradicate forever. At home, they don't like rosemary either, and oregano. But they finished my tomato plant and now they're stubborn with my basil.
Hope you are enjoying the time with your son and the new adventures. A big hug, Lizzie 🤗😘

Gracias, Super Ed!!! You are adorable 🌀 Let's see how it goes. I'll tell you later if I can get rid of the aphids.

Sidetracked eh? hehe. A lot of that these days? I haven't heard much from you lately. Hope all is well 🤗

Hello to Milo. She (or he?) is adorable. What a lovely little nursery garden you visited. I wish there's one near me too. I'd love to visit and update my collection of plants in my tiny container garden. Love the fun-shaped pots. Now, I do wish I have a bigger garden LOL! Thank you for sharing your experience. Happy midweek!

PS. I used neem oil spray in my container garden. It seemed to have help.

Yes, aside from gentle soaps/surfactants, neem can be very useful too, and for quite a few different things! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

Visiting gardens and nurseries is one of my favorite things, being the life-long plant freak that I am! I appreciate it as much for the plants as I do for the unique garden ideas that I often see. Any gentle soap (surfactant) should work for aphids. Aphids are a sign of stress, so they're not so much a cause of problems, but rather an effect. 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

I wonder what then is the problem causing those aphids? I don't know if because of the hot weather these days the plant needs more watering.
Thank you very much for the information. Cheers 💚😄

(Edited)

It might very well be the heat. Plants are adaptable within certain parameters, and if some of the parameters are exceeded, then the become stressed and often begin to decline. Extra water, and perhaps even gentle natural fertilizers, like diluted manure tea, could help. You're very welcome, absolutely! Cheers! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
