Cumana is showing the Way

Cumana is showing the Way !.jpg

I recently read the post for the latest proposal by @stoodkev and the Keychain Team which would allow the creation of new hive accounts in a much simpler way, using account creation tokens. I also went into their discord and found a very interesting link to a page called Keychain stores. This is a world map that shows all the existing stores that accept Hive and HBD as a means of payment.

This got my attention and I had a closer look. First I was disapointed not to find any shop in my closer neighborhood. To be precise, there isn't any shop in Europe that is listed on this website. There are for the moment 21 stores listed and the big majority (actually all of them) is situated in central in south America. There is a shop in Mexico, one in Cuba and 19 shops are situated in Venezuela!

Venezuela is taking the lead for the spread of Hive in real life payments

Who on Hive hasn't read a post or watched a video about Hive Sucre? Well this community is not only active on Hive, they are active in real life and implementing a real network of shops that accept Hive or HBD as a payment.

image.png
(source: https://stores.hive-keychain.com/)

In Cumana alone, there are about 12 shops listed on this website. Each read dot on Keychain-stores comes with the address and the website of the shop. It's definitely a great start and it seems that word of it already spread into the surrounding towns where some shops are listed as well.

Cumaná is the capital city of Venezuela's Sucre State. It is located 402 kilometres east of Caracas. There are about 425'000 inhabitants in this city.
(source: Wikipedia)

The power of the network effect

Trying to implement Hive as a payment service seems to be very tough in a landscape where hardly anybody even knows what Hive is. It's totally different however if you are faced with a base of active users in a close geographical context. If you know that many other shops around you already use Hive/HBD and that plenty of people actually own hive and have the keychain app on their mobile devices, then the decision to implement Hive/HBD in your shop becomes much easier.

The people who push Hive in Cumana do an amazing job because they managed to reach a certain threshold of shops and users that adopted hive. From here, I suppose that it becomes much easier to actually onbord more people and more shops. Once the initial effort is provided to created a basic network and a minimum adoption, I believe the expansion will go on automatically. I can't evaluate whether in Cumana this threshold has been reached already. If yes, how long will it take for the surrounding towns to jump on the wagon and do the same?

I believe that this is a great example how hive adoption can be pushed. Encouraging the adoption of a small community and onbord people in a relatively closed location. Get some shops on bord and then work on getting more.

When as a shop owner you see this community growing, you want to have their business and that's why a shop owners has a big incentive to adopt Hive/HBD, the bigger the local Hive community becomes. I believe that there will come a point, where the movement spreads by itself.

A great tool with no costs

Hive Keychain is a great tool for small shops. It allows the payment in 3 seconds without any costs. You get a stable coin linked to the USD that you can swap for hive if you want to. Especially in a country where inflation is bad like Venezuela, this can be a game changer. Then you can actually let this money work for you in HBD savings or as Hive Power.

I believe that the best for Hive would be if the „plan“ for Cuman was applied to other geographical locations in the world. This could help to spread this great blockchain in a way that no other crypto project has been able to affect real life business.

It's quite a good plan I believe. If they manage to reach a threshold from where adoption is spreading by itself then it can only grow in this region and maybe spread to other regions. If we had such local hot spots in several places worldwide, I think it could be a real game plan :-)

Thanks for the update. It looks like HBD is really useful to use there. The guys on the ground are doing a great job. I wonder what the turnover is like.

What I like about this project is that almost every transaction and every shop that is part of the network is translated in a post on hive. What better way to spread the word and to finance your shopping :-)

It would be nice if we could have this all over the world. Of course I would be happy to pay with HBD.

It's today in Cumana, maybe tomorrow in Sucre, later in whole Venezuela and from there it's a matter of time when it spreads. Let's hope for the best :-)

Great thoughts about scaling up and spread HBD as payment to other places as well Achim, and it's quite fantastic to see how it grows in Venezuela, thanks for sharing and stay awesome.

In Cumana there doing a kind of pilot project that could be reproduced in any part of the world. The experience collected there is very important in my opinion.

The stores that accept HBD seems to be quite small but at least they are starting to grow. I think it's growing quite well in Venezula.

I don't really know how much these stores represent in the economcial tissue of the region but I think that it's a great start and hopefully they will manage to expand it even more.

Interesting information you showed here. I hope we'll have some form of local adoption of this from where I am too. I think it's a great way to onboard more folks to Hive. I dream of having a small community IRL that will use Hive and ALIVE community too -- real life use case :D happy midweek!

It would be great to create more hubs like that. I belive that we each could try to start something like that around us and try to expand it from there. I think that hive has one big advantage over other crypto because it's compatible with Real Life needs and that could be one of the best selling points.

Hive and its assets (both layer-1 and layer-2) have more use cases than any other blockchain that I know! What @hivesucre is doing in the state of Sucre can indeed be replicated anywhere, but it would require a group of passionate hivers in one place to coordinate focused community outreach, education, and onboarding. 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

Honestly, I had no idea about those taking more steps in the direction of implementing Hive and HBD as payment methods in real life, which makes me feel ashamed. But both the blockchain and the world need more of this for sure.

Hello @achim03 , congratulations, I saw you at the top of the hive tags, I think that the femonemo that occurs in Venezuela is due to several factors.

  1. the possibility of gaining some customers, we could think that all stores in the world have this incentive and it is like that but in Venezuela you can skip the cons, such as taxes and payment to an accountant who discriminates cryptocurrency payments so that everything is " legal"

  2. The constant search for a currency that is not devalued daily, in a country that does not have problems with its currency implies additional work to obtain HBD (make the purchase transaction) additional work that does not make much sense because unlike Venezuela and Other underdeveloped countries know that having 100 dollars, 100 pounds, 100 euros, etc. will have a small variation but they will be able to buy the same thing now or in 2 weeks so they have to do the additional work of changing them to HBD and then pay with them with the same purchase value as your coins?

  3. Growing communities, in Latin America hive can be an important source and perhaps in many cases even a main source of income, commenting that in a month you could earn $200 working in hive instead of earning $100 in a regular job is an incentive giant for that community to grow but that cannot be duplicated in the developed world.

I think that although it is a good marketing idea, it is not scalable, you cannot maintain a cycle that someone buys a public pizza and earns to buy another pizza, if it is about selling that we reach the ones we talked about in a post previous many will be disappointed because they will not get the votes to continue consuming HBD in establishments and will leave, I believe that the search for adoption should focus on what makes most cryptocurrencies unique and that is how “decentralized” by a court order a bank centralized would have to stop all your funds, having HBD they cannot block them, additionally you have the possibility of providing services or products worldwide receiving payments without fees or intermediaries, with this I do not mean that what happens in Venezuela is not useful is It will surely be useful in several other countries, but not in most.

Changing the subject, I wanted to ask you , are you ready for the release of LAND? I have some lands but I was looking to change because I don't have the ones that give me the greatest bonus (with the cards that I will put to work) suddenly we could change some, of course of the same rarity I only have commons hehehe.

Greetings

Thanks a lot for your great comment. I also think that it's not that easy to reproduce the phenomen in Venezuela in developed countries... for the moment. Because even here, inflation is beginning to be a real problem.

Hive offers a real store of value for people in inflation plagued countries because as you say, your purchasing power will be more or less the same with this money. Also I agree that making peer to peer direct decentralized transactions allows to go around a lot of problems for people in countries where the government isn't really your friend...

For land, I have only 4 plots and I have honestly not looked too much into it. I'm waiting for several years now and I will get into when it's finally out :-)

I've been following what the @hivesucre team in Cumaná, Sucre, Venezuela have been doing for a while now, and I've written about their incredible successes there. While the Hive Keychain app only mentions a few, they've actually already successfully onboarded 60+ business to accept HBD as valid payment in Cumaná already.

This was all done through focused community outreach, education, and onboarding, and it is a model that can be followed and implemented anywhere in the world. Passionate Hive people is how it begins!

Thank you so much for highlighting @hivesucre's huge success! More people need to know about what's possible! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

I didn't know that so many businesses already made the step to accepting HBD. That's great to know and show even more that the threshold seems to habe been reached where the movement grows by itself. It would be great if this could be reproduced in other parts of the world.

Yes, and they've been doing it quite quickly! From the time when I first learned about them, to the time when I wrote a recent post about their successes, they had already onboarded another 10 businesses! In this region, the snowball effect has definitely kicked in, and I really look forward to seeing how it spreads to neighboring regions and to other areas around the world! Super exciting stuff! 😁🙏💚✨🤙

It's amazing to watch the roots Hive has grown in Latin America! It helps that they all speak the same language (except Brazilians). And yes, what happens in Sucre shows us how powerful HBD can be if its usage grows in a small geographical area.

The concept of a local adaptation and spread seems to me pretty amazing. In Venezuela I believe that HBD offers a real store of value against inflation and a way to avoid having to deal with banks and officials. It would be amazing to see such movements spread in other parts of the world

It would be amazing to see such movements spread in other parts of the world

Yes, it would, and I expressed similar thoughts some time ago. For whatever reason though, I don't see something similar replicated, although I watch other localized communities trying different things in different parts of the world. I think it also depends on who onboard these people and how they guide them initially. It also depends if they are close together locally or if there are vast distances between them, and also on the local culture.
