(this is the #36 giveaway enabled post - check the giveaway details below)
Hi everyone, and welcome back to another month. This month is always packed with stuff and very little time to have fun. Schools start in NZ, my car usually has problems around this time, people decide to do stuff, and so on.
It has not yet ended, but next week will go quickly for me, so I am considering it a DONE month!
I have decided to include the inverted picture (on the right), of the amazing Blue Origin, New Glenn rocket launch 1st stage nozzles, back in January already... π
The number of things happening in 2025 is already overwhelming, especially if we consider all the Trump stuff that I won't delve into.
Hive wise, things dropped almost 50% since the beginning of the year, but that does not bother me at all. There are a lot of things planned for 2025, and I am just taking advantage of the lower prices as much as I can (not financial advice, DYOR).
From the last HPUD announcement, you may have seen my idiocracy of trying to expand my reach on X, which I am getting very tired of (to be honest) like it happened last year. It depletes completely a person to be trying to use those idiotic strategies to reach "momentarily more followers" in order to then have bigger reaches and start to create a social bond with the followers.
I am just playing dumb because I can... not because I want to. But idiots apart, I think I have reached a few people already, and slowly having more reach is actually causing good positives. So, I am continuing the effort when I can, and when I have the patience to do it. If you think I like it, you are seriously ill.
Anyhow, I have got a couple of people trying to find out more about Hive, and recently the most successful one that I am going to feature here is @finpulse. I am enjoying letting him find more about Hive, at his pace, when he can. Which is exactly how I see the best way of doing it...
I am not going to give up "ever" on onboarding and helping ANY Hivien user to learn more from what I know. Including all those good things about "also" verifying what I say. I am not perfect, I am a person.
And by now I have lost 50% of the readers LOL... no worries, lets get to pictures shall we?
Disclaimer: If you do this, please understand that you are at your own risk. After doing this, I cleaned the phone with drinkable water and then dried it well. I also didn't leave the phone in the Sun after dipping it in the salt water to avoid deposits of salt in areas that afterwards are difficult to clean. All these reduce the chances of failure but aren't 100% risk-averse.
February was/is usually where the best "Summer" days in New Zealand are, and on days when the sun shines, everyone gets outside. I am no exception, and so I had touched (several times) the water!
What I didn't do for a very long time (because honestly, we forget these things) is that the iPhone 13 is actually, let's say, "water dippable". At least for a wee time. It's IP68, so, as long you don't abuse in crazy pressures (like throwing the phone against the water surface) and avoid long periods of exposure underwater, it should be fine.
But depending on how old your phone is, the membranes that usually protect the micro and speakers, might allow liquid to pass and if so, you will get rust from the salt water. The older your phone is or the longer you leave it under salt water, the more risk you will have. So, please take that into consideration before following my steps. In this case, mine is only 3 years old, so not yet too bad to risk doing these things.
Anyhow, this was great to see if I could capture some underwater pictures. You can barely see the school of small fish. The focal distance underwater is super small... so that's what I could get.
Hey, fishy fishy fishy ... π
See you next time fishy!
When you drop next to close footage, the image gets quite great! I had taken more photos, but most of them were crap, because they would auto-focus on the little debris of things floating in the water due to the mega-short focal distance of phones.
Still a very nice photo in my view. And you can spot some "Common periwinkle" in a very short distance... for context, that's about 20-30 cm from the phone.
One of my sons needed a little upgrade, and we swapped parts around the house as usual. So, I gave him my Ryzen 3 3600 (Zen2) and I bought a Ryzen 7 5800X (Zen3) to replace mine. This was mostly because we didn't want to buy any additional memory and buying a 5950 now would be stupid (and still very rare and overpriced in the NZ market). And mostly because I couldn't wait... due to schools starting.
This raised the base frequency a bit (plus boost clock) and added 2 more cores into the mix. Enough for my experimentation, gaming, etc. Also, power-wise, this one consumes a bit more, so I had to throw a bigger cooler too.
Frankly, I did not want to spend more money on this old PC, but because buying a more recent one now is not in my queue, this should allow me to wait a bit longer before I buy the big core+memory AMD that will replace the 14900K, and I will use this old one for other stuff (like backups, etc).

I believe I have already stressed in a couple of places, that my new favourite explorer is this one π (picture above). I took a print screen when my node (@atexoras.witness) produced a block, just for the picture obviously.
UI's is not my comfort zone, but I threw a suggestion for improvement based on what I see in the output of the hived node that could be used in the explorer view.
In specific, I quite like this "mempool" view of the #Bitcoin blockchain. So, if anyone wants to take ideas from that and help with any MR to the Block Explorer UI project, here you go. OpenSource stuff means anyone can help (I know, including myself, but I am not sure if here I can be of much help). Plus, due to my IRLW, time is limited and does not allow me to have large periods of concentration (which is only when I can focus on this kind of stuff).
Very recently, I discovered (via @libertycrypto27 post) a very interesting project that @LivingUKTaiwan released. It's called Apis Hive and I think this project has great potential to capture and motivate lots of web2 people who are either initiating on Hive or need an excuse to keep coming every day to check things out. By doing so, there are larger chances for those new Hiviens to keep interested in the discovery of the rest of the platform dapps, potentially improving the retention rate.
Make sure you read the FAQ and the gamification rules so you understand the motivation. But don't rush... you have time! You can claim once per day (max) so that should give you enough time to read and learn how it all works.
If you fancy a guided post with some excellent explanations, feel free to check @libertycrypto27 post here.
Not much progress on its exploration since last month's post, but I have already made some great use of it. It can run easily a Hive-Engine light node and the VSC node (JS version), and probably every more stuff.
This time I managed to test the performance of the 2.5Gbit interface... and looks solid enough to me!
I have also recorded power consumption for a few moments just to give you an idea.
OnDemand (idle): 2.5 W (no fan)
OnDemand (idle): 2.7 W (fan)
Performance (idle): 3.0 W (fan)
OnDemand (startingHE+sync): 3.6-4.9 W (fan)
Performance (startingHE+sync): 4.5-5.1 W (fan)
The next stuff is to try to play with some "SATA disks" using an adapter I have, SAS disk via USB3, and anything else I find intriguing.
Not really sure yet what can I do with the Mali-G610 MC4 GPU and the 6TOPs NPU unit... but if you have any ideas, let me know.
Have fun, play games, learn, and when possible, teach new things to newcomers, showing them how interesting this place can be.
@forkyishere π (@forykw dark side) is a character I created, which emerged from Crimsonclad imagination π while dwelling over the dark dungeons of Discord chat levels.
Follow for #news about the #HIVE #Blockchain, and other stuff. I sometimes get crazy with what happens around social media. I am following all HIVE users! No promises of behaviour. π
In addition, if you are looking for a nice place to either reach out, share or just have a great time, come along to @atexoras.pub gatherings. We welcome everyone on the blockchain.

Nice article, we're voting for you as witness, you have to grow as much as possible to get to the top! A greeting!
π I have been falling a few places in the last year yes. Haven't done much scanning around other witnesses healthiness, but once we HF28, I will give a good go.
Thanks for the vote.
Sooo much information π
What caught my attention most is the power consumption of the ATX pi 5. That is next to nothing!
Some great updates as usual ππΌ
The apishive sound like it deserves a checkup π―

π I am trying to limit my posts to 10 min reading max... I think that's quite a balanced amount.
The PIiiiiiiii stuff is amazing! I am so pumped to try justify something else I already have on the horizon! But first, more playing around.
It certainly seems amazing ππΌ
Even makes me wanna go into that - just not quite sure where I would find the time at the moment π€¨

Just a word of warning regarding dipping your iPhone underwater for shots. If the phone is older or slightly degraded, beware of the waterproof sealing not being in its original pristine condition! I learnt that the hard way when my older (supposedly waterproof) iPhone decided to drown trying to take some shots underwater. π€£ πATXπ
I can't help but admire your effort: I tried but I can't find the will to try to build something on web2.0... too scard of losing my time without getting nothing back :/
!LOL Well, still having half the readers still reading wouldn't be that bad π€£
I've seen it too and I like it a lot: gamification imho is something that can help a lot solving Hive users' retention issue, as lots of people love unlocking achievements, getting unique badges and being rewarded for that, so it's definitely a nice addition! Hope it get some traction.
