Simplicity is not a common thing in the world today; it’s a rare commodity because so many things happen in and around everyone’s life at once. With the world on autopilot, we are often exposed to excess information, distraction, and expectations that eventually leave us overwhelmed and confused, causing us to live without focus or purpose.
Amid all this physical and mental chaos, it’s a blessing to still have a way of maintaining calmness in every aspect of our lives, and that’s through embracing simplicity. But like I mentioned earlier, it’s a rare commodity among us today. So many people keep moving at the world’s pace, jumping on every trend, getting lost in the distractions and clutter. We’ve forgotten how to hit the pause button, ensuring that we get the time to reflect and connect with our inner selves.
I understand very well that there are misconceptions about simplicity and would like to briefly clear them. Adopting simplicity doesn’t just end with decluttering our physical space; it extends to our mental and emotional space. It’s not about deprivation like many people imagine; it’s about being able to focus on genuine relationships, passion, growth, and our well-being after letting go of the clutters in our lives.
Let’s paint a picture of living deliberately and intentionally. Living in the moment, creating beautiful experiences, opening yourself to new possibilities and perspectives—all these things bring joy, fulfillment, and a deeper sense of purpose to our lives. So what’s stopping us from embracing simplicity in reality?
If embracing simplicity has worked for me this far, I have a strong belief that it can work for anyone too. It started for me at a younger age and it improved after learning about minimalism. My initial focus was about simplifying my physical space, but minimalism made me realize that there was more I could simplify beyond my physical space.
Let me begin with my teenage years when I got to know that studying in a decluttered space helps me assimilate properly. I find it hard to study in a public place due to distractions, and it’s not just human distraction. Seeing things lying around unnecessarily or having my space cluttered always interrupts my focus. Understanding this helped me to stay on track with simplicity. I knew what environment best helps me to assimilate or be productive, and I invest more in simplicity, which boosted this thing about self-awareness. It kept getting better, and I developed a better understanding about myself.
As time passed, my days became less stressful, and it helped my health a lot. I started having more time to rest and engage in craft, which I enjoyed a lot. I was so happy, and after looking deeply at what changed, I realized that from having my space simplified just to improve my clarity and focus while studying, I have fewer chores to do at home. It became clear that engaging in too many chores at home while still having so many things to do wasn’t helping. I looked for a way to cut down more chores, and I got a lot of free time to explore other things I had always wanted to create time for.
After learning about minimalism, embracing simplicity went from just physical to helping me mentally and emotionally.
One experience was how I struggled with emotional baggage for years. This baggage stole away my sense of appreciation, especially for myself after any achievements. My life was all about proving someone wrong, but when another minimalist counseled me, I saw the need to live for myself by putting all emotional baggage away. It was then I realized and saw my progress in life. It was then I could appreciate my efforts, and it motivated me to continue winning, not for anyone but myself.
I learned that self appreciation was good boost for me to keep moving and this discovery wouldn't happen if I didn't simplify my mental/emotional space.
What am I driving at? Embracing simplicity gives room for you to always stay connected to yourself, which helps with a deep reflection that can make you understand yourself better.

A thoughtful and relatable reflection. Your journey shows how simplicity can truly transform both outer and inner life. Inspiring read!
It has a double impact if we are really determined to embrace simplicity. The impact of minimalism is always huge on us except we hold back with the practices.
Good thought there. Simplicity at its peak. There are times when all we need is just self reflection and then we get to put things in place.
We can make so many positive changes to ourselves with constant self reflection but it would be difficult to do when our lives are not simplified. Excessive clutter can hinder that thorough reflection we need.
Emotional baggage is the worst feeling ever and it takes only people who can understand themselves and appreciate themselves that can come out of it at then end.
Am glad you got out of it now because such feeling can cause depression for someone if care is not taken
Harbouring it can wreck an individual physically, mentally and even emotionally so it best to let it go for our wellbeing.

This is a thought filled piece on reflection and simple things. As much as it has been misinterpreted, being simple doesn’t mean you lack things but you just know what matters to you.
Simplicity definitely doesn't mean deprivation and it's awesome how it helps us stay focused on things that should really matter to us.
