ClaimThe.Earth: Info and Invite

On August 11 a new website was launched by Welshman Gary Piazzon. In the two weeks following it has developed a growing group of adherents, Myself included.

The premise is very simple. The whole globe is divided up into hexagons of about 300 square-metres. Players can claim a square by going to it, and claiming it on the website - and this is website only, no app at this point. You can upload a picture if you wish. Once claimed, that hexagon cannot be claimed by anyone else, ever (though Gary has advised that location spoofers are booted from the system and their claims returned to open status.

So far, unsurprisingly, take up has been biggest in Britain, though various European countries are catching on and there are players in many parts of the globe as the following pictures show:

All the green are hexagons I have claimed over the last nine days ( the loop of different colours are today's additions) - when I first discovered the game. I'm averaging 300 hexagon a day, which is keeping me up over 10,000 steps which is good for my Actifit logins.

I've even got some claims from where I'm on the ferry, and a few when swimming - though that is tougher with the waterproof case on the phone not always making tapping for the claim easy.

About every 25 claims you have to take a picture, I have many uninspiring shots of domestic streets, and a fair few of cats and trees.
