My Actifit Report Card: June 28 2025

Yesterday was a good day. Nothing much happened, but I took half of the day off and I went to rest, relax, recover, and then when I thought I was ready, I took my bike and I went outside.

I was scheduled to meet a nursery owner who was shutting down his nursery because there was hardly any business going on right now. So he was shutting down and he wanted me to buy all of his stock.

I went to his nursery, took a look at the plants and then I sat down to talk with him. I gave him my price and for some reason he did not agree with my price and the deal wasn't done.

Running a business is difficult. Running a nursery business, where you grow plants and then you sell them, is much more difficult than people think about.

There's so many things that we need to take care of. The plants, buying new plants, growing them, taking care of them, giving them fertilizers and all those things, and at the end you hardly get anything.

And this is frustrating to a lot of nursery business owners, so they end up shutting down their business.

This business was running for about 10 years or a little bit more than that. Unfortunately, things changed and they started to lose customers.

There are many reasons why they started to lose customers but at the end they had to shut their shop. It was a really profitable business for them and when I met the owner he was so sad that he had to shut down his business.

He almost had tears in his eyes and he was trying to hide his disappointment, his resentment, his anger, frustration from me.

One of the major reasons why this business failed is because consumer buying patterns have changed over the last decades.

People used to buy uh stuff from retail stores. Now they prefer buying stuff from online stores.

Amazon, Flipkart, and many other big e-commerce websites have started to sell plants and almost everything on earth and this has hurt a lot of businesses.

Small businesses, mostly mom and pop kind of businesses and at the end if they are young they go and you know get a job and if they're not able of getting a job they just live on whatever savings they have left.

I wonder how long my business will survive. It's been two and a half years since I started this business and it's going okay.

I'm not very profitable, it's not making me rich, but I'm surviving. And some days I think, how long will this business survive and what will I do after the business stops making profit?

It's a bad thought that makes me uneasy, but it's a reality. We always have to have a plan B and make sure that we have something to do if things don't work.

Anyways, I don't want to think much about that. I want to just work. I want to think of strategies that will help my business and eventually make it last as long as possible.

In the evening, I was at the nursery and I was just sitting there watching something on Netflix when another nursery owner arrived.

He's a good person. I meet him often. Recently, I had bought some stuff from him and he had came to, you know, discuss stuff about the business and other stuff.

We sat down and spent around like an hour talking about plants and stuff that he was worried about and I noticed that as a business owner, he's not very patient.

I am patient. He doesn't like talking to customers when they ask him about the plant.

People ask a lot of questions. People have a lot of questions like what kind of plant is this? Can this grow in this temperature? Can it grow in indoors? Can it grow outdoors? What kind of nutrition should we give? What kind of fertilizer should we give in? And they have a lot of questions in general.

I always make sure to sit down and give them a brief talk about how to maintain the particular plant they are interested in.

And this is probably one of the things why a lot of customers prefer buying plants from me than a few other people.

This business owner told me that he gets frustrated. He's like, you're buying a plant that's less than 50 rupees and you want me to explain everything to you and waste my time?

I was like, oh god, god save this man and god save his business. People will still buy from him but they will not like him.

I hope my customers like me. I hope my customers find it useful when I give them all these tips and tricks on how to grow amazing plants.
