Yesterday was unproductive. I didn't do much because there was nothing much to do. I sat at the nursery, spent my time, and waited for the day to be over. And by the end of the day, I rushed home because I was tired and, you know, needed some rest.
I love rainy season because I love rain. It rains and everything gets so quiet and calm. And the constant rain makes me very, very calm and peaceful. Whenever it rains, I make it a point to get drenched.
I take out my bike. I don't wear any raincoats or protective clothing. I just go out. I just go out and ride my bike in the rain and it feels so peaceful. I know there's a quote by Charlie Chaplin that he cries in the rain because no one can see his tears. But I don't love rain because of that.
I love rain because it makes me feel peaceful and happy. When the droplets hit my head, my face, my arms, my body, I feel very good. This season, I haven't been able to spend much time in rain because I'm taking care of my health. Honestly, last year, I had a fever and I got sick for about 15 days because of my habit of not wearing protective clothing.
And since I love plants, and I own a business that sells plants, I love rain. Plants just love rain, and they grow so green and tall. Their growth gets faster and faster during rainy season. And as a business owner, it's the best thing to happen because when customers arrive, they look at the plant, they look at the color of the leaves, and they are impressed.
They're like, wow, those are some really healthy plants. So they end up buying plants. It makes their decision-making process easier. During summer, plants are not that green. They start yellowing on the edges. The color is not as bright green as it should be. And people get confused, and they end up thinking that the plants are dying or drying or are not maintained properly.
A lot of nursery business owners usually add a lot of chemicals, like DAP and NPK or urea, to get their plants to grow faster and get greener. I don't like spending money on chemicals. I let nature take care of my plants.
I just give them water, I give them enough sunlight, I give them a proper environment, and then I hope and wait that the plants get greener, grow faster and healthier, and that's it. I like simple things. Growing plants should be simple. It shouldn't be as complicated as the youtubers makes it seem.
Let me tell you what YouTubers do. They make videos about life. They take topics such as how to grow your plants faster, how to make compost, how to grow fruits faster, quicker, healthier, bigger. And in those videos, they go on to talk about how to grow them, how to get the fruit to be healthier and bigger.
And they ask their audience to give the plants a lot of chemicals, such as NPK and DAP and urea. Not many suggest urea, but I have seen a few. Is it wrong to give chemical fertilizers to plants? No, it's not wrong, but why should we give them chemical fertilizers when the plants can grow on their own? Right?
Like, for example, my soil is black. And black soil has a lot of nitrogen. For my region, we don't need to put a lot of nitrogen into the soil because it's already present in the soil. What do we need then? We need other stuff that my soil lacks.
Maybe we need NPK, but with lesser nitrogen. We need potassium and phosphorus. We need other minerals that plants require. So what do I suggest? I suggest giving these plants some vermicompost. I suggest that we give them a lot of mulch, leaf mulch, not the modern day mulch scam that's going on in the country.
So what's the mulch scam I'm talking about? Well, I should make a video or a post about it somewhere. I'll do that sometime later. But right now, let me explain what is the mulch scam that's going on in the world.
For me, mulch is leaves. Dry leaves, green young leaves, fruit droppings, bark, wood, branches, anything, anything that breaks away, falls from that plant and goes into the soil. Mixes there and then becomes a protective layer for the soil and saves the soil from soil erosion.
Gives the plant much needed water, moisture, some carbon, some nutrients. This is what mulch is. What are farmers using as mulch these days? They're using plastic covers. Plastic covers with thin microscopic holes in them. And they're using it as mulch and calling it mulch.
I know it saves the farmer some money because the mulching paper or the mulching plastic, it prevents weeds and useless plants from growing and saves some water. But that's not natural. I prefer natural things. I prefer natural mulch that helps the plant to grow better.
I have done some experiments of my own at my own house where I used mulch, 90-80% mulch, some vermicompost and some soil and planted some plants and they had such amazing growth. They had such strong roots that I couldn't tell you.
I should have taken videos or photos but back then I wasn't interested in making content. I had planted some plants in a pot. The roots grew thicker. The roots bound themselves. They're circulating three times, four times around the pot and then growing faster and healthier.
Had such beautiful dark green leaves and the size of the leaf was bigger than I have ever expected back to be. I had thought that I would never see such big and healthy leaves without adding some form of chemical fertilizer but I was wrong.
Anyways, that's all for today. I'll come back tomorrow, write more, share more thoughts about my business, about my health, about my passions, and of course about my plans. Until then, see you tomorrow. Good night. Adios, amigos.
