A beautiful afternoon in Buchan Park : Actifit Report Card: July 3 2026

We are now on the cusp of another heatwave here in Europe and the UK. It is beginning to warm up day by day now. This afternoon was just right however, and I made the most of it by taking a cycle ride into Buchan Park.

Firstly, entering the park via a permissive path which connects with a long bridalway going out into the Holmbush forest. Eventually emerging at the lake which was looking very calm.

The totem is another of my frequent stopping points for refreshment. There is plenty of tree cover here, in fact nearly all of my route was under the canopy of trees. Except for one place!

The meadows were so peaceful that I just stopped and listened to the silence for a bit. A very calming experience.

The sort of moments you don't want to end. I could have stayed there much longer in the warm soft afternoon sunshine. But it was time to go! 😔

Later and on the farside of the park, I came across an old weathered tree trunk, completely detached from its roots and left on the trackside.

From the side that I approached it resembled a squirrel or some other small animal. The sight was so vivid silhouetted by the bright sunshine that I had to investigate.

From the opposite side another animal sprung into view...
This time a bird!

Two animals for the price of one log! 🤣
