We all pray to live long and we also pray for our parents to live long so that they can enjoy the fruit of their labour but most people are not mentally or emotionally prepared to see their parents age and by most people, I mean yours truly.
Most of us canāt bear to look at our aging parents without feeling sorry for them and most of us canāt come to terms with the fact that our parents are aging every day and one day we will have to bid them goodbye.
After two years of being apart from my father and siblings, I finally saw my family again as we all had a little reunion where everyone came back home and it was crystal clear that my father was growing old. He wasnāt the only one aging as my Aunties, Uncles, neighbors, and every elderly person I knew was growing old and the signs were visible.
The change in size, appearance, diet, age spots and so many other things that came with aging were evident. This is new to me and also too much to take in.
It was difficult to accept that my once active and vibrant father was slowly becoming weak, his diet ever-changing to suit his age and so many other changes that I do not understand.
It was difficult to look at my Aunt who used to be fine before but she now takes different drugs for different purposes
and I asked myself if this is what being old looks like. Is this how one moves from being completely independent and in control to being dependent on their children gradually?
On my way to the supermarket this evening I kept singing The Older I Get by Alan Jackson and it felt like the lyrics of the song was giving me some sort of hope and encouragement about growing old and I couldnāt help but share this song with you all.
The Older I Get was produced by Alan Jackson on October 20, 2017. The country songwriter didnāt whine about how old he was neither did he enumerate all the good things he missed out on when he was young rather he cherishes all the lessons learnt all through his journey as a human being and is ready for his next phase of life.
The more thankful I feel
For the life I've had and all the life I'm living still
This song makes aging look beautiful as it preaches the good aspects of aging and the wisdom that comes with it. Alan Jackson made old age look less scary and more fulfilling. In the songwriters words he is just getting to his best āyearsā yet and this to me is a plot twist, it's the voice of one who is appreciative of the growth process and has no iota of regret whatsoever.
This song has inspired and comforted me as well. While I still cannot totally accept the fact that my dad is getting older and older by the day I am happy he is still alive to witness a whole lot of things and I am happy that he is content as he ages, as some others age and battle with series of health issues, but that isn't the case for my dad, for this I'm grateful.
If youāre looking for something soothing to listen to I recommend Alanās The Older I Get any day, any time and you sure are not going to regret it.

We canāt do anything about the aging of our parents. We can only hope and pray they live longer to enjoy the fruits of their labour

You are totally right Abenad, thanks for stopping by.
Ageing is a natural process that everyone has to go through, it feel surreal sometimes, most especially with your loved ones, as you always knew them when they were much younger. We can only pray they age in good health.
Always a #dreemerforlife
Honestly thatās my biggest prayer point.
Thank you my !Lady
You're welcome sis.
Everyone is aging, that is the how nature has made it. Each year we celebrate our birthdays, adds to our old age. The changes accompanying old age is such that no one can control, we all have to experience it, that's if God grants us the grace.
I know, but sometimes itās hard for me to accept but regardless we can only hope for the best.
Yep we all age and one day you will too.
Yes Uncle T, one day I willš

The changes that come with old age is inevitable and I can understand your emotions seeing that your Dad and aunt are already aging..lol
Even you too, one day, you will get old and your eyes will begin to shrink, hahaha š...the signs will be evident but that's life for u.lol
Lovely music so suitable for this post

Lol Ah mama must you use me as a case study?šš
Aging is a uncontrollable factor. Indeed, it affects our appearance, health and everything. Our wish for living long with our parents can't be sometimes heard by God. We should accept reality and do what we can for our parents in their lives. I love the songs you have shared.
#dreemerforlife
I totally agree with you, we just have to do our best.
Thanks for stopping by dear friend
We cannot stop time. I transitioned from depression over aging to embracing the moments as they pass. It has been the road most enjoyable, as I adapt while thriving in what my abilities are now, to avert dwelling on what might have been.
Wow! this is wonderful Bobby, thanks for sharing this here, it means a lotš
Sometime if i remember the memory that this life is all about changes, makes me sad when i sees my dad and mum become old and advance, is true that every one will age, a memory of my childhood remind me how young my mum is, but i feel like life will be eternity where no one will age, this is memory i have taught always as you said friend
I can totally relate my friend and I know the pain of watching your parents age.
exactly friend
What a thoughtful and heartwarming story. I'm a senior citizen, and I appreciate your words. My children feel the same way. They are urging us to relocate and move with them, but we want to live independently as long as we can. It has a feeling of giving up control over your life, I believe.
Thanks for sharing. A lovely read. Take care and have a good start to your weekend.

Thanks for your kind words my !Lady, I just have to find a way to totally accept that growing old is a good thing regardless of the form it happensš
That would be the best way to handle it. My husband and I was finally accepting that one day soon we will have to leave our home and go live with one of our children. It's a fact of life if we can't live on our own.
Take care.
Don't, my respected and lovely friend, feel sorry for you parents... I mean, is the circle of life, honey... We all are gonna get old if we are lucky enough to really get there...
Keep up the good work. š
