The bullying boss

Greetings!

This life is full of different people and this I got to know in the past few weeks when my boss at work retired from active service after he had taught in the classroom for the past 35years.

When this man first came to our school, I mean, when he was first posted to our school, we thought he was a tough man, although he was tough as he would not tolerate nonsense from anyone.

I could remember him calling to his office sometimes ago and warning me saying,

“Mr Sam, you've to be warned, I don't like how you've been handling your work. At times, you don't mark your students notes and all sorts.”

When I heard this, I replied him and said,

“Sir, that's not true, I always mark their notebooks almost on a daily basis, it's only those that would not come to class regularly that would tell you that I didn't mark their notebooks sir.”

However, before I finished talking, this man interrupted me and asked me to leave his office for replying to him the way I did, but I was wondering within myself on how I would have responded to his allegations when I was not found wanting.

So, not quite long after I had left his office, I went to the staff room and at the staff room, my colleagues who overheard our discussion told me that he had called them too and that he queried them for replying to him. I was surprised to have heard them saying that and before I knew it, he had summoned me again and on getting to his office, he gave me the query letter and asked me to answer the query which I did.

This man's tenure as the principal of the school was not easy for us members of staff at all, even if you do your duties by going to class and marking the register and the notebooks of the students, he would still find a loophole to nail you down.

However, there's a day when the government pays them grants to use on some dilapidated structures in the school. When the grants have not been paid, this man was busy lamenting up and down complaining to everyone around him that the grants have not been paid by the government and that because of that, he would not be able to carry out repairs on the structure and also conduct the examination and this is because most of them used the grants to conduct examination.

So, when the grants were paid, this man didn't let anyone, most of whom he had complained to know that he had received the money, maybe because he didn't want to give anything out of the grant to them.

However, instead of the man to use the grants majorly on the rehabilitation of the dilapidated structure, the man diverted the money into his own personal purse and just few weeks ago, when he was about to get retired, the auditor that came to audit his tenure as the school principal find out that the money that he was supposed to use for the use of the school had been diverted to his own person purse and that was how he was asked to make a refund of the money, but this man had no money with him as he had spent all the money given to him by the government.

But thank God to one of us who later helped him out just because of his connection with those in authority. It's Mr. Ayeni, whom he had once queried that helped him to negotiate with those that are in charge of the disbursement of the fund that he, the principal, would be paying back the money in installments.

If not for that, the man would have been in the prison by now as he had flaunt the law which guided the disbursement and the usage of the money which stipulated that the money should be used in accordance to what it's earmarked for and not used for personal projects.

So, had it been that Mr. Ayeni would want to retaliate what this man had done to him, he would have just kept quiet and allowed the retiring principal to go to jail, but because he would not use evil to pay evil, he helped him out.

Now, helping the man out has really humbled him and the last time he came visiting, he was humble and thanked everyone for helping out of his predicament. Now, the current principal is moving towards the same path and I don't know how to correct him and make him go the right path.
