I found a unique friend when I wasn't looking for one. It was during my NYSC in Uyo, that I met Tomi. Our first meeting and we had a huge fight. It's funny because I can't remember what caused the fight but am sure it must be something silly, we are like that we fight over silly things. Right away, I told myself there was no way I was ever going to be friends with her, but surprisingly we became friends very quickly. Amazing how we say one thing and do the opposite, I got to know she was a nice person.
First impressions in most cases give a wrong impression about someone. A lot of things might be going on with people on that first day that makes them seems like a bad person. However, you discover how sweet they are after shedding off that first day impression.
After two months of our stay in Uyo, I got sick. My roommate travelled to Lagos for a week and I was all alone in the apartment, I couldn't do anything. I called Tomi that I was sick and she rushed to my place. She was kind of scared when she saw me, and quickly took me to the hospital. I had to run some tests but I was currently broke, she paid for the test and went to the pharmacy to get me the prescribed drugs.
When we got back to my apartment, she told me she would stay and keep me company. I was glad for that I couldn't imagine staying all alone and being sick.
The next day she called her boss and told him that her friend was sick and she was the one taking care of her so she wouldn't be able to make it to work. Her boss told her she would substitute it with her off days and she agreed.
She stayed with me for a week, always making sure I took my drugs and my meals. She would crack sone silly jokes and we would laughed. Honestly, I was pampered like a little princess throughout her stay with me. I was glad my roommate was not around at that time, because am positive I would not have gotten such good treatment from her. I know the drugs worked but without Tomi's adequate care, my recovery rate won't be that speedy. I am extremely grateful to her, she was a light to me during my dark times.
We find unique friends in unexpected people. Sometimes, I wonder how I would have coped during my sickness if Tomi was not there, she really was a rare gem.

Good friends are like gold and should be hold on too. Thanks you for your lovely comment ma'am and your support
The pleasure is mine 😘
I was caught by your story after reading Uyo as I spent 10 years in the city which was rather less busier by far than Lagos.
Having a true friend when you did need one is truly a pot of gold and I must say you are damn lucky you found yourselves because I'm sure you were all sweet and kind to her.
Amazing experience that's now a cherished memory and story that you can share.
Where's Tade as Tomi took over the scene.
Initially I was skeptical about Uyo but I had lots of fun there and it was a nice place although somethings are so expensive there. Uyo is far less busier than Lagos, Lagos is an ever busy city.
.
Thank you for your lovely comment and also for calling my attention to the name issue, her name is both Tomi and Tade. Am use to calling her either of the two names and unconsciously brought that to my post. I have made the necessary adjustment, thanks.
Uyo is a nice place and it's nice knowing you had loads of fun...
Thanks for sharing.
I agree with you. Many reasons may make a first impression about someone wrong. Thank God that she turned out to be a helper. That kind of friendship is worth sustaining. Hope you are still in communication with her?
